Put a zip tie on the end that does not have the clip. You will never have to worry about it coming apart or losing part of it. kzbin.infoUgkxxvthjLYk8bJwhOkjNsLvPwnSKZmnHeT1 The diameter of the holes are about 2 1/2". They can still get out if there is no bait in the trap. You can also use a zip tie to keep the bait in place. I use a can of Sardines in oil with hole punched in it wired to the bottom and then loose Chicken or fish. This keeps them there longer, but if left long enough the trap will be empty. I learned this the hard way. I threw the trap in and watched it aMost fill up. Like a dummy, I got greedy, when I came back in an hour, all were gone except four. Good buy for the money!

The trap you're using is a Promar collapsible crab trap, here in the UK I've caught Brown Cram and Lobster in the same trap, tip number 1 "throw the bait bag in the bin", tip number 2 "Use a full fish (I use Mackerel ), if you use smelly bait (leave it out for a day before using) then you'll catch Lobster, if you use it fresh you'll catch crabs or prawns, always put it down at dusk and leave at least overnight (less than that is no good at all) .... hi just want to share my experience with the crab traps..i usually to tie my line at the top of the cage because if it is tied at the side, sometimes the crabs can fall out when retrieving and also tying the line on top will prevent the trap from opening due to snags..also the smaller round trap is worth a try as because the netting and frame is made from a stronger material than the big cage.. smaller hole is also harder for flower crabs to escape

2 things; #1 - Do not be discouraged. I have trapped crabs for decades and the number one thing that made a difference was not the bait. It was location, location, location. Just like real estate, crab have their preferred locations. Even with a boat, my friends and I what's real crab traps all over the place until we found them. Then we would gather the other traps and put them where the crab were...... #2 - I have moved inland and have a back injury oh, so I can't get on the ocean anymore. At that time, none of the good crab traps were collapsible. That is the most amazing design I have seen, period! If you didn't have a large boat, it was Impractical to carry more than two crab traps (pots) per person. My congratulations to the inventor of that pot! I have burned 23 million (brain) calories trying to come up with a good collapsible design. All it took was a smarter person! Keep on trying, keep trapping.

Bait is important and location location location (including tide). For flower crab try sembawang jetty. Mud crabs quite tricky, u may need to find mangrove areas and some canals that do not have construction nearby... (which is impossible nowadays) go sembawang and try la

I crab all the time. It is better to wait at least 3-4 hours before checking it. Also use more bait you may need to replace the bait bag with a bigger one and put 3 or 4 small cut up fish in them.

Because it is one of the best designs I've seen in six decades. The problem with catching crab is not the bait, or specifically the trap. It is location. Crabs move around and have their preferred locations. The trick is finding them, then throwing your traps. Almost any bait will do, almost any trap will do. This design however is amazing, allowing you to carry more traps without requiring a hay wagon to haul them!

Crab Trap operator (you) is not good. Many people with many different bait types have had very good results with this trap. It's more about location. Putting the traps where the crab are, not where you think they should be. It takes a little work.

Use a ring crabbing net , that would work better than this trap . This is more of a fish trap than a crab trap. If you want a better crabbing trap than the traditional ring net , get the promar blue steel box crab pot . Those are heavy duty and have openings for crab to enter and cost a bit more .
