Hello Ms. Callaway, I just wanted to comment real quick, thank you for sharing your story. I am a 1st year MD student in the USA and we were learning about gender abnormalities, and when I read this in a textbook it just seems like information. But when I actually get the chance to listen to someone with AIS, it becomes more real. And the courage you had to make this video and put it on the internet is amazing. I just want to say, that I think you are a beautiful woman, regardless of what genetics say. This story you placed here will encourage many others who may be suffering from this syndrome, and will encourage people to live their life, regardless of any situation. I think there's a lot of wild misunderstanding in the comments. People with androgen insensitivity syndrome (the clinical type) have XY chromosomes. People with mild AIS have male genitalia, people with partial AIS have half-male half-female genitalia and people with complete AIS have female genitalia. This woman has complete AIS, so she has female genitalia. Her embryonic development into a male did not occur because she did not have working androgen receptors, so she is a female.
@JoeDirtisawsome5 жыл бұрын
What's with this he/she/it crap?. She's a she.
@jameskurian69145 жыл бұрын
@eviltreemonster Androgens are not required to form the testes. The SRY gene of the Y chromosome will form the testes in the absence of androgen or androgen sensitivity. With complete androgen insensitivity, she would have male internal genitalia, but external male genitalia require androgens (or response to androgens). So she would have testes in her body, while having female external genitalia. There is also no female internal genitalia, like ovaries, uterus, etc.
@roxana54905 жыл бұрын
@eviltreemonster The situation here is that the receptors that would normally turn into male characteristics "don't receive the signal", so the default is female characteristics. Those with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome do not have a uterus, Fallopian tubes, or ovaries. They usually have a shorter, closed vagina (there is no cervix / uterus pathway). They usually present with female external genitalia because the male androgens turn genitalia to penis and scrotum, and without that it remains the default female characteristics. It's my understanding that the reason why they have female features is because the androgens get turned into estrogens by the body.

Being a doctor it’s great co relationship of topic. One thing more Testicular feminizing syndrome looking girls are beautiful because lot of androgen produced by testis is converted into Estrogen in fat cell. So lot of estrogen brings complete feminization while having 46XY genotype. Generally they are diagnosed at the age 12-14 year when there’s absence of menarche. Clinician only can diagnose initially when they examine their pelvis & there’s classically absence of pubic hair (because androgen cause formation of pubic hairs but androgens are insensitive). Later confirmed by ultrasound & karyotype. Clinical features- Undescended testis(removed at time of puberty), Uterus, Fallopian tube absent, shallow vagina, Valva present, penis absent, feminizing breast. Note- You are strong & we all love you. Keep going in this hard battle👍🌺

She is genetically male, however it would clearly be irrational for me to say that a man being involved with her would constitute a gay relationship. She's naturally developed as a phenotypically female person. It makes me think about the whole transgender thing, and where the line is. In my head, being transgender, and being in a relationship as a man/trans woman couple, is still a gay relationship, no matter how accepting I am of it. But maybe the line is a bit more subtle than that.

Women's and mens bodies both produce estrogen and testosterone, but testosterone is more said to be directly related to sex drive in men. What is said to be more directly related to sex drive in women is actually the spike of testosterone and estrogen during the peak time of fertility in the menstrual cycle, which is when most are more likely to initiate sex but does not mean the CAIS individual would be sexually dysfunctional.

Everyone starts out as female. Testosterone and its metabolites will then masculinice a individual with the y chromosome. But in some cases This process never takes place in which case a individual with a y chromosome remains female. Except that this female has the genetics of a male and no womb or ovaries. I find this a very interesting condition and it shows how much of a difference a hormone can make in human development. This process also becomes visible when female bodybuilders take steroids especially if those steroids are highly androgenic. Even as adults some of those female bodybuilders undergo this hormonal transformation where they wind up looking more like men than women.

@nilesblvd No, in that show that woman had Swyer Syndrome. It's similar (result is also phenotypical female), but there is major difference - they don't produce any sex hormones, and that's why she looked quite masculine - she started taking estrogen in her 20's IRC. No hormones during puberty means that bones grow bigger. It has nothing to do with genes - look at Kim Petras for example - she's MTF transsexual and started taking estrogen in her 12.

I have PAIS and I thank you for sharing your information with the public. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 30 years old and I spent many years trying to understand what was happening to my body. I feel complete now but have so much time to make up for my lost childhood and the teasing and taunting I suffered as a result of my condition. I still don't have the brave heart to make a video of myself simply because I don't want to go through what I went through in my childhood.

Being trans, myself, I can't relate to much of her story here. That is to say, there is indeed a huge distinction between her and us transgender people. On a different note, she's evidence that sexuality is highly based off of societal influence for majority of kids. Her sex chromosomes clearly don't dictate her sexuality like society is prone to believing.

Also I'm sorry you didn't find out for so long I've always known that I had it... My mom wasn't sure whether or not I would have a period but she knew most everything else about it and told me when i was 3

you are an exceptional person - clearly in more ways than one. thank you for your courageous video - im certain it is very helpful to others with CAIS and other intersex conditions. Id be interested to know how you feel about the way your condition is being framed in, and appropriated for, transgender ideology? Does it bother you that people with healthy bodies and normal chromosomes use AIS and other intersex conditions to justify their self-identity?
@salvolondon7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have noticed that too , so many transexuals basically saying that they are the same this as intersex . And I think this is total bullshits . They are two very much different things .

@imysworld Yah it makes sense. But i think its one of those things that no matter how i think i may understand relating to it, that there is no way that I can fully understand how it feels. I try to imagine myself being a female and having a doctor tell me that i have this condition, but as a guy, i can only come back to the positives of it. Then again, im not a girl, nor do i have AIS, nor have done htt/htr . If i may ask, what psychologically is difficult? Do you question yourself?
