My Dad had a brain tumor in 2006. After the craniotomy, he had lots of cyberknife radiation. He had MRI's every 3 months for a long time. There was change each time in the images. He was told the same thing as you...and it turned out to be scar tissue and changes that were NOT TUMOR related!! It is now 2018 and he gets an MRI every 6 months. We met lots of people who had brain tumors during this time. Many of those people went through the same thing with scarring and changes that resulted from surgery and radiation. I still can look at these images on my computer. I remember thinking that the change in the images scared me....but it was only benign changes. I hope this helps you feel a tiny bit better. Praying for you all the time Courtney😊

I've seen a few comments on this video that are pretty ignorant towards the doctor. People calling him cold and a jerk and not being clear enough?! First of all, Courtney only added a very small clip of her appointment, so we barely heard much of what he had to say. Also, he's a doctor, he's talking facts. He is going to say things in a matter of fact way because there's no better way than that. He can't be emotional about it, it wouldn't be professional. He'd have a nervous breakdown if he got emotionally involved in all his patients. Saying it could be tumour activity, is all he's able to say, because without a biopsy, no one knows what the change is from. Opinions are irrelevant in these situations, this is serious stuff. Instead of being offended by what you hear, think about being in that situation, on either side. It's a very straightforward situation, it's reality - Hope you're okay, Courtney & Jan 💕💕💕

Rachel B •Farmiga Fan• I agree with most of what you say except the emotional part. In all cases and when you can it’s best not to get emotional but showing emotion is human and wouldn’t make him unprofessional. Many health care workers cry when stuff happens it’s natural. But yes ideal to try to be objective.

Sharp Life I think the doctors are more likely to show emotion/compassion when they are delivering "bad" news - like if they have to tell you that something is inoperable, and there is nothing more they can do. I think the doctor's demeanor was perfectly reasonable.

Oh, sweet girl. I understand the uncertainty and stress that comes with everything cancer. You are in my prayers. A few weeks ago I was surprised at my gyn appointment to learn I had a solid appearing mass on my ovary. I’ve had breast cancer and am at high risk for colon cancer, so this wasn’t surprising, just unexpected. My oncologist wanted immediate evaluation. But I convinced him to wait for my follow up ultrasound. And yesterday that solid appearing mass was half it’s original size and appears more benign now. I wasn’t too worried. But I haven’t been able to make certain decisions until I knew for sure what was going on. 7 years of this cancer crap has taught me a lot. And now I can move ahead with another major surgery to once again attempt to fix what cancer treatment took away. And yet I’ve been left with a full and happy heart which doesn’t sweat the little stuff and sees the possibilities all around me. You amaze me! And I’m so inspired by how open you’ve been through all of this. Your dad would be so proud of you. I know your mom is.

I think that you should get a second opinion. Three months seems like a long time, especially when they've suspected change the last two times. My husband goes to MD Anderson in Houston, but there's other great centers too, for a second opinion. There are advanced MRIs that can show better what's going on.

Power of suggestion can be an amazing as well as horrible. As someone who works in the medical field I have seen just the suggestion make healthy patients sick and sick patients healthier. Keep doing what will make you happy and healthy. No one can say just stop thinking about it, but enjoy the little things in life and if you ever feel anxious distraction is key.

I know that feeling of going to dr apts and hearing results etc...the look on your faces going through the motions was really heart tugging....but Im so proud of your ability to keep positive thoughts and seize the day, even when doing the hard things....its the nectar that is sweetest when its valued and savored. I think the dr gave the assessment he had to which seems to be possible changes due to radiation but cant rule out possible tumor changes which can still be from radiations and sadly no one knows whats inside during treatments....theres a lot of changes and reasons for them...sometimes it just cant be determined what is healing etc and what still has to heal. Radiation does do a lot and its amazing how long it takes for the deep healing to resolve. But for them to leave the chance of tumor activity...your probably always going to hear those words until a lot farther down the road when things will stay fairly done and nothing changes...I would say until you are not taking chemo meds any longer and then updated months down the line, you probably will face the uncertain scans. I wish they could give you more info and delve deeper...but its still so very new. Your doing great and youve made such great improvements...quite spectacular. So try to focus on that and take this three months to enjoy and try to not worry about next round unless you have a lot of concerning issues that you want more clarification on....but if your improving while also going through those down times with chemo but come back better or stable then just putter on and keep making those lovely food videos...summer of chub!!!! lol

