We are from Indiana and love the Canadian accent ❤ I really hear it in words like "bag" - it almost sounds like "beg" instead of the big, open "ah" sound we use and also words like "process" - we use an "aw" sound instead of a long o. We have great homeschool discussions about regional accents while watching 😊

I find her accent subtle and fascinating-my daughter studied linguistics in college and it is so interesting- basil and pasta stand out for me and the (cadence) rhythm of her speech is distinctive. It reminds me of maybe a french creole pattern. Love it

I'm so excited to have ordered your cookbook. My first experience with canning on my own was when my husband brought home 2 eight foot pickup trucks full of fresh-picked beets to pickle. My very bright white kitchen had a deep beet-colored hue to it until we painted. Cooking beets to peel them for pickling is quite a messy task. I literally gifted pickled beets for years after this but they were delicious. You cutting up your beets today and seeing the red beet color on your countertop brought back some great memories. I haven't pickled beets since then. The beet excursion was 36 years ago. Thank you for your channel.

LOL my great grandma had a pan that big. When she wasn't cooking in it my cousin Carmen and I (both now in our late 40's) filled it with water and "swimmed" in it. We were the only ones that had that and we thought we were "The Best". All the otherkids were jealous 😂❤ Lord I wish I still had Great Grandma, Carmen (both have passed) and that pot for my own grand babies 😢

You’re going to LOVE freeze dried soup. It’s our favorite thing to FD and reconstitute. Especially chili. You left your knife stuck in the cabbage leaves! Just so you know when you go to find it. 😆 I love your Canadian accent! You say pro-cess and we say pra-cess. Soup looks very good. I’m loving your cookbook. Lemon bars, soon. 🍋 Our range hood at our rental house, didn’t vent to the outside but rather had an internal filter. It was very affordable at our Home Depot. Like less than $200. No outside hookups necessary and worked like a charm. My freeze dryer is running non-stop these days! I bought the lids, so helpful and you can freeze dry in the lids also. A tip: freeze dry some tomatoes- whiz them up in your blender. Then you’ll never need to buy tomato paste! It works like a charm.

Our house was built in 1922. We are only the 4th owner. We purchased it from my mother in law after my father in law passed. So, its my wifes childhood home. Our kitchen is pretty much original like yours. The cabinets are original. One counter area is original and only 3 ft. Long. The original sink actually fell in one day ( before we bought it) so my in laws had a new double sink put in with new cabinets under and a foot of counter on each side. They did a good job of matching old with new. The sinks are deep, but unfortunately they are white so i have to constantly clean them with bar keepers friend. When we moved in we flipped it, like you did and moved the stove and fridge in oposite places. And it was so much more workable, the back splashes dont match. Lol. It was truly a craftsman house. But, it has so many beautiful details that new homes dont have. I really don't want to change anything major. We did do a bathroom remodel several years ago because we still had the old cast iron bathtub and sink that had separate hot and cold water faucets. And no shower. But, I love our house! I'm also lucky because i have a canning kitchen in my basement. Another feature of an older home. We just bought a gently used electric stove for it. (Not glass top.) And added a derp mud sink. Sorry this is so long. But, i just appreciate the beauty of an older home, with all its features , that may seem difficult to some people but, to me add so much to the feel. And I love knowing that the original owner built it with his own hands. ❤

To get stubborn stains out of white items, put item in large non-reactive saucepan or pot. Add OxyClean and bring to a boil. Use a plate or submersible lid to keep items under the solution. It will foam up so makes sure pan has room to contain it. After bring to a boil, let simmer for awhile and then let sit for 24-48 hours. I like to do this to with my dishcloths and stained dish towels. Just recently I was able to get a huge onion skin stain that fell onto my favorite t shirt while pouring out the onion stock. Onion skins are used as a natural dye so you can imagine how stubborn that stain was! Another method is to launder item, then while wet, place item on lawn in sunshine. There is something about grass and uv light that removes stains and musty orders, too! It was how my grandmother got blood stains out of her nurses’ white uniforms.

An idea: you could have Dan put in an exhaust fan with hood above your stove and vent it right outside. It will save you lots of work as you won’t have to clean so much. You can just change the filters and also clean the fan which will catch most of the grease. I love mine and am so glad we put one in. They make some very pretty ones and also ones that have lights.

I like that large funnel so you could dump the whole freeze dried tray into it, that is a time and mess saver. I am always stunned to see how much gunk has accumulated on the upper part of my cabinets and walls from the frying and cooking process. That makes me not want to do any frying inside the house ever again. That soup looks good; I want to try to make that.

For the curtains; get a curtain cleaner (washing soap) most of the comon ones are really good in removing stains, and they starch the curtains, so they will take less dirt up. Or use baking powder to soak them in and then wash. But i just wanted to say how i love your kitchen and your thinking of "why replace the cupboards if they are still holding up", i also kinda love the blue. 😊

I think that personally this world we live in, just throw out and not save as much as we can, is a huge environmetal tragedy. And disrespectful to history. Things used to last. Nothing modern is made to. And that is not helping our earth. And so appreciatted that there are still people like us that like retro and apprecitte it. I'm from Ukraine where Borscht is the keystone of our cuisine and actually it is nearly every day on the table in every house. I must say your recipу is quite authentic. Except that we add cabbage at the very end and simmer it with the rest veggies for up to 10 min. so it stays a bit firm and crunchy. We also sometimes add beans to Borscht. But as we say here in Ukraine - as many housewives as there are recipes for borscht))

Why not put a hob extractor fan above the cooker and vent straight outside, it will stop sticky walls etc 👍

Don't be embarrased about dirty logs and curtains in the kitchen. If you cook alot, as I do, it is just INEVITABLE!! ;)

I remember you making pumpkin soup in the pre remodel kitchen and was impressed how you made it work!
