Pokemon is a series with a lot of unanswered questions and big mysteries. Some of these mysteries, even after decades of existing, have never been fully solved, which is why in this video, I am going to be picking up where I left off in a recent video and give you my personal answers to some more of the BIGGEST questions that Pokemon has ever seen, and see if I might be able to provide a legitimate explanation. I hope you enjoy!

My personal headcanon for Cubone is that it's not _actually_ wearing its mother's skull, it's just that it's mother has created a "helmet" for it out of materials found in nature, like dried clay, and ignorant humans in the past saw Cubone and _assumed_ for some reason that they were wearing their mother's skulls, and so it became a popular urban legend similar to, for example, the common but erroneous belief that ostriches will bury their heads in the sand in an attempt to hide from predators.

That's been my headcanon for ages, it's nice seeing someone agree. I think a lot of frustration comes from people taking the Pokedex as gospel when there's been a lot of contradictions in it in the past.

I like this. My own headcanon is a bit darker- the skull of a kangaskhan or charizard is an evolution item for other kangaskhan or charmander. It creates a branched evolution tree with Cubone and Marrowak ‘wearing’ a skull of a long-dead ancestor. Like many pokemon who produce babies, they would need a hold item to revert to pre-cubone.
@resdifer7744
@resdifer7744 Жыл бұрын
my headcanon for kangaskhan would be that when the kangaskhan is still in the egg it would already be pregnant because of some broken hormones(without a father), and when it comes out of the egg, it will give birth to a "defective" kangaskhan (because that small kangaskhan isnt hatched from an egg and doesnt have a gene from a father [lack of genes]), this also solves why the baby doesnt really grows up, and needs excess energy from mega evolution just to function properly. i think this is just kangaskhan trying to slowly evolve to a creature that doesnt need eggs anymore, or maybe they dont need eggs back then and evolved to a creature that needs one while not really taking out their non-egg laying traits.

Maybe it was true for the first few 'Cubone', but once it divergently evolved from baby Kangaskhan into Marowak, the next few cubone began to be born with a skull on top.

It is better than my theory that every Pokémon can only reproduce by live birth and the eggs come from a form of man made cloning. It is probably easy to disprove but it is just odd to me that Pokémon eggs are not really found in the wild. Also kind of explains how wailord and skitty bang without their really being any hybrid pokemon

Your Cubone and Kangaskhan theory made me think of my own based on that. Kangaskhan is a symbiotic species, where two are born from the same egg, one big and one small that lives in its pouch, they are twins, not mother and son, the smaller never grows up. One day, an egg inherited a recessive genetic disease from both parents, that made the bigger twin die in the forming process, leaving only the smaller twin and the malformed body of the bigger, since the smaller doesn't have the bigger one to protect it, it feeds on the remnants of its twin to survive, leaving only the bones, which it then uses to defend itself, thus being born a Cubone. So, since all Cubone have these genes, Cubone can only produce more Cubone and not Kangaskhan. Although that doesn't explain why there are male Cubone and not Kangaskhan, maybe it could be related to these genes.
@VegeTaleNO1
@VegeTaleNO1 Жыл бұрын
That's pretty cool and logic! About the gender problem I kinda have the solution (very forced): think about humans where feminine bodies come from gene couple XX while masculine from XY. Then think about the "X" as made of 4 lines while "Y" made of 3 lines, thus a "X" without a line. You said that in the egg there is a bigger twin: maybe they can be always feminine because they have bigger genes. 🤔

The Cubone hypothesis is really REALLY good, considering that there’s precedent now for Pokémon (other than Eevee) to evolve into different Pokémon under different circumstances. I’m commenting to add to the Pokéball thing though. Your theory is supported by the existence of tailored Pokéballs like the Luxury Ball and the Dive Ball. It’s in-game canon that not all pokéballs are the same.

