I am weirdly disgusted by the young Sand bender... Like... Bro's "I'm sorry, we didn't know it belonged to the Avatar" implies he only feels guilt because of fear of Aang's power... Had it been anyone else he wronged he'd feel no guilt. Genuinely a vile dude. Also to my knowledge that Buzzard Wasp is the only confirmed kill Aang has had thus far... Which makes it extra shocking and horrifying...

If im going to be completely honest, that’s what they do, they live in the desert, they gotta trade to survive. Let you live in that place your whole life and then you see a what was thought to be extinct species, you’ll probably try to take it too so that you can have better stuff for your tribe. Im not gonna blame him for the messed up situation their lives put them in. Remember the swamp benders wanted to eat momo and Appa, that’s just how it is sometimes. @@justingabriel1765 Trading is not the same as stealing. The swamp benders probably assumed Appa and Momo were just stray wild animals at first, but the sandbenders saw Appa with the gang so they knew what they were doing. The father disapproved of what his son did when he found out so clearly they're not all bad. Sure, living in the desert has got to be terrible but that doesn't excuse endangering other people, especially when it's the world's last hope for peace. @@justingabriel1765 I'm feeling pretty okay, thanks for asking. Believe me I sympathize very easily with morally grey or problematic characters, that's why Zuko is my favorite. Hell I even liked Jet when it seems like a lot of the audience didn't. But I need more to go off of to justify someone doing something so selfish. My point about the father was actually me agreeing with you, that the sandbenders are in a difficult situation with deeper motivations than we see. Kinda ironic that you took my one statement in your favor as an attack. And no, you didn't explicitly say stealing is the same as trading, but you did minimize it by focusing on the trading aspect, and again with this comment by calling it a "mistake" which is pretty generous. You're also assuming that he stole Appa specifically for food when he could have just been greedy. If the sandbenders did need the money from Appa to survive, don't you think he would have told Aang when he confronted him? All he says in his defense is that he didn't know it belonged to the Avatar, which is pretty flimsy. The pirates from season 1 also steal and trade to make their living, but that doesn't make them sympathetic (although I do like their style). I don't really get why you defend a character we see for less than a minute and causes the characters so much trouble but you do you.

One fact is ALL of the Avatars were said to have an animal guide, Appa was Aang's and also was the only one Aang had left of the southern temple from 100 years ago. Sure, Momo is also from the temple but not from Aang's time, only Appa. All the Avatars collectively came together to fuel his anger. It was the most controlled because they all had the same exact thought as him, whoever had taken the Avatar's animal guide needed to pay that was the thought of all the past Avatars.

This is my favorite episode of this entire book for me. So many great things. We get to see angry Aang, then dark Aang. We get to see Aang kill (for the first time) that vulture wasp, and cut it in half. (You can see it right before it lands.) You can see that Appa being taken and muzzled is the same for Aang as being attacked and activated the avatar state (which is just supposed to be a defense mechanism for him.) Toph experience that avatar state for the first time, and all she can do is be shocked, that Aang is this overwhelming rage. Then Katara being the mvp this episode, keeping every together the best she can, and being the only one that could actually stop Aang. If she wasn't there, 100% Aang would've kill them all.
@frijolitoazul43432 жыл бұрын
the vulture is not cut in half, when the vulture falls it's actually just the way it's neck is bended and is so thin from far away that gives the impression that it's not there, so it looks like the head is cut appart, but if you zoom in you can still see some pixels between the head and the body. doesn't matter though, that vulture is dead as hell

Now once she’s finally accepted helping and getting help from others, the first time she is by herself she loses Appa. She went through all that growth and now that she actually cares and has turned away from the tough guy persona, all the things she said while wearing it get thrown back in her face too when Aang said she wanted him gone

Aang was so lost without Appa that he was going against own his principles. They've always been together ever since they met even when they froze in the sea, It's no wonder he reacted the way he did. This was also a great episode for Katara, her ability to keep a level head while her team is fissuring apart. She also realizes that Aang doesn't mean what he says and is only lashing out because he's hurting and angry that his friend has been kidnapped and feels helpless. We have seen so far that Aang generally avoids hurting people, or at least hurting them badly. Added with the fact that he's a vegetarian, and the only food we see so far that other Airbenders have eaten not really containing meat, it's possible the Air Nomads try their best to be passive and avoid hurting/killing. The only confirmed kills we have from Air Nomads before this episode was the implication that Monk Gyatso went out like a total badass and somehow killed all of the Fire Nation soldiers in the room where he ended up dying. (Maybe he sucked the air outta them? Or made a vortex thingy that made it so nobody, including him, could breathe? I wonder if he was the last airbender there to go down, or if he was sacrificing himself to let others escape. Sadly, if it's the latter, we know it didn't really work bc there aren't any descendants of escaped Air Nomads that we know of.)

