that sounds mic'd up. massive improvement from the processing. i'm looking at the stomp for myself. how good would you say is the DI you get from it if you use the stomp as an interface?

The Stomp works great as an interface. The only annoying bit is balancing the playback tracks against the DI input. In global settings you can attenuate playback with "USB Trim 1/2." A/D conversion in the last 10 years has gotten so good that there really isn't a huge difference anymore in something like the Stomp vs. a high end interface. When I record with my Stomp, I always use it as the interface even though I have an Antelope Orion 32+. Better to just have one A/D.

Great video! I've been toying with my live mandolin plugged in tone for a few years now with it constantly changing. I'm somewhat happy with the ToneDexter which is sort of an impulse response type thing but the idea of having endless amounts of pedals to add to the sound and never worrying about patch cables, etc. is very intriguing.

I've been futtzing around with the neck pickup on my jazzmaster plus a pair of 3Sigma Taylor acoustic IRs to try and cop some fake acoustic sounds. You can get it to where it's almost right. I found the HX reel to reel tape simulator was super useful in the last block.

Have you used the actual acoustic simulator block? Back before that was released with 3.10 I was using acoustic IRs and some bold EQ adjustments. The new acoustic simulator block has been working much better for me. If you're committed to sticking with IRs, maybe give the free bundle on my website a shot. Great video. I am using a Gibson F5 impulse response from 3 Sigma Audio, through the IK Tonex pedal with the amp turned off. With no amp the signal level is low so I use a boost pedal after the Tonex. My mandolin has an under saddle picked and I’m happy with the sound. I am primarily a guitar player and this setup lets me play mandolin through my regular pedalboard.

I had wondered how my passive instrument pickups would work with the Tonex. They should add a flat preamp with parametric EQ for acoustic instruments.

@@patrickaaron4253 Nope! HX Edit is free and is used to control your Helix from a computer. There is a plugin for your DAW if you're into recording, which is called Helix Native. Sometimes there's some confusion about that. It's completely separate and basically just the Helix made to run on a computer. If you end up getting any of the Helix models, you'll get a code to drop the price for Helix Native down from $400 to $100.