I think that for Cubone, maybe the very first cubone got its skull from its mother but overtime, the skull itself became part of the pokemon's DNA. We also have to keep in mind that the Pokedex just spouts absolute tall tales a lot of the times. They are meant to be records of a 10 year old kid, not a seasoned researcher.

No, stop that. No. Bad. Bad commenter. These aren't things kids are writing, these are actually what scientists write. Laventon proves this himself, the Pokédex is meant to be taken as gospel, or at least it's meant to be seen as accurate for the time. Don't peddle the notion that kids write these, that's entirely incorrect and disavows so much information about Pokémon lore
@goldmemberpb

@Zoroarkarceus123
@Zoroarkarceus123 Жыл бұрын
@@goldmemberpb no. No they don't. The Pokédex isn't just writen the moment you catch a Pokémon. The information isn't what matters when you're completing the dex. Your goal is to just prove that every Pokémon in the region is actually there. Completing the Pokédex is just a way to observe all the wildlife in the region. Also, Rotom Dex disproves this notion even further, as that's who's responsible for recording everything in the dex anyway. And with how many dex entries are the same, it is literally impossible for a kid to have writen every single dex entry. Also, yes, Laventon's statements are actual fact. You collect data on Pokémon so Laventon can do research on it. Saying that he isn't speaking the truth is just denial and misinformation
@goldmemberpb
@goldmemberpb Жыл бұрын
@@Zoroarkarceus123 Rotom dex also writes insane bits about mega evolution hurting the mons when it is all about the bonds between human and pokemon. You are telling me those are not tall tales and actual facts? Rotom dex is a gen 7 device. So, it really seems likely that it is exaggerating the truth to make z-crystals seem better than megas. Even if all of the descriptions are written by the professors later on. it would all be based on whatever the kid observed. Like say, if Red observed a pidgey just pecking someone's eye out, he would probably note that pidgey are violent. Just using Pokedex as this gospel doesn't seem right. Keep in mind that a lot of Laventon's pokedex entries have way more of his personality in it. His observations don't make for absolute truths unless everyone in the scientific community agrees and can show that what is written is true. Something like a victreebel having acid on its stomach can be proven very true quite easily but a lot of dex entries on more rare pokemon are just heresay or difficulty to prove otherwise. A lot of ghost type mons usually have a more folk tale description to them. Things like drifloon kidnapping children or staring into the back of the shedinja sucking out your souls are not really a full on observation for objective truth. I am not syaing every single description of the pokedex is a lie but a lot of them have quite a bit of exaggeration, if not a tall tale. I am sorry for a single giant text. The comment box is actually not letting me put in a line break for some reason.

I had a pretty similar theory in terms of marrowak/kangaskan. Human sometimes give birth to differently sized twins. Kangaskan have it as a norm like most armadillos to print two to six clones per birth. Snakes do produce twins from time to time (1 per 1 000 hatches, I think), so it is possible inside the egg. Sometimes something goes really wrong, and the larger twin ossifies (it happens in humans and reptiles) and the smaller one armors itself with its bones. And the larger twin grows really fast in case anyone wonders. Yes, it's not a baby, it's a small twin. Yo can't prove otherwise unless you read both dnas. "Babys" also can be actual males of the species, totally unused in the ways of in-game breeding, and incompatible with their carrier.

The baby kangaskhan can also be the twin of the big one. But due to being so small, humans probably see it a the child of the big one. It has a growing deficiency and therefore cannot become a big kangaskhan. So the mother of cubone in the pokedex description is not the mother, but twin sister. The small ones still breed twins, but only the small ones come out alive. From the big ones it is only the skull and one bone that can come out of the egg, when the small ones breed.
@0127sasuke