What you really need to pay attention to is the *entire temple* is clean of Fire Nation dead besides around Gyatso. An entire temple of Air Benders and the Fire Nation forces while under the influence of Sozin’s comet chose to devote their entire force on Gyatso alone. Also, sad story thats fleshed out in the comics, there *were* Air Benders that survived the attack on the temples. The Fire Nation raided the temples afterward and took a bunch of sacred items to use like a breadcrumb trail for survivors to think they’d found hidden enclaves of other Air Benders hidden in the mountains. They’d then trap them in the caves as they desperately sought the kin that was never there and slaughtered them through force of numbers

Aang's unstable emotional state really speaks volumes to how much Appa means to him. He only really goes into the Avatar state when his life or the lives of people he loves are in danger (aside when he saw monk Gyatso's skeleton, which triggered it through intense grief). But this time, no one's life was in direct danger. It was triggered by pure rage. All that anger and fury built up from his oldest and closest friend's capture and mistreatment, finally exploding.

Btw, you shouldn't drink from a cactus. In most cases it's poisonous. Drinking the juice was also never part of any survival guides. You're supposed to cut out a piece and put it below your tongue. That will quench your thirst for a while, but you aren't actually drinking anything from it. It just helps you to preserve the water you already have by making traveling easier.

This all stems from the first episode of the season, where Katara said she couldn't bear to watch Aang be in such rage and pain.

You need to understand is that this episode puts into perspective the bond between a bison and a bender, and especially Aang and Appa because frankly they might be the last of their kind, and Appa is the only friend that's always with Aang, think of it as losing something that's so engrained into your life that living without it feels unbearable. Appa is half of Aang and vice versa. The fact is losing Appa drives a pacifist like Aang, someone who wouldn't want to hurt a soul if he could help it, to kill. Someone who's so very much stuck up and feels strongly about the path of the Air nomad, someone who always finds a peaceful solution. He killed, an animal at that. Why the fact he killed an animal is important? Because animal doesn't know good from bad so him killing that buzzard wasp is just him killing an innocent animal.

@@justingabriel1765 The newest 3 movies were announced a few weeks ago, so it is quite new. We should have heard a lot more about ATLA, especially the live action version sooner, but my guess is that they didnt want the marketing to overlap with the blue alien Avatar

Yes this is the second time Aang blew up on Toph, but if you recall that was when she mentioned Azula and company were able to follow them because of Appa. He rages over that Sky Bison when people talk shit or hurt him.

I can't wait until she sees The Eclipse and what follows. And, of course, the Ember Island Players.

Trauma and revenge! Iroh was a general and heir to the throne. He knows the military quite well. We last saw the Rough Rhinos in Avatar Day. 6:21 Let's not overlook Zuko's precision. So we've got the near sighted girl, and the tripping balls lemur and brother. Poor Katara. Sokka, nothing that makes that kind of dust cloud is friendly. Well you'd need to hand h him over in his Blue Spirit getup to get paid twice to do Captain Tagon's happy dance. Katara knows people die. Heck, she may also have had to see friendly livestock butchered to keep the tribe going. Remember how Iroh diverted the ship in season 1 because he though that he lost is White Lotus tile? Not Pai Sho society, White Lotus. Buzzard bees. FRICK THAT! Sokka's still tripping, and Katara is going to need a chiropractor visit after all this carrying. "AANG KILLING SOMTHING!?" "That's not like him!" Correct. Excluding avatar state, that's the first confirmed kill (even if he may have suffocated soldiers with avalanches and sent others falling to their deaths at the Northern Air Temple.) Airbenders may be pacifistic as a general principle, but as someone from the midwest, Air is not always a gentle element. "I didn't know it belonged to the Avatar" So it would be okay if Appa belonged to a poor family or was a beloved pet for some nobles? Mad props to Katara for the cooldown hug. That must have eeen a lot of stinging from the sand. Told you that new tear mode would be getting use.

If you need an show that you wont cry on try K-on. It's a slice of life of a group of girls learning instruments to put on a concert for the school festival. It's very cutesy, lots of slapstick humor, easy to follow and the artstyle is pretty nice too. Or if you want something more "Boys being boys" feel with lots of comedy you can try Daily Lives of High School Boys. It's more episodic but the humor is top notch.

What? They show previous episodes, that’s like the opposite of spoiling. They allow people to infer what might happen but that’s it.

@@worthythaneofross3925 yeeeaaah but, they start to recall stuff that would be much better as a surprise. it won’t ruin anything of course, but i think skipping it makes the experience more enjoyable

Honestly, yeah how dare Aang take out his anger on Toph, I get he's angry that his best friend was taken away but Toph is already feeling guilty enough she didn't deserve that. And how could she "come and get them" when the Library was sinking, if anything it was Sokka's fault for pissing off the Owl to cause the building to sink, and for keeping Aang behind to "watch his back" when it wasn't even necessary since Wan Shi Tong was already distracted The sand benders did deserve the Avatar state outburst though

This episode makes me even sadder that the live action removed almost all of kitara's feminine/nurturing nature in the live action :( All of these kids are motherless and she fills that role for them without thinking. Such a beautiful example of a strong woman, and not just because she is a waterbender.
