🚨!! Guys I got back the laptop in the mail and it turns out they replaced the entire OLED module and the main board, and the unit was in warranty. I have my suspicions about why they may have done that. Anyways, a lot of the data on the drive was corrupted thanks to the dell automatic OS recovery software that ran automatically. At Least 400GB of video footage, and other files are corrupted/unrecoverable.

When i worked in IT, we used to have so many different brands we had to deal with. Asus/Dell xps/Surface were always a pain... always breaking, always had driver issues, when you take them apart you need a trillion different screwdrivers etc. Toshiba/lenovo were easy well built, we had toshiba going back years that never needed anything fixed on them. The only thing annoying with lenovo was their docking stations. I'm by no means an expert... and everyone has their opinions but that was my experience.

Thank you for sharing, it definitely confirms my existing belief. Man I do love this ASUS with the OLED screen but the thing sometimes feels like skating on thin ice. Read my pinned comment, I got the machine back and it turns out the replaced the entire OLED module without that being the problem. Next time around we're most probably going with Lenovo.

I feel your pain and I'm sorry for what you went through. I've been in tech since mid-1990's (no typo) and in the past month, gone through similar, unending, nearly unfixable problems. I ended up getting a new laptop. If they're about 5 years old, it's time to upgrade, so budget for that. My takeaway is, NO hardware or software is 100% solid, sadly. I've used Dell (Alienware) for decades and still will, mostly because of their warranty (even though they never are able to properly fix overheating issues - you have to either do it yourself or send it to someone that has the skill). To my knowledge, no other hardware manufacturer, will send out a tech the next day to visit you on-site, with the needed parts, to fix your system, virtually anywhere in the world. No need to send it in and wait for who knows how long without a system. You can extend the warranty for up to 4 years (or more). It's worth it's weight in GOLD. I've had techs come to me in Estonia to fix my system, as well in the U.S. In one case, they essentially gave me a new laptop. That tech says all systems have hardware issues, there is no BEST one. He changed the display, motherboard, repasted the CPU / GPU, gutting the system and restoring it with new parts. It was essentially a new laptop. When it comes to Dell and Windows, yes, there's a huge problem. MS / Windows, allows companies to update ANYTHING in your system, yes, even the BIOS. And Dell in some cases, won't permit a BIOS downgrade! So, they crippled an older Alienware laptop I have, robbing it of features I bought it for. I cannot now undervolt or overclock it, due to an arcane "security" thing, which virtually no person on earth would ever experience. So, here's my solution to that. Use software to create a Windows install environment that doesn't install all the bloatware Windows and it's partners feel you need. Second, remove all Dell software that has anything to do with "delivery" or anything that hints it's looking at your system. If you're not running an Alienware, remove ALL Dell software. Don't let their software know or look at your system. You don't need it. If you have a problem, then try a newer driver. Still, you (and I) have the challenge to be able to have any control over what Windows / MS feels and their partner's feel our system needs, always the latest version of whatever poorly tested new stuff they've come out with. There are updates forced on us by MS / Windows and some of them offer no choice or are done "behind the scenes", without our knowledge or consent, for "our good". Well, I absolutely do not agree. Like you, I've seriously considered moving to Linux (Apple, sorry, no... I'd like to have some choices remaining) due to the upgrades Windows forced on us. Like you, I want a stripped, lean, trading machine and in control of it. I don't want games on it, automatic updates, high usage processes starting up whenever they feel like it, that I have no control over, etc., etc. My trading machine should be solely for my BUSINESS of trading and not interfered with by the OS creator. Ok, I've written enough. I probably will investigate Linux. It seems Sierra Chart should run on it. So, thanks for that and I hope what I've stated helps you and others. Cheers!

I wouldn't say this is the moral of the video, desktops are great though. Nothing beats the portability and flexibility that a laptop has, in combination with cloud servers, you can work from anywhere.

@@VerrilloTrading You need a nas where you can holds your backups. Synology nas is good option, if you dont want burn your time. I use Clonezilla for backup and i backup entire HDD -> image option. Later restore takes about 15-20 minutes and you have full restore of system and files. Clonezilla is freeware. I use role workstation intel nuc I7 13gen with 2 hdmi and 2 thunderbolt output which allows me connect up to 4 monitors and 9 years old i5 Dell laptop for travelling it is little bit slow but doing job done. With nas you can sync data folders with both machines... A cloud server means that you keep your files and data on someone else's computer. It can't be safe, but it's convenient.

So I have a dell G7 15 which for 5 years I've used specifically for trading. The fan runs like crazy! One of the reasons that I found out was IKBR uses Chromium engine for TWS. Chromium is a power hungry mess. I use the Dell because Microsoft has native multiple monitor support, and MAC doesn't. However, the new M4 Macs are coming out soon and have this feature now. The new ARM chips are fantastic. I will be trying one out when they come out and after I see the several KZbinrs I follow test them. Once I verify that the new Macs can work for me...( Full disclosure, I have an M2 Mac air and its great).The Dell and MS products are gone forever. BTW, love the videos, you've helped me immensely in my IKBR journey. Thanks

Thank you for sharing! I've never been a Mac guy but I respect that they have one of the most stable systems these days. They just work, especially for certain tasks like music production, and coding workflow.
@zo9fg29 күн бұрын
so does that mean IBKR uses more CPU core than GPU? So get better CPU over GPU?
@commercegil29 күн бұрын
@@zo9fg That I can't tell you. However, I feel in my research that the new MAC GPU's will be fine, we will see. I don't think the graphics for trading are anywhere near what you'd need for gaming. All I know is, I have to go to the task manager every morning and keep shutting off Chromium until the fan quits.I watched a bunch of videos on how to delete Chromium off my computer, but it kept showing up. That's when I found out that IKBR TWS uses it and keeps loading it on my machine. My dell works just fine for me and I really don't need to change anything except I could probably get a fan controller and go that route but the processor would then run hotter. Its a blessing and a curse.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, i had terrible experience with lenovo. Bought an x1 back in the day, had to exchange it first day bec the fan was so loud and ran so hot i was afraid it would fry. The 2nd had the exact same issue, ended up buying and asus ux32vd, upgraded memory and installed ssd 10y ago and it is still cranking

WTF. Well I have a great Dell that im terrified of now. I only use Linux VMs cause Im all Apple guy. Im not a fan of regulars windows anything. Great video though bro. Youre way more tech then I am so if this happened to me on Windows. Holy fuck man
@VerrilloTrading28 күн бұрын
Do regular backups is all I can say lol. The dell was overall good except for the craziness of auto bios updating. It is clearly not foolproof when it comes to dual boot setups like I have. What I have seen is that when Windows was installed on another machine and you put the hard drive in a new machine, it can create all sorts of weird security issues. Definitely do backups before porting over a windows hard drive into another machine.

How do you know the files are corrupted, when you cant read the Linux files in windows ? Just wondering if you have a false positive - so-to-speak. .... Sorry this happened bro, wish I understood Linux a bit more to have some ideas. Mutahar (someOrdianry Gamer) Canadian guy on KZbin is a big Linux user, wonder if he has any ideas. I have a weird feeling the files are saying corrupt, because Windows cant read the files and doesnt understand the file structure

Hi I like your channel and the height quality content! From personal experience NEVER BUY ASUS ! May UX360 just full apart right after two year with gentle using it. Asus is a piece of garbage computers.However i got from work Dell that work well, BUT i had same experience as you had, the BIOS just out of the blue decided to do something and deleting EVERYTHING. I traveling and need good relabel machine, didn't like Lenovo parts,configuration quilt. any recommend? Thank David