About kangaskahn, my answer is just that the baby reaches maturity and then both mother and daughter end up laying eggs together. It's a little weird, and really stretches the game logic but there it is For Cubone, I think that the skull is just apart of it's body, like a shell. And then the idea of the skull being it's dead mother's skull would be because of Red or Blue. This going off the idea that the pokedex entries are written by the protagonists (since the entire reason they even get a starter is because they're helping the professors do research, that's literally the point of most of these games). Red DID meet A Cubone who lost it's mother due to team rocket's crimes. This could've been the first Cubone he ever saw. So he ASSUMED the "skull" it had belonged to it's dead mother. Or it could've been Blue, since they both worked on Oak's Pokedex. But the end result would be the same. And then this first entry started a whole rumor that would be spread throughout the different regions, spread further due to the other protags writing about it in THEIR dexes (or making up really dark jokes about it instead, given those entries that say Cubone cries at night missing it's mommy)

The supposed evolution for marowak from the gold/silver beta is NOT kangaskan,its its own separate thing. Anyway my theory as to why cubone whare the skull of there dead "mother" is: its not there mom at all. Every region that cubone inhabits has a location similar to the idea of an elephant graveyard,where old marowak go to die & new mothers take there skulles cubone to get a mask & bone for them to whare for protection. As to why you don't go through this in game when you hatch one from an egg? It a videogame for children. They arnt going to change the entire way the mechanics work like that.

My headcanon for ghost type Pokémon Is that they're not dead, but they're like a "gas" type. They are often made of gas or related to gas in some way. What if they also feed off of gas produced by the rotting of bodies and, therefore, "haunt" graveyards? This would also explain many Ghost types alegedly "feeding off of human souls" according to the pokedex without them being some kind of supernatural creatures, even by Pokémon standards.

In the Pikachu and Pichu short it’s also mentioned that it’s been a year since Ash and Pikachu first met. I do think that Ash was aging very slowly; the original animation style had Ash looking somewhat older by the time of the XY series (it was subtle but there); then Sun and Moon made not only Ash but ALL of the characters look way younger. I know that’s the fault of the animation style that Sun and Moon used (which I think is horrible looking myself but eh) but it’s still jarring to have the characters looking so much younger than they did in the previous series.

Also if you look in the manga _- & some older, canonical game advertisement artwork -_ you can see the tiny Pokémon curled up in their Poké Ball, "resting" (as Ash says to them after each battle, before returning then to a ball.) It's actually really cute! 🙂

From a more practical biological standpoint (for whatever that's worth when it comes to Pokemon), I think the smaller Kangaskhan are simply the males. If the male never develops past the infant stage then it explains why all wild Kangaskhan are female. As for Cubone, the idea that its skull is its mother's is sort of ridiculous and was probably invented because no-one in the early days of Pokemon expected it to last this long and go through this much scrutiny. If you want an answer, Cubone have weak skulls and fashion helmets out of clay, eggshells or, if available, actual bones. Once it evolves its skull naturally hardens, explaining why Marowak's head has a bony plate. In terms of Cubone crying, it's generally a bad idea for any young animals to make a lot of noise that could attract a predator unless the parents are nearby. Perhaps the Cubone "cries" when its mother is out hunting so she can find her way back to it.

