A Lamborghini have brand recognition, AlphaTheta doesn’t have brand value yet. They’re trying to piggy back on Pioneer DJ to market their products. If I am a new DJ without knowledge of equipment I couldn’t make a difference between AlphaTheta and other brands. That controller is overpriced and not that great. No one in the videos was really that critical of the controller but most of the people reactions were negative. It was like a movie the critics love but the public hate. You were able to capture the sentiment regular DJs were feeling.

When I watched the first video, I was bracing for impact!! Being honest can put you in a tough situation. It is good to see your apology. I understand your point. The reviewers don't tell you their real opinion, to not burn the bridges with the brand. That is simply a fact. They can deny this all they want, but as you said: you had your experience with Denon DJ. They'll never say something sucks. And they won't "simply not post" because that is missing out on views. I follow a couple of the channels you mentioned and some you didn't and don't have an allegiance one way or another but I think some of the reactions seem to have been a bigger deal than anything that was said. I think we all know, or should at least should know by now to take any product review video from the internet regardless of the product with just an ounce of skepticism. Whether it's a paid endorsement or not if the product wasn't purchased from somewhere then a relationship exists between that content creator and the manufacturer. If they want to continue that relationship then they're going to be a little more careful about what they say and many of the negatives or downfalls of the product are generally going to be handled as nicely as possible because as a content creator they want to continue to have the opportunity to review new products like this. That's not a detriment to someone's character to point that out.

This is exactly what I was thinking too. There's no way there can't be bias for some people. And, I don't fully believe that some of these people aren't getting ANYTHING free at some time or another. They are getting something out of these reviews. It may not be money; it many not be equipment, but no way I believe it's nothing. People are people. We change our behaviors based on what we think is best for us.

The influencer / reviewer gets first access to new products which translates to views, subscribers, clout = money in their pockets. The viewer / potential buyer gets a biased review, incomplete information and deliberately held back and misleading information which results in a poor choice of purchase = money out of their pocket. I will admit said unit has some cool features but what the device is and what it offers at THAT price point is ridiculous. Hey brother, I’ve read many comments on this video. Many people stated that your opinion was spot on. The controller does suck and you were right for saying that I agree with them. I think you will be in totally honest. I think your friends reached out to you because it made them look bad, so you being a good friend made this video retracting your statement I think that was a mistake. I think you could’ve made the video apologizing to your friends if they were upset with your words, but you were being true to your fans and your subscribers. Sure they will tell to give an honest opinion but being too honest also red flags them not to work with their company anymore. I been in this situation and not to bring any brand names. Don't feel too bad man!! It took me a while to figure out the marketplace. The consumer will always dictate what the market will support. I don't take a second look at anything without spinning platters or turntables. I had to learn that consumers will either buy the thing or service based on their needs alone, and me blasting the product or service doesn't help me at all. I know it's tempting to call out something for being BS because we all want to do the right thing to reduce erroneous objectives, but I had to learn to place more confidence in the consumer, and marketplace that it will correct itself on its own. Don't be too stressed out man. Believe me, you are not alone in trying to call attention to preferential treatment in the industry, as we are experiencing it more and more. When I see some of my DJ competitors in my area showing up more and more on Google paid ads, WW, The K, and Facebook Ads, it just lets me know that their quid-pro-quo collectives are probably not panning out for them, and many consumers have caught on to their game.

When I watched the video I didn't quite take it as some others had. But I can also see where they are coming from. But there is still something to be said about contracts or NDA's that these individuals have to succumb to. I think Phil, Nick and Cleveland are all great people and I don't think they will ever be untruthful in their reviews. But I do think they are going to soften their punch on some critiques for fear of losing relationships with the Pioneer brand or other brands. But that again is a fault of the NDA's and these brands, not the individuals themselves.

I know reviewers don't want to draw comparisons left right and centre when highlighting something new, but the duo (compared to those in it's class) is clearly lacking in areas and these WERE NOT called out or reiterated enough to quell the pushback from the community. I have no doubt that as a controller, it will do what you need it to do wonderfully, but WE as a DJ COMMUNITY have seen the PRIME GO for 4 years now... We both (community and reviewer) know what we love about it... we both know what we hate about it... we both know what we wanted to see brought to THIS controller... We're all naturally going to draw comparisons to existing products (rightly or wrongly) and consideration has to be given and addressed in that regard. I feel for you Rick, you did the right thing in replying/apologising BUT... you are NOT at fault for being put in this unfortunate position.

I think your message was great except saying those vloggers get paid. I have 2 lighting companies that send me stuff, I can say whatever I like and unlike Pioneer DJ , I can keep the lights. But I do not get paid by these companies. Keep it real and don't take it so bad. Like I said, the only bad thing was saying they got paid. Peace!
