Most ordinary folks in any country are quite friendly to foreigners. If you're courteous and respect their customs, they are more than happy to help you or even befriend you whether you're just a passerby or intending to stay. It's not as scary as one might think.

You deserve credit for adapting so comfortably to your new abode. I've seen people who just moans and complains. But I have a feeling the fascinating China outside of your apartment more than compensate for the minor issues inside your apartment! :D

Ludovico Garavani Why 80%?...Anyway, since I'm a straight guy even if it's 100% - what's the big deal? Also you're not the only one in the world who can have multiple KZbin accounts. I can be spending half my time using another account arguing with people who criticise China unfairly. P.S. Nice to know even someone so insignificant like me can have a troll! :D

So that means that instead of the nail salon you would like an internet cafe with decent monitors.

You got a point. But maybe a grocery store would have been better than a nail salon. You are concerned about internet cafes but would get a pedi? What's wrong with you. You probably have nail fungus already.

I really like your attitude, always looking on the bright side of life. TBH the apartment is quite small, especially the kitchen, the bedroom, and the bathroom. It is kind of depressing that it gets more and more expensive to live a decent life in big cities in China, especially for young people.

Labor in China is extremely cheap, so it's possible to have such a secluded bar that barely sees customers stay afloat, likely costs the building nothing to run. And the novelty of it would pay itself off in attracting customers, as you say it is quite handy to have.

As someone grew up in Shenzhen and lives in the US for ten years now, I highly recommend Shenzhen to westerners, it is one of the most futurist city I've seen, also super welcoming and cool. you may not get much traditional Chinese culture there, but you can always take a short trip to those historical places, bullet train, flights or driving, so convenient.

The connection stability of the ExpressVPN depends on the quality of your Internet. Your VPN doesn’t drop literally because you have a high quality Internet access. Seeing you are charged 200 CNY per month for the Internet, if phone doesn’t included, then that’s very expensive in China and should be a super fast Internet. When I use the same VPN in my school, it frequently drops due to the slow Internet.

People have to realize that 5500RMB rent for a 1 bedroom apartment like this is considered quite expensive in China. However, in a major city like Shenzhen, BJ, or Shanghai, it is considered average for a decent neighborhood. Put it this way, average salary for an average Chinese in a major city is like 4000RMB. Even fresh college graduates are looking at maybe 8000RMB (per month).

Actually poppy, we chinese like to hang out clothes in the balcony and only use this kind of dryer when it is really humid in Shenzhen and the clothes still feel kinda wet after being hung out for a day or two.😂😂 that is why it takes you forever to dry the clothes . But for those who do not like to hang out their clothes,( most do becuz chinese believe sunshine can kill bacteria), they have decent dryers just like those in western countries

Loved the video and how adaptable you are to your surroundings. Cool little apartment can’t wait to see Jordan and Livios apartment too! Btw I have a question do you have any advise for how to use your cellphone in other countries? Do you only wait till you get WiFi or do you purchase a new SIM card? Anyone else who travels feel free to answer to please. I’m planning on going to South America early next year.
@WheresPoppy
@WheresPoppy 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I would say for the most part you don't need cell service when traveling. Most places you go offer free wifi and if you see a Starbucks or even McDonalds you can always trust them to have it as well. The only times I've bought service was here in China of course because I live here and it makes life a lot more convenient. And two, when I was in Malaysia because I volunteered at a resort that literally banned the wifi haha. If you still want to buy cell service to feel more confortable while traveling, which is understandable then it's super easy. You can get it at any phone company, kiosk, or even the airport. However, you do need to have an unlocked phone to do this so I recommend either buying one, jailbreaking it, or hopefully you have a phone old enough like I do that can be unlocked. I hope this answers your question!

My appartment in another city has a bigger private surrounding in the fourth floor. There are a street of shops and a small manmade forest and gardens, and swiming pool, tenis fields and restaurants and so on. But tell you what, those shops can't last long and they will switch owner every half year. Because if you just do business within the buildings ,there aren't much profit they can earn.

Great video, You have a really cute place! The apartments coming somewhat furnished is a nice thing! Less to buy haha. Yeah I agree, one minor bummer about a lot of apartments here is the typical small kitchen/bathroom .. but it keeps it interesting, and kinda grows on you after a while. Thanks for the tour! I think I'm gonna copy your fake grass for my porch :-D

JacobysJourneys actually in china family. Toilet always like this . The so called asian style only in public bathroom because Chinese don’t like have skin touch with the toilet and most of Chinese have very flexible legs

Wei Zhang I guess it depends on the home and area; here in Guangxi most of the homes I’ve been to don’t have western toilets. My apartment has one of each style actually.

yeah Guangxi is actually less developed unfortunately so unless you live in a relatively new condo you might have an old style toilet

Too many stuffs for a tiny apartment, probably because they are all exposed. I'd suggest put all the stuffs into a white, clean, minimalist storage with doors. 40 square meters is small, but you can make it looks bigger if you know how to organize the space. ohh its all rented, nvm. Nice video~

Clean up your laundry room and throw out the washin machine. Then buy an automatic washin machine with a drying function.

I use Google Cloud Platform to install a VPN for myself. It is super fast! And it has a free trial for 1 year now. I definitely will pay for it after the trial.

🎓 🍽️ 🍉 Apartment blocks' residents and landed houses' inhabitants have been defraying the same costs of postage for no different kinds of postal service charged by the post office ever since 1959. The distance between every letterbox & every apartment block's resident's unit and the distance between each letterbox & each landed house are somewhat inconveniently different. Had the letterboxes been relocated from the 1st-storey to every floor around every lift level of an apartment block, the residents would have experienced much more decently convenient daily living.
