I can not stress enough the importance of finding out whether the school is 2d or 3d focused. At my current school, they said they did a mix of both and I really wanted to focus on 3d. when I joined the school I realized the majority of 3d classes they offer get canceled every semester and about 90% of the coursework was drawing-based. Talk to some students and figure out what their coursework is like before blindly listening to what the school tells you.

ugh just thinking about school just stresses me out. 3:03 "Well is it actually worth it?" "The connections you make cannot be understated" i thought school was about learning, if the connections are whats important then why dont we as a society just replace the whole institution with something cheaper that focuses on connections. i switched from an art major to computer science specifically to avoid this anxiety but it never went away, it's the same over here. 😭

Yea school has definitely changed now that most of the information you're learning is available online. My classes have given me a great foundation/starting point, but a lot of the things I use in my projects now are things I've taught myself from KZbin. That being said, it is still very useful to be taught by people who have worked in the industry so you know what to expect.

Im currently persuing engineering(freshman), but do art (hardsurface, texturing, UV, etc) on the side as a hobby, and as I've been working and learning new stuff I've kind of realised that you don't really need art school. Everything that it teaches in the first two years I've learned by myself over time for the great price of zero dollars, and I've learned Maya using a school license from my community college, switched to blender about a month ago (which is better don't at me), and learned substance painter to boot. If you have a passion for it, art school is absolutely not required to LEARN the art. However, the connections are nearly invaluable and essential to building any art career.
@SoRePeSiАй бұрын
Eyy, same hat! I've started to actually try and learn a thing or two about 2d animation on my free time after starting college. I had an introductory level blender class in high school since I was specializing in game development and also wanted to get more into 3d stuff since then, and now that I have a pc that can actually hold anything with more faces than a cube without getting tachycardia for twenty seconds at a time, I'm actually able to do that. Naturally, I looked into art school a while ago when I was still trying to find anything I might like to do more than engineering, and I found a bunch of people basically saying the same thing about the biggest advantage of it being connections. That and project time management, but that's not something you can only learn in a specialized university. Since I just want to make my own personal projects, not pursue a career in the art department, I ended up ditching the idea and settling for rockets instead. Though my classmate from a different faculty of the same uni said she can choose any class of any of the faculties to take as an extracurricular, and if I have the option to do that in the future, I may look into something related to anatomy or digital sculpting. That would be fun, I think.

feel free to ignore this if this is too intrusive to ask, but what college did you go to? I attend a university for animation, but recently I've been wanting to find a school with a better, more in depth focus on 3D. The courses shown in the video seem really appealing, and I'd love to look into it a bit more! Also, great video! It's really nice to see someone with a passion for 3D digital arts go into their journey, and how they got to where they are now!

Well, well, well, yet another KZbin video purporting to offer insights into the world of art school for animation. But don't be fooled by the flashy thumbnails and catchy titles; this creator is just another cog in the wheel of deception. Let's start with the creator themselves. It's clear they have a vested interest in promoting the idea that art school is the be-all and end-all of animation education. Whether they're getting kickbacks from art institutions or just trying to boost their own ego, their motives are suspect at best. And then there's the content of the video. Instead of providing a balanced exploration of the pros and cons of art school, it's just a one-sided spiel about how wonderful it is. Where are the voices of dissent? Where is the acknowledgment of the staggering debt that many art school graduates face? Nowhere to be found, because that wouldn't fit the creator's agenda. But perhaps the most infuriating part of all is the impact this video will have on its viewers. Young, impressionable artists will watch this garbage and come away with the misguided belief that art school is their only option for success. Little do they know, they're being led down a path of financial ruin by someone who couldn't care less about their well-being. In conclusion, this video is nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing, preying on the dreams of the vulnerable for personal gain. Viewers would be wise to approach it with a healthy dose of skepticism and seek out more objective sources of information before making any decisions about their education and future career.

"It's clear they have a vested interest in promoting the idea that art school is the be-all and end-all of animation education." 5:17 literally the closing line addresses this. Your conspiracies of some grand agenda where they're associated with the art school industry as a whole are just flat out ridiculous. This video, as the title suggests, is about their experience at art school, not whether you should go to one or not. It's plain and simple. If someone's interested in art school this would be very useful/interesting information to have. It's fine to add on additional information in your comment and make points (that are not relevant to their experience) more concise, but you can do that without accusing them of having some 'agenda' that's 'targeting young and impressionable minds' to send them into staggering debt.

This video is great. I went to Full Sail University and wanted to specialize in animation. It was awful. I do not recommend the school. I learned after I grauated that they are more for profit than for students. Maybe this is just because they didnt cater to animation much and because I went into the game art program and not the computer animation one, but they were not great. I guess this is me venting but also I hope it can serve as a warning to others about this school. I should have talked to some of the students beforehand somehow.

In my case, I have quite limited options. Because there is only one public animation school in my area (and it doesn't specify anywhere if it has 2D animation. Because I know it has 3D) On the other hand, learning on your own is not only a longer process that requires more discipline but also limits your job opportunities by not having the contacts that school gives you...
@whaleloop4 ай бұрын
There are also online schools you could consider like animation mentor or anim school. I think these are only for 3D, but they are cheaper than an actual college. Maybe there are 2D ones that you could look into?

@@whaleloop The thing is that the school I want to attend is free if I pass an entrance exam.