That doesn't really make any sense when you really think about it... I mean the Kangaskhan's mother is the one who laid the egg in the first place... so for it to lay an egg that hatched into a Kangaskhan that also has a baby would mean that Kangaskahn would have to lay an egg inside it's egg to have a baby and how did that second egg get fertilized? The same thing with Cubone which would technically mean that Marowack is it's GRANDMOTHER. BTW there's other Pok'emon such as Chancy who also has the same problem cause even the baby version already has a pouch with an egg in it which means these things are just born already menstruating. And it is specifically mentioned that most of their eggs are unfertilized and won't hatch into Pok'emon. This is how it's able to use it's eggs in attacks and also feed them to trainers as their eggs appearently have healing properties. In fact not only are they born menstruating but they're also constantly menstruating though out their entire life and evolution line because at all 3 stages in the evolution line they're never seen without an egg in their pouch. Even if they pull one out another immediately appears in it's place. At one time I had made a pair of fakemon named Khan which was just the baby on it's own which would evolve into Kangas which is just the mother on it's own. I had based the names off Kanga and Roo from Winnie the Poo with Kanga being the mother and Roo being the baby with both their names together being Kangaroo which is also the animal Kangaskahn is based on. I still feel like Kangaskhan should actually be TWO Pok'emon rather than 1 especially since the baby doesn't even look like the mother being a different color which suggests they should be 2 stages of an evolution line rather than a single Pok'emon but the fact that Kangaskhan hatches as a fully adult mother with a baby already and mega evolution just has the baby leave the pouch but they're still treated as one being even when when they're fighting as separate individuals... I kind of think they aren't a mother and baby at all, they actually are a single Pok'emon. Similar to Dugtrio and Magnaton who look like just 3 Diglettes and Magnemites stuck together but actually act as a single unite... or Execute which looks like 6 individual eggs with different faces but are actually all 1 Pok'emon we've just been assuming Kangaskhan is a mother and baby this whole time when really it's all one creature. That's the only way the mega evolution and how they're born really makes sense otherwise the evolution line really should be Khan > Kangas > Kangaskhan and the Mega evolution shouldn't exist because it's really not an evolution.

My theory for Cubone is that it forms a skull-like shell for its head in the egg, due to its actual skull having soft spots, not unlike a human child. As the Cubone gets older, it sheds the shell in favor of larger ones formed by others of its pack, or it'll be given the skull of an ancestor.

I got two theories for ya: 1) Why can only some Pokémon mega-evolve, and other mega-evolution stuff (and some evolution stuff) 2) Why humans can’t go inside Pokéballs? I have a good idea as to why! Pokémon, all Pokémon, have infinity energy. It is what lets them evolve/mega-evolve, harness dynamax energy, use z-moves, and why some Pokémon are able to even travel across dimensions and universes. It is why some Pokémon, despite not having the biological equipment to use certain moves, can use them anyway, such as Gyaradose learning flamethrower. It is also why mega-evolution requires a trainer and can only happen once in a battle: the Pokémon generates a massive burst of infinity energy and requires a human to act as a battery so the Pokémon doesn’t disintegrate itself, with the megastone and keystone acting as conduits. Only some Pokémon can mega evolve because they somehow have the ability to cause this burst of infinity energy. Pokémon like Rayquaza and MewTwo (in a Pokémon movie) doesn’t need a mega stone or trainer because they are powerful enough to contain the energy on their own. I will now bring up two specific Pokémon: gyaradose and kangaskahn. Going off of Hoop’s first theory, in which he explained that kangaskahn is full of infinity energy, it only makes sense that the much smaller kangaskahn has some power to make a burst of infinity energy because it isn’t an adult, allowing it (but not the mother) to mega evolve. Gyaradose is quite a special Pokémon, seeing as it evolved from a useless fish. How does a useless fish evolve into gyaradose? Simple: for twenty levels it sits, taking beatings and slowly gaining more infinity energy. Magikarp is a battery, a massive battery. When it finally has enough infinity energy to evolve, it immediately does so. However, when it does evolve, a massive store of infinity energy is brought with it to make sure it stays such a massive, destructive monster. It can only evolve if it has enough energy to sustain its evolution. That’s why gyaradose is vastly different from magikarp, it isn’t supposed to happen and only exists because of how angry it was, taking the form of a monster that can cause so much destruction OR finally be useful to its beloved trainer. Then comes in the mega. Gyaradose can release a bunch of infinity energy to mega evolve with a trainer, making it into an even more destructive monster (enough to make it a dark type despite it not using any underhanded or cheaty tactics, it’s just that destructive and angry). The mega stones working for those specific Pokémon in general exists because it works like a frequency, only a specific stone works with Houndoom because their infinity energy “frequencies” match. Keystones lack a frequency, and humans lack any infinity energy. Pokémon can only stay mega-evolved for a battle (AKA only a small period of time) because they run too low on infinity energy, which they kinda need to use their magic and survive. In gyaradose’s case, it stops when a large chunk, but not close, to its entire store of infinity energy is used up as it still needs enough to survive. Winning the battle (gaining experience points) will net it more energy. If any Pokémon loses but you still mega evolve it next battle, it just passively gathered infinity energy (which must not be difficult since even plants contain mass amounts of it, the air is likely filled with it. Not to mention Pokémon seem to run on the stuff). Now onto why humans can’t go inside of pokéballs. It’s no secret that Pokémon are turned into data when thrown inside a pokéball, their entire genetic code turned into digital code. How else can they go inside a PC? Porygon’s existence proves this. But, of course, only a Pokémon could survive this unscathed. A human is entirely lacking infinity energy, and usually lack the ability to absorb/contain it within themselves to then harness. Some individuals can actually harness infinity energy (such as humans that have psychic powers, like the ones in X and Y that juggle pokéballs with their powers), but they cannot absorb or create it, simply manipulate the energy around them. A human, lacking infinity energy, simply can’t survive being turned into data, or rather their bodies don’t allow them too. A trainer can touch a pokéball’s button just fine, they can do it as many times as they want (disproving that the second press activates it), but a Pokémon is immediately turned into data if the button so much as grazes their fur/skin/feathers/slime/scales/fluff/etc. The humans that can manipulate infinity energy can’t go inside because they only manipulate it, not actually absorb and harness it, and it’s at a minor level anyway. Theoretically, according to my theory, a large group of psychic trainers may be able to create an infinity energy field around a human to let them be safely turned into data by a Pokéball, but that is extremely impractical, and most likely severely harm (or even kill) the human when they are returned back to their physical self (if they can even turn back without infinity energy). Teleportation is possible, body swapping exists, and even turning into a Pokémon and happened in the Pokémon universe (two of these happening in the VERY FIRST GAMES). In the latter case, the former-human could be caught in a ball. But these examples prove that humans are extremely technologically advanced thanks to infinity energy and Pokémon, and yet none have decided to turn into robots with their human minds intact as data: they simply can’t do it.

