I’m coming back to Slovenia in September 2025! I could not be more excited. I’ll be staying in eastern Slovenia before I head north on an Austrian roadtrip. I’m hoping you guys can tell me what I should do in the area! I don’t know too much about the region other than the time I spent in Ptuj. Thanks!

The old town in Maribor is interesting to see. Then there's the Pohorje plateau just south of Maribor with vast forests, great sights and options for sports activities. The Kocevje forest natural reserve (more to the south east than east of the country) features one of the oldest untouched forests in europe (only some parts are open for visitors; the rest is for researchers only). Logarska valley is an amazing place for an easy trek; it is a picturesque alpine valley with a waterfall at the far end (if you're in a rush and want only to see the waterfall, you can drive, but there's a fee). You may want to look into the Mura river (both for the nature and for the old crafts you can still see in certain areas, like pottery). The Goricko hills in the very northeast of the country are a pleasant place. There are so called tourist farms (turisticna kmetija), where you can have a meal made from the local produce, or stay the night. There are also several hot springs spa resorts in the eastern part of the country, just in case you feel like taking a break and pamper yourself. This may not sound like it belongs in Slovenia, but there's a tropical botanical park (near Dobrovnik), where you can see a myriad of orchids and other tropical plants. Let me know if you're looking for something specific (an interest of yours, or an experience you'd like to have), and I'll see if I can help you out.

@@Ana_N-mlp These are all absolutely wonderful suggestions! Thank you for taking the time to write this. Of course, you hit on the natural beauty of the region and that's something I am definitely interested in! As for other interests, I'd happily welcome suggestions for restaurants and vineyards (preferably local favorites -- not just tourist "must see.") Is there anything about this region that I should know about? I've recently learned about Slovenia's beekeeping heritage. Are there any examples of this in the eastern areas?

a lot of thermal spas in that area, old working water mills, perhaps expano virtual museum(VR through time and place in Prekmurje), lakes, balloon flight, vineyards.

Probably the first anglo-american video about slovenija that is not just quickly jumping from seaside ..Ljubljana..and Bled.. but actually represented other cities and villages with culinary stops, a bit of hiking and amazing cinematic portraits of nature. Oh and yes, thank you for researching and correct pronunciation of the places you visited. Sit down, A+. Welcome back anytime 🙋♂️

Thank you for such a detailed review of your trip to Slovenia! I've always wanted to go here and I'm so glad I chanced upon your video (because it's so difficult to find good reviews as it's such an underrated country - which makes it all the more lovely) , as much as I want to visit the places that you've been on my solo trip, i'm bummed that I will be missing out on many because I can't drive. @@akfasso I agree with Martin above... Bohinj lake is definitely worth to return (you can take the cable car from there to Vogel mountain 2000m high), also recommend Kočevje reserve with its ancient forests and bears :) Not very touristic even in season, so you'd avoid the crowd. And if you like caves, Škocjan is wilder and more stunning than Postojna (personal opinion). "Tolminske korite" is also a nice place to visit. Actually, I live in Slovenia and explore for 20 years and still have the feeling that I saw NOTHING 😂 I'm sorry you had such a rainy weather. I am happy to hear you still enjoyed your staying. Love from Slovenia, Goriška Brda (also a nice place to visit, better before or after the summer, summers are hot here). PS: Baby in the backpack and a pregnant lady on Slemenova Špica? Just a normal Slovenian family 😂😂

Thank you SO much for these suggestions! I’ve added them to my list for the future. You are lucky to live in Slovenia. It is such a beautiful country. I laughed out loud with your comment about the Slovenian family. 😂 Looks like I need to work on my cardio.
@monikadrnovscek8282Ай бұрын
@@akfasso Actually it is no luck, I moved here from Hungary BECAUSE OF the nature. I am madly in love with mountains and forests. Everyone said I was an idiot leaving my life and pretty good career behind. But it was worth it. Cardio, well 😆 But even in worse condition you can make the trip longer if you take your time. For the most stunning places you need to climb A LOT. And it is better to have company in the high mountains, if anything happens. But it is not impossible to make it. My daughter at her age of 4 made the 1300m elevation to Kriški Podi from Zadnjica (to Pogačnikov dom mountain hut). It took us a day (7 hours), but she did it on her own little feet. Here is a blog with some pics and a video at the end, to get an idea: vnaravo.si/kriski-podi/ If you like ferrata, Mojstrovka is a nice short tour to visit (from Vršič Pass, north side up, south side down). There are plenty of ferratas I just don't want to overwhelm you and either not sure how much you can take. My intension is not to kill you 😆 We need you to make a bunch of other beautiful videos. I really love your attitude discovering new places. The best video about Slovenia I've ever seen made by a foreigner.

I don’t love to share cost, because these types of things always change, but I will say that the hut is meant to be split among up to 6 people. 🙃 So, yes…. I splurged for just myself, but I thought the price was pretty reasonable if I had more friends to join. ;)

@akfasso yes if you want to see the beautiful lakes and Mountains (seven lakes in triglav national park) you should make this a one day trip from lake bohinj then go to Stare Fužine and just follow the red sings all the way up by the first lake is a cotage so you can eat and drink something and then go in a different direction and you can see waterfall Slavica and come back to bohinj lake and you make a nice circle around the whole lake in one day😊