Courtney I can relate bc my sister had a brain tumor when she was 10. It was a very difficult road and still is as she was left with permanent damage (they had to remove the front right side of her brain along with the tumor. She is 32 now and is living her life. I know everything will be just fine :) you are so strong and you have an amazing mom. Enjoy your summer!

Cheryl Smith your an idiot. First of all what happened to my sister and to Courtney are very different. My sister had the entire front of her brain removed and that is what caused permanent damage, and I said eventhough it has been a difficult road she is now living her life. Courtney seems like she is doing great considering what she has been through. My sister is a fighter and Courtney is a fighter along with everyone else struggling with health problems. But just bc I can relate it doesn't mean her story is the same as my sisters or will have the same ending. Clearly Courtney is very intelligent and is doing amazing. Stop starting shit when u have NO clue what you are talking about. I was trying to tell her my family's story so she knows she is not alone. Some people love starting shit for no reason. Unbelievable

Hang in their girl! Temodar sucks, I know first hand. I was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma in 2004. Obv they are not the same type of tumor seeing how yours are astrocyte cells and mine are oligodendrocyte cells but they are very similar. I’ve been through 1 craniotomy, 8 rounds of temodar, 2 radiation treatments and am now on my 5th cycle of PCV chemo. It all sucks but I’ve lived for a long time after diagnosis and plan on living a lot longer. I have had similar appointments as you just had. Your neuro-oncologist sounds very logical. If he had come back to you and said that the changes were definitely one way or the other without either a biopsy report or more data from watching MRIs over many many months even years than I’d be worried. The frustrating thing is that our types of brain tumors need to be watched and monitored and data needs to be collected so that 14 years down the road (like in my case) you can look back on your history to get a more informed prognosis. Just know that your brain tumor does not define you. You will have your bad days and your good days but I truly believe that you will have many more good days, months and even years. From one brain tumor girl to another, I’m pulling for you and am sending you love prayers and all the good mojo I can find! ❤️

My daughter who is 9 also has a brain tumor and it's quite a lifestyle. All there is to do is to be positive because life is the most beautiful gift we have. Courtney, I admire your bravery in sharing this journey with the world. I have thought about it mutiple times as we are 2 years into this. However, my daughter is still small and I feel I couldn't deal with the negativity that comes from the internet, especially from those that know nothing of how life is on this side of the yard. I also want to say how much I admire your mom for her bravery and motherly warmth. I see her as such an example and try to be as patient and loving on the good days and mostly on the not so good days. Blessings to your family and may you continue to heal. ♡♡♡

It's radiation changes for sure. Doctors will never say that there are no changes if they aren't 100% sure. It's super aggravating but it's better than the alternative for the few people that might be told they are fine when they aren't (that happened to me because of an administrative peron's mistake and it's horrifying). Enjoy your summer, see the non-MRI you in your vlogs!! :D