For the "What it's like inside a Pokéball" question, we have two important pieces of information. 1. No, Pokémon are not converted to infinity energy, they use this infinity energy to shrink and regrow, and the Pokéball activates this ability instinctively. This is proven in Legends Arceus. 2. Rotom-Dex actually states itself that a Pokéball is very comfy, and how it would love to go back into one if it didn't love being your Pokédex so much

I like to imagine that the Cubone case be an adaptive evolution where in the past, when a mother Kangaskhan died, they son would use her skull as a shell with the purpose of protecting themself and because of this habit, some baby Kangaskhan had to adapt to a new style of life leading them to become a new species, the Cubone evolution line.

Kangaskhan and Cubone are as confusing as they are simply because they were invented before the Breeding mechanics were added in Gen2. It’s neat. Also, it’s been more recently confirmed by old material that never got translated, that all Pokémon can naturally shrink down when exposed to “certain herbs,” which is how Pokeballs were invented.

My theory is that some Pokémon originally came to exist by the given background (Skull of dead mother, child turned into a Pokémon, human soul became a Pokémon) but after the first one, more could exist without appearing the same way. It's similar to something I theorized about Digimon, where a unique circumstance creates a new program that other data can copy. While Pokémon are (mostly) organic beings, even the most mundane of them have mystical connections and mysterious energy

It's pity so much restrictions existed at the time of gen 1 in terms of cartridge and console. I wonder, if Cubone had come out in gen 3, if the process would be a bit like inverted Nincada, where evolving Cubone to Marowak, and then evolving Marowak either yield Kangaskhan, or if too low HP at the time of evolution, would yield Cubone egg and removing the Marowak being evolved to fit the clearly intended lore

