Really loved this episode. You hit so many great points! Looking back, I always knew I was different and tried so hard to fit in, but it just made me feel worse. I saw the people closest to me struggling. My only friend was disabled. My parents are most certainly undiagnosed neurodivergents, but to me they were normal as a kid. I was in serious denial until my toddler had regressed for several months to the point he couldn’t say a single word anymore. I was misdiagnosed by my health system with BPD, and before that by a psychiatrist with bipolar disorder. I wish I would have persisted and found out what was really going on, before I struggled further, through grad school, marriage, and not knowing what was happening to my kids. It’s so important for the mental health system to catch up on the scientific evidence and assess adults that were missed as kids. We have trauma simply from being ignored and invalidated, forced to endure so much discomfort while believing we are deficient and bad all those years. It is the least they can do. I had to pay thousands out of pocket too. I’m currently in the midst of getting my first kid evaluated, as I am realizing that he likely has a PDA profile, something that made him seem normal enough to be missed. I ignored all the signs prior to my second kid’s obvious signs, because of that denial and lack of information. I hope this episode is heard widely so it can help others.

Demi i saw you on the bachelor and recognized your loving heart, and felt like you didn't need to behave like a sex kitten to be valued (not knocking that energy, just saying i acknowledge it was a vantage point you were using but it wasn't completely you). and i figured a couple of years ago that i'm neurospicy as well- often feeling out of place, fumbling my words, being misunderstood, etc ... of course these things can happen to anyone, but they're life-long patterns and we deploy serious coping strategies (against ourselves) to survive. i randomly sought you out today to see how you're doing and i'm happy to see more self acceptance in your life. bless you for your tenacity and bravery! ❣️

Another great episode! You are teaching me a lot. I AM a therapist and have discussed these topics with many adult women who self diagnose, or we do that together unofficially. Really love following this part of your journey. Look forward to the next episode. You’re a natural podcaster. 🙏👍💐
