I love that "if you haven't brought your army to the event.." That happens. My partner in a team event once brought the wrong army because his army boxes all look the same. Still went off as a fun time since they let him play.

I love the inclusion of the water/snacks and id even add "get a good nights sleep" to that list. Used to make a habbit of skipping paying an extra night at the hotel and drive/fly red eye get to the event as it opens. Huge mistake sometimes it went fine others I could tell it was affecting my ability to play and be a nice person whether I felt tired or not. Pay a little extra, get your 8+hrs sleep, and at the end of the day take a deep breath and remember #1 goal should be to have a good time :) Catcha at lvo coach!

Pro painted Studios makes amazing tokens for every army to help and smooth the game. He has token trays and dice trays and boxes too. Edit: first aid for all the paper cuts and just all hygiene products I can fit in my bag. I don't want to run and buy a toothbrush or tampons in a foreign city.

I think a big one is army lists to hand out to my opponents (for them to keep) and a cheat sheet for my opponent of what my army does. like what each artefact and spell does. I played a Gitz opponent at Cancon and he gave me a hand painted glass Vial. He had one for each of his opponents! Attitudes towards tournaments are good to discuss too. Only 1 person can win a 200 player tournament and going into it with the right attitude is super important.

For ability tokens, I absolutely ADORE the old Warmachine/Hordes token sets. They are designed to be used with a dry-erase pen, you write down the buff or effect name and boom, you have an instant custom token. You then just wipe it off with your finger and re-use it for something else. You can have just one set for any and all armies with any and all abilities or effects.

Something I’d love to see to a higher degree in aos and love your focus on them is even more measuring tools in every length. I have every full inch up to 12” and you wouldn’t believe how convenient and clear it is. Super useful with a 5” to see how many of a unit with 2” melee range will be able to fight after pile in and so on.

Interesting Hugo. I can honesty say I haven't found many uses for a 12" measuring tool, and I'd just resort to my measuring tape. 5" I find helpful for movement

@@AoSCoach aye, those ranges are pretty rare but the longer ones are often useful for stuff you mentioned your second measuring tape for like marking deployment zones and so on. The more sticks the better!

for glues to bring to events, you can get super glue activator that instantly (5 to 10 seconds max) sets super glue bonds. its great for emergency repairs in the middle of the tournament hall when you don't want to be holding anything in place for ten minutes!

I would have thought that at a tournament (I've never been) they would have pre-marked the objectives for you on the table! I don't think I would have thought to bring a set and I have several. As for 9" markers, I went to the supermarket with a tape measure and bought 9" plastic straws. Super cheap and now I have more deep strike denial sticks than I will ever need.

That's a lot of 9" plastic straws. No, the Tournament Organiser doesn't set the objectives down because it's just a hassle not worth doing when you're also data entering the scores, getting people to their tables, handling questions, etc.

@@AoSCoach I have some awesome objective markers from Pro Painted Studios. They have a little magnet in the center and also come with small colored disks in 2 colors so you can mark who has the objective. I find them very useful. I also use a little bit of masking tape, doubled over, to stick the objective markers onto the mat. The magnetized ones sometimes move if you move a model with magnets over them and this stops that. (I've also been know to bump them with my arm or models, because I'm kind of clutzy.

Some really good ideas there coach, pain killers and deodorant are a good shout. I have a small plastic container that I keep all my other dice, objective markers an tokens in . Have seen some people keeping many things like dice, and gauges in a bum bag (or fanny pack in the us), thought that was a good idea. though I like to keep all my dice in plain view so my opponent can see I'm using the same ones for all rolls and not switching for certain rolls. Have had that before where a player (and all the other players against the same guy noticed) had suspiciously good dice rolls with certain coloured dice.

I ALWAYS take paracetamol/ibuprofen with me to events it's invaluable! Standing for 2 days inevitably hunched over a game table things start to hurt by that game 5/6! Would also add 2 things to the list that I keep in my go-bag for events. A spare T-Shirt and a pack of baby wipes! Sometimes especially events in the summer, even here in the UK, things can get a bit, how shall we say, unpleasant especially around that Game 3 time on a Saturday that no amount of deodorant is going to help. Popping off to the loo to have a quick freshen up is not only respectful to those around you and your opponent but can help re-energise for that final game.

100%. I put down a gym towel for a similar reason to the baby wipes… but I’ve often got them with me too. Spare shirt is a good call, I don’t bring that with me… but then again I’m 99% wearing a singlet tank top

I didn't participate in a tournament yet, but in games with friends we use mini dry erase boards. We use them if we don't have the appropriate tokens for things like: Aura of Glory (CoS): +1 atk, whw 12". I wonder if they are helpful in the tournament setting if you need to label something on the fly. (Note: I got mine from the very small board game "A fake artist goes to New York", but I guess things like that are easy to find.)

I've only got 16mm Bad Moon dice... I can see where the confusion in my language might appear I have both. Its rare you can get custom 12mms

@@AoSCoach thanks for the reply. Yes, I have searched for 12mm speciality dice (you can then fit 40 in your hands!) but only found 16mm ones. I managed to pick up a load of the bloodbowl dice sets cheap, which is how I built up a collection of 20 of them. Dice of War, based in Australia, are a good company I’ve used before to get custom dice sets made for historical gaming. It would be nice if he could make AoS themed sets too but he obviously can’t step on any IP!