@Oceane1803

My theory about the eggs is that since Arceus creates the eggs, as we saw in the Sinjoh Ruins, and that he can put any Pokémon in it, even legendaries, he's the one creating even the normal Pokemon eggs and sends it to the two parent Pokemon. And he just puts a Cubone with a skull on in the Egg and two Kangaskhan in the Eggs (maybe that the mother is a Kanghaskhan that grew the most in the Egg, preventing the other Kangaskhan from growing, and she takes care of it after she's born, and the other Kangaskhan would not be her kid but her twin). Maybe that's where the male Kangaskhan are. An Egg would contain a male and a female Kangaskhan. The female takes the most place, preventing the male one from growing, and the female then takes care of her smaller brother after coming out of the Egg. The fact that Arceus creates all the eggs explains all the weird stuff about Pokemon breeding. Like how a Wailmer and a Skitty can breed, why Metagross can breed with Ditto when it can't even breed with itself or why nobody ever saw a Pokemon lay an Egg. Because there technically is no need for sex (bro Pokemon is so E-Rated that Humans and Pokemon don't even need to have sex in order to have kids) Following that logic, even a human could have an Egg with a Pokemon (I think humans would be in the Human-like and eventually Field Egg groups) since there's no need for sex, and since Humans in Pokemon technically are a species of Pokemon like we in our world technically are an animal species. I even think that the concept of Wigglet could technically make creatures like Fairies and Demons canon in Pokemon, as a convergent species of Humans. Looking like humans physically but being very different from humans anatomically and being their own species of Pokemon too. Probably not canon but it would make sense and it's definitly possible in my headcanon because I think that it's such a cool idea. And also what if the various human ghosts we can see in all of Pokemon are nothing more than an evolution to humans ? I mean there's this saying that says "death is a part of life", and what is a ghost if not a human with Ghost type abilities ? So maybe that humans evolve into a Ghost or Ghost/Normal type if they die. Pokemon does have a lot of death related evolutions after all. And finally, I think that if humans had Mega Evolutions, which they technically could have, they would have two pairs of arms, two pairs of legs and a head with two faces (Mega Evolutions are abominations after all, don't be surprised), based on this greek legend saying that humans used to be like that but that the gods separated them in two and this why humans search for their soulmate. If a Humanite existed, Mega Evolution would basically be a human using the power of a human soul trapped in a stone to become stronger, which could be considered as two humans fusing together (referencing this soulmate thing from the legend). Wow this was longer than I expected. But I think it's such a fascinating subject. Anyway congratulations if you read the whole thing because wow ^^'

In my opinion, Kangaskhan impregnate/clone themselves in the egg which is why they are all female. As for the eggs, we know that Pokémon and their trainers can see in and out of the top of a Pokéball. I agree that there is a simulated environment, but it's like not very expansive. If anything, Pokéballs work just like the JOJO Stand "Mr. President", which is a sort of pocket space with a see-through top that you can communicate and go through. As for Ash's age, I personally think the series works better if he is actually aging slowly with each generation. I think him still being ten is more of a dub issue.

What if we call Khangaskan the "motherly" pokemon, but it's actually an instance of twins, one matured, one not. The Cubone idea could be explained by the matured one passing in the egg, the non-matured one taking the skull as a symbol of protection. Dark but supports the idea

Basically Psyduck said it was sleeping in its pokeball. As far as Ash goes... the only thing I can think of as a loophole I can personally think of to the Ho-Oh theory is all the people around him. They would basically age normally unless Ash's adventures were all a dream in some shape or form 🤔 or unless everyone also saw Ho-Oh and basically no one really ages now....

My thoughts on the cubone line is that it’s just an urban legend. A tale so often told it’s considered true. Cubone is just born like that. The skull is part of cubone. But by looking at its evolution people just assumed and spun the story that it’s their mothers skull. When In reality cubones break off from their mothers early on. Since they’re primarily solitary Pokémon. Able to survive on their own from an early age no longer needing their mothers they break off but due to them never being around their mothers people just assumed that the skull it’s wearing is it’s mother.
