My AI Bot Trolls Scammers With Fake Gift Cards

I've been working on a bot (now with help) that talks to scammers automatically using some AI. Recently I sent it on a "mission" to waste their time with gift cards and I loved the results.

@@subtleaggro Yes, but the response time is a bit too slow. Since a lot of the analyzis is on third pary, you need a very fast internet connection. If you could get some of it on your own server it would be better. Also, you need some flags for the sound that must not be repeated.

You can absolutely do that, because they use a limited dictionary of swear words, both hindi and english. And keep it on the local server, because the response to them need to be fast. I made a chat bot and I had a dictionary of around 10 swear words. I did not look it up, but I am sure you can find statistics of the 10 most used swear words in hinidi and english

Yeah, it's very common for people to have a hard time understanding these accents; the AI should play that up. Then it has an excuse when its responses don't make sense, and if they actually do speak more clearly, all the better. (and maybe just to confuse them, throw in occasional nonsense: "sorry can you speak up? I can't see very well")

Cleainng the input and finding key words is one way. So you standardize the words by removing plurals for example, and you find key words by looking for anything after the. Words like "it" will then be a reference word, and you can get pretty advanced and look back in the conversation until you find what it refers to. You should never analyze the whole text. That is a huge waste of time unless you are really really advanced. Base it on standardization/normalization and key words. It can be kept very simple then.

You could have an entirely pre-recorded sequence which lasts 5-10 minutes, where the AI says something like "Sorry, let me just go and find the gift cards, I'll just be a minute..." Then you can hear him searching for ages saying the odd comment in the background like "I know I left them here somewhere..." and "Where did I put them? Oh, I'm getting so forgetful in my old age..." Every minute or so, he briefly goes back to the phone to apologise to the scammer and promise he won't be long.

This is eventually the only way to fight it,; Force them to be making $0 per day, all calls are fake, all lines are constantly ringing. Then and only then will they stop. The Indian Government will do nothing, the US government will do nothing, it's going to take Americans, Indians, and anyone else who wants to help hehe, banding together to just enrage them so much they stop this business of scamming / "refund" / gift card nonsense entirely. I make sure to waste as much time as possible whenever I get a scam call. Just keep them on the phone for as long as possible, they NEVER call back once you have wasted their time.

The whole "i wanna talk to the manager" inquiry is creating the problems, replacing it with some more universal statements would do the trick. Or you can make it react on the words "I'm + manager" and trigger a response with 50% between "Get me the manager", and "Oh, you are the manager". This would solve ai overhearing words by a chance sometimes. On the other hand I think something similar to Barnum effect is worth pursuing here. If something you say is vague enough, the people will convince themselves. This has so much potential for improvement, it's ridiculous...

I agree in principle, but the problem is that short sounds like that are more likely to be repeated, and it can be hard to make enough variety of sounds while still keeping them able to smoothly transition without sounding bad.

@@MsHojat he could simply add another audio track separately that is basically Foley or what they use for soundscape or background noises in movies. maybe white noise on a loop that's about 10 mins long looping or a few different ones and itl make the AI sound distracted too.. open car door noises, bags shuffling or go crazy at a mall one day and record the background noises and itl sound hella real

You can do it by making an estimation of how many words the scammer is using and if he is using more than say 25, then play those sounds. The idea here is, that there should be a bit of structure, not too random, but also, that when he has said a lot of things and you distract him he will get more angry.

To be fair, you really don't need a lot of math to be a programmer. I always liked math and was pretty good at it (until I went to University, then I didn't understand a thing anymore...), but I could count the amount of times I really needed anything "advanced math" related in my work life on one hand. You need to have an understanding of how computers work, what it means that code needs to be compiled and translated into "machine language", and you need to understand why certain instructions take longer than others (important for making your programs run more smoothly). And yes, understanding how multi-threading works is a huge plus as well, but that are some advanced techniques, you can find your way around without ever having to multi-thread. ;) But I never understood the "math is important to be a software developer" thing. Maybe it was important back when every byte of RAM was precious. But nowadays RAM is so cheap and there's plenty of it, and programing languages have advanced so much, they take care of memory management for you and do a damn good job at it, too.

@@sirarandorwhat I would do is have it start reading the same exact code, but change one or two letters / numbers each time it repeats, ones that look or sound similar to the prior one he said (example: 8 and B or 8 and A or 1 and i) so the scammers think they’re the ones not hearing correctly or the old guy can’t see straight). Then just get stuck in the loop changing them each time, blaming the scammer for not being able to listen / being illiterate. This would piss them off big time but also keep them on the hook since they’re getting a code from a “sucker.”

When you've improved the AI to a very convincing level you should get viewers (or viewers' parents/grandparents) to record all the voice lines (preferably slightly different wording) so they can't recognize the AI by your voice.

There is actually already a site that does exactly this. You get a scam call and forward the call to the AI and hang up. Then it ties them up. I dont want to post it here and hijack but search for it.

Idea: if it can’t consistently recognize the audio, occasionally and max 3 times in the call, apologize that you’re very hard of hearing and ask them to speak loud, slow and clearly (with 5 or so recordings of this response)