I would definitely get a second opinion. I have a friend that went to MD Anderson in TX for her treatments. Two times now they see changes but just want to watch it. I can understand that they don't want to do unnecessary treatments, but honestly that would concern me somewhat too. Sometimes we have to be our own advocates and doctors. I am praying for you!!! I just found your channel yesterday or maybe the day before. I have been binge watching your videos ever since so I could catch up on your story. You are such a beautiful soul! You have such physical beauty, and so down to earth! Beautiful inside out! A genuine person. Which is so rare these days. Your Mom is simply fabulous! As well as your aunt. And the rest of your family. This is such a blessing. And so winderful to see! I have just watched your past videos over the last day or so. I can see why you are so distrustful toward the doctors. They have lied, or mislead, or misinformed you several times throughout this whole ordeal. I am not sure why this is, but it seems to be a common thing when someone is first diagnosed. Just taking a guess here, but sometimes I think it is because they know how much an attitude and stress effects your health. So in the beginning, they hide scary facts to get the patient more stable. But after the patient is over the major hurdle, like you are now, they seem to stop "sugar coating" things, and actually swing in the opposite direction. They begin yo tell the "worse case scenario. I believe this is for psychological reasons as well as legal reasons. Let me explain. An mri image is helpful. But the scar tissue and tumor growth would look ALMOST identical on the image. If they come out and say "definitely scar tissue. No tumor growth" and it turned out to be tumor growth, you could sue the crap out of them and win. So legally they have to say its a "possibility that it is tumor activity". To cover themselves legally. On top of that, they need the patient to always be aware that they are vulnerable and at risk for the cancer to return. Remember how you stated that you lost hair in the back. And if you had known it was going to happen, you would have been prepared. And it wouldnt have been so bad? This is basically the same thing. People have all sorts of "coping skills". Things that they do to help get through stress. One huge things people do is denial. It is so easy to lie to yourself. Especially when dealing with something as scary as cancer. So at this point in your recovery, its important that the doctors do not give you the opportunity to lie to yourself. Truth is, you are at risk for it to return. And you would be able to handle it much better if you know that ahead of time. Now, all that being said, if the doctor truly believed it to be tumor activity, you would be having your treatment changed. Because if there really was tumor growth, that would mean the treatment you are on isnt working. But thats not what happened!!! He did not address your treatment!!! He did not suggest changing anything! This is FABULOUS!!!!! This is a mjor indicator that you are right on track to being healthy again! (Let me stress here, that sometimes they lower the treatment to something less agressive. If that happens, that is a good sign as well. ) Keep in mind, your body might fill in that hole. I would ask the doctors about that. The body tends to not leave empty spaces where there shouldnt be one. Just a thought. A little about myself. I am a grandma. I have lost many family members to cancer. I am currently very scared for myself, because i have been sick as of late. But ill worry bout that later. I have a special needs grandaon I am helping raise because my daughter in law was left in a semiconscious vegetatuve state from a car accident. So I do not have any formal education in medical field. Just too much life experience. I would like to tell you a few more things that may help with dealing with side effects. If you have an email address. Too much for a youtube post. If not I understand. One thing I highly recommend is "restore for life" product made by Dr. Zach Bush. It will help with your dehydration and immune system. I started my grandson on it and he began talking! And began to have less stomach pain. Please show this post to your Mom. So you can discuss it. The thoughts and opinions are kinda complicated and abstract. And besides, it always helps to talk things through. I can see how disappointed and cautious you are at the end of the video. And just had to write. May God bless and keep you safe. Give you strength and peace. In Yeshua name (Oh two more points. He wants you to still wait 3 months to come back. If they really thought it tumor activity, you would come back sooner!)

You are not alone. I can so relate to what you are feeling. I am at the same point in my treatment for metastatic breast cancer that spread to my brain. I had my craniotomy in September 2016, chemo and radiation. Your MRI scans look so much like mine it's crazy. I am still on chemo but only the targeted ones so my hair is growing back. In November 2017 my MRI showed some "activity" that they say is either "tumour" activity or "necrosis (scar tissue)" from radiation. I had an MRI in January and another one in April and now will be another one in August like you. I hate the not being sure what it is and they just want to monitor it. I worry there is a ticking timebomb in my head.

I hope your next MRI gives you some of the answers you need. I can only imagine how frustrating it can be to get vague results after doing everything you should be to get healthy again. I just heard of someone that's heading to a holistic Dr. in Mexico to get a second opinion on their stage 4 cancer and apparently the place has been curing cancer for over 30 years with natural alternatives. It's really unfortunately those remedies arent well known here in the US, but that's what we get with our "sickcare". Keep your chin up! You are an amazing woman and an inspiration to so many people!!!

