Advice from a trans man painter: other ways to make your makeup masculine are a darker shadow around the jaw, forehead contour, extending nose contour to the under eye to make a more sunken look, and thickening your eyebrows definitely helps. You can also use some mascara to pick out the fuzz on your face- I’ve seen people use it above the lip, between the eyebrows, and around the jaw with a very cool effect. It doesn’t look like facial hair, just subtly masculinizes.
@merchantarthurn
@merchantarthurn Жыл бұрын
Definitely takes a lot of practice to get the mascara on without hitting the face ahah - to add to your tip re: shadow under the jaw, it's also key to diffuse that out into the neck (ideally whilst still underneath the jaw) or you end up with a dirty looking smudge if your head's at the wrong angle. Personally I've found darkening the area around the angle of the mandible to make that area look like it "stands out" and is squarer does much more than too much shadow under the jaw. One thing I tried once which I've not tried again cos my skin hates too much foundation is using "colour correction" primers in reverse - i.e. using it where you don't need to correct colour & wanna make it slightly blue where there'd be a five o clock shadow. It's a bit of a delicate balance but it's a neat, subtle look. Could possibly do the same with eyebags.
@L_Aster
@L_Aster Жыл бұрын
@@merchantarthurn absolutely, I’ve never gotten the mascara trick to work on myself lol Good idea with the color correctors, depending on the look you’re going for that could be a nice subtle trick! I personally love makeup that accentuates eyebags. It’s so funny how much work masc artists will do to look unkempt

Don't have DID but do have autism and the comment on how this warm weather makes you guys blendy and switchy resonated with me a lot. My autistic tendencies have been way stronger and as a result I have a lot less energy thanks to the heatwave. Interesting to see how things like that can affect different neurodivergent disorders in similar ways! People (me included) sometimes forget just how much of an effect physical stimuli like the weather can have. It's the worst but also kinda cool from a research perspective

one of my most distinctive memories as a kid was when I was in class, I think grade 2? there was one teacher who was really sweet to all the kids but was different to all the other teachers (not that we cared, we loved her). At the time I didn't realise it but this memory is from when she was teaching, only she seemed to zone out and her 'other self' said hello, complimented me on my 'fountain hair' (curly hair + short fringe + headband = curls over the headband) and we were all really happy to say hi as her genuine happiness made us all happy ... now I know that she likely had DID, and when you mentioned people with DID in the workforce I wanted to share this memory :D

I am so amazed how skilled you all are. I "just" have ADHD and depression, but never managed to use any kind of product for a blush and also own just one concealer which I use about once a year. And using more than 2-3 colours on my eyes and I'll look like a clown. I will do makeup like 5 times a year and it gets me overwhelmedeverytime and takes literally hours. You are such pros at this and I bow to your skills to still be able to do makeup while being blendy/switchy.

I've read this fascinating *french comic* called "Those vanishing days (roughly translated)", where a young man suddenly *discovers his alter* as he starts only living every second day of his life (for some reason they only switch during night so that's one inaccuracy). At first all goes well with some attempts at cooperation between the two; but then the main character alter starts fronting less and less often, days then weeks then months pass each time he goes to bed and his own life literally slips away from him. Meanwhile the other alter finishes his studies and becomes a successful corporate businessman. As disappearing months turn to years, the main character discovers that his other alter has been actively trying to suppress him and prevent him from fronting with hypnosis therapy. Obviously because all successful businessmen are inherently evil (duh). The end is actually quite bittersweet. So the comic may have one or two inaccuracies about DID but overall it truly is a poignant masterpiece, totally worth it! For anyone who is interested here's the original french title: "Ces jours qui disparaissent".

i love seeing how different alters do the body’s makeup. like i’m much better at eyeliner and have better knowledge of color theory than Gray. i also like much brighter colors for our experience on whether DID makes it difficult or impossible to work: we are college and have worked retail and are currently a pharmacy technician. DID is usually fairly helpful for us in the work/school environment since multiple alters having work/school knowledge means that we can split up the workload. (of course this is dependent on us being able to share info which we usually can do) -silver

