'Nullstellensatz' means like 'root/zeropoint theorem'. The roots/zeros of a function for example are called 'Nullstellen' in German, which literally translates to 'zeropoints'.

Thanks for sharing! Abstract Algebra was one of my favorite undergraduate courses. Our class used "Contemporary Abstract Alegra" by Gallian.

Still a hard book...in my experience. I used Abstract Algebra by Thomas W. Judson...

I always felt at home in studying abstract algebra. I will check out the author. Always looking for new books 📕

That normal subgroup of S4 question at 13:44 ish occurs in the solution of the quartic polynomial, interesting side note. MIght be interesting to dig down into what those group isomorphisms mean as well
@josh34578 Жыл бұрын
A4 is isomorphic to the group of rotations of a regular tetrahedron. From there you can see there's 3 elements of order 2, and 8 elements of order 3. There's only one subgroup of order 4 so it must be normal.

In my graduate studies my prof said to use Hungerford Algebra and after searching it I found this book Abstract Algebra by Hungerford. I go through the index, and wondered that rings are introduced before groups and discussing with my friends that what is the advantages of that,if any. How can one define a ring before group? But I don't read the book, probably if I do so, I could have understood... But I think it's a better reference book for undergraduates along side Gallian's Contemporary Abstract Algebra...😊

The only difference among algebra textbooks is cat or no cat. If you really like algebra the only no cat book on algebra you gonna need is D&F.

Idk why but abstract algebra felt weird to me, compared to other topics like topology which had some direct understanding or was used in some way, abstract algebra never seemed to have a certain “objective” all it seems like is the study of binary relations. It just feels like so distinct as if its pure logic like set theory. Compared to some other topics i could say abstract algebra is weird but then pure maths has its own strange beauty.

Is that the sage on the cover of Hungerford’s third edition book? Very near me!

Hey, havent you thought of using an ipad for taking your notes? or chanigng to a digital media? just a question i had. Nice video!
@Alastair_Adana Жыл бұрын
I hate writing notes on ipad, I write on paper and take a photo with my phone and scan the text if I want to put it digitally
@dilation1057 Жыл бұрын
Plus the point is that most of the time u don’t need the notes u, just use the notes for understanding the topic more often.

I think it would be cheaper and probably more efficient but I am old school. I like holding my notes in my hands and looking at my work.

I dont think its that natural to start with rings before groups because you need the normal subgroups to basically do anything with rings.