I really appreciate how you let us in this horrific part of your life.. My father was found unresponsive on his bathroom floor 2 weeks ago and they wasn't sure if he had a seizure or a stroke so they did a CT scan on his brain and found 2 tumors..1 big one in the front of his head and a smaller one in the back...The bigger one had so much edema which is what caused the seizure and had to be removed the next day.. Well on the follow up MRI the next morning they found a 3rd and also checked elsewhere and unfortunately his started in his lungs and spread to his liver and brain.. He went in for his biopsy results and it's stage 4 lung cancer...Their having him do radiation therapy for the brain cancer and chemo for the rest of it but my point to all of this is I greatly appreciate you putting your experience on here for people to see what they can expect..granted obviously everyone's different and his is more complicated since it was caught so late but your videos really help and give me hope!!!!

I've been praying for you Courtney, and I will continue to do so. I can understand why you would feel that this wasn't "good" news because (of course!) it would be best to be given the all clear, but again, it's not bad news, and you're doing everything you can at the moment, and your doctors are staying on top of the situation in monitoring things. Try not to let the MRI results rob you of your joy because they were less clear than you wanted them to be in terms of status and interpretation. It's still a win since you have to consider the potential for scarring. Live your life, enjoy your summer, and seize every opportunity for joy & happiness! There are so many blessings in your life in the "right now" moments of life. Don't let them get lost in the shadows of uncertainty about an undefined situation that is being managed in the best way possible right now. You can't do any more than you are, and the only thing worry can do is make you feel anxious and steal your joy in the moment. It's not being in denial to choose joy; you've been informed, and you're aware. Now live, have fun, be happy! I will keep praying for you to heal and remain cancer-free. 💕🙏💕

I'm so sorry that they saw what might be tumor activity. The good thing is that it must be so minor that it's hard to know for sure. So you're doing the right thing and your body is fighting the stinking tumor. You're so much stronger now than you were 9 months ago. You've got this, Courtney. Keep fighting, taking your chemo, and spreading love to yourself and others. 👸🏼💪

Courtney I think positive. I'm a nurse. I give infusions for bone diseases. Not cancer. But some of my patients get very down. He didn't change your treatment plan. So...I'm thinking your sweet mom is right. This was a good appt. So try as hard as it is, to stay possitive. You have a whole lot of us out her praying for you. And with that precious mom and Lola, well what a team girl! I have a bone disease. Three weeks ago this coming wed. I backwards, down my hardwood steps on the hardwood floor in the foyer. I was sweeping them. Broke my back three places. I was in hospital 10 days home 1 little more than one week. I see neurosurgeons on wed the 30th, to find out if need surgery. Bone fragments pressing on spinal cord sack. They said in hospital, sometimes it better to just leave them alone, to risky to remove. Sooo wed I have MRI find out how it doing or if they need to do surgery. Nothing compared to what you have been through. I've had 114 surgeries in past 20yrs. With this bone disease. Really don't want to have another. But I always told myself it could be worse. Today we had 99° with a heat index of 102°, I love spring and summer, hate winter, so I never complain about heat. But this brace armpits to hips, is sooo hot! But thats still ok. Because I can still walk!!! Always thinking about you Courtney, always in prayers. Hugs and love to you, your mom, and Lola

Court, same thing they told and tell me almost every time. They have to say could be because people sue so easily. Every time I get worked up but then when biopsy comes around (because I freak and beg for one lol) it's been clear. Hopefully it stays that way. Look at it this way, baby girl. We both know if it was a huge change you would be in bio right now, more scans, etc. Staying the same course is unfortunately what makes sense. Although frustrating and I totally feel you... They have to legally. I'm staying positive for you because I say radio inflammation. Chin up and enjoy your summer! Love you!! You're okay, sweet girl!

You are so brave and positive! Please look into using a RIFE machine, as well as the Hoxsey clinic, Biomagetic Therapy and also starving the cancer with the Keto diet - I really think these all could help a lot with your healing and the great thing is they can all be done together as they aren't in any way invasive. Wishing you all the very best and improved health onwards!

I love that little constellation of freckles on your foot. It's adorable! Also, you had some suspected scarring last time, right? Maybe what they saw is a continuation of that because he said it could be a result of the radiation. I'm sure it's absolutely nothing to worry about. You've been doing so well and every week gets better!