I've been recently coming to terms with realizing that I'm part of a system, as well as slowly beginning to learn how to live with this. your videos really help me and they have for a long time! I remember watching this channel back in middle school and going: "woah, that's an interesting condition. but I could never have that though, absolutely not." which now looking back was most likely the denial lmao. even the parts in these videos where it isnt completely DID facts/info centered still helps so much. it's so comforting to see a system live out what would be considered "normal" moments to those without DID, and it helps me be less fearful of me and my system's future. thank you all for deciding to use your platform to help and beat the stigma surrounding DID. it means so much to me (and probably every single one of your subscribers) that you still want to assist others even though you all have already gone through so much🫶❤️ - onyx the host

Regarding that part about work... I was actually in theater professionally for 7 years, something I never thought I would ever be able to do at all because of my memory issues being a symptom of having DID. I had already been diagnosed in high school before I started working and when I was filling out the paperwork for my contract there was a question that basically asked "Do you have any physical or mental health issues we should know about that could potentially prevent you from working?" I intentionally didn't inform them of my diagnosis being afraid I'd lose the job before it even started. Figured I'd prove I could do the job first and then later tell them about my mental health issues. It wasn't really much of an issue and rarely came up. I don't really switch that much, especially at work because I was doing something I loved I rarely ever got triggered to switch. That said I really wanted to do more as an actor on stage and I wasn't getting a lot of respect as an actor. I was also still having issues at home cause I couldn't afford my own place and the theater I worked for happened to be connected to a hotel. The hotel part at the time was abandoned, no one was using it, but my key doesn't even work to that part of the building. I remember one day seeing the joining door was open some how when that door was never open and I went to check to see if someone had broken in. I don't remember anything after that for a while until I was suddenly faced with a park ranger telling me I was trespassing there. I nearly lost my job over that when I don't even remember what happened. Still no idea how that door originally got opened in the first place. Considering it was abandoned and I needed a place to live and was working in the joining theater it would have been great if I could have just moved into the hotel. For all I know one of my alters did break in and I just don't remember doing it cause as far as I know I was the only person in the building at the time, I never saw anyone else. But I remember finding the door already open and not knowing who opened it cause no one ever went in there.

I enjoyed this video so much, thank you for making it! I'm so glad you guys seem to be doing a little better and I hope you're staying cool in the heatwave1 The video itself is super well done--I'm impressed by your editing and the choice of subtle calming music was great. The room is also coming together really nice, I love the flowery wall you guys bought the other month from that garden shop, it's SO pretty :) This video was the perfect balance between entertainment, education and beauty. It was also super nostalgic and comforting in a way because I remember Chloe and Nadia doing makeup videos like this a few years ago. Thank you guys again, so much love and support from me for teaching us and helping us

Thanks for doing videos! I don’t have DID (pretty sure), but your videos did make me realize I have a form of dissociation (dissociative amnesia). Wild how I went years not knowing I was missing so much of my memory!

I really enjoyed this make up tutorial. I'm not super into make up but, everyone who was fronting in this video made it fun. I feel like I actually learned new things and how to apply make up better and some new brands of make up to try as well. Thank you all for sharing!

I personally love using the Anastasia Beverley Hills brown brow gel when I want fluffier/fuller brows on when I'm feeling more masculine.

Hi Mara! Good to see you there for a second! I would love to see you here again if you and the system feel comfortable enough, but if you don't want to, I respect your boundary. All the ❤

Here's what I think I have discovered watching your videos. As an older viewer, I grew up in the 'multiple personality disorder' days, and the thing I had in my head was and is probably nonsense. Dissociative Identity Disorder makes more sense, though; I have different aspects of my own personality. Sometimes I'm very serious, and sometimes silly and sometimes childlike and sometimes very sexual, etc. However, I still imagine all these 'personalities' to be 'me'. With DiD, I suspect (and what I have learned from your videos) is that your system is probably the same thing, except with more rigid barriers between the different aspects of your/my personality. So, rather than 'multiple' personalities, it's more like you have several rigidly defined aspects of a single personality (as we would typically think about it). I guess my point is that yeah - our experiences are very different and I don't want to diminish that, but, on the other hand, we're not really all that different.
