Hi Dre, interesting cap collection, and congratulations! Since you tend to minimalist designs, what do you think of the New Era Fear of God collaboration 5950 collection? Best collection I’ve ever seen in my opinion, I’m a minimalist too and I enjoy using caps, been asking for this video a while ago, now I see more hats that I like, love your collection really, you keep everything smooth and also rare! Nice stuff. Thanks for your videos - I found your channel recently after re-investing in some Cubs caps - they are my guys, and the only New Era caps of a current team I will wear. (I do have some other stuff in '47 Cooperstown and EFF, etc.) As someone who first found fitted caps more than 30 years ago - I find it interesting some of the changes in the New Era lineup and mentality since then. For starters they were much less of a brand, "59Fifty" wasn't even a thing when I got my first cap at Wrigley at age 13. All that started about the 1992-94 range after they added the batterman logo to the back. While I appreciate now that there is a Low Crown option - they look much better on my weak forehead, 7 1/4 noggin - I think that overall the NE quality has suffered since they closed down the Derby plant a few years ago. While the Asian caps have improved in the last 10 years and especially since MUSA is no longer an option - there was just something about those caps. The Poly was cleaner, softer, brighter - and overall the cap construction seemed more consistent. The Low Pros I get today are certainly viable caps - but like with the Cubs medium blue - it seems the fabric gets dustier quicker, requires cleaning more often, etc. etc. I do wish that retailiers like Lids and Locker Room and Authentics would stock more Low Pros on the regular - I'm a stickler for things like logo precision and centering, visors being straight, etc. and sometimes ordering even multiple caps online turns out to be a huge waste of time when I have to send all of them back. I'm usually able to luck out once a year or so and find a Cubs Low Pro that is at least acceptable if not off-the-charts great - you find those occasionally too. I wear 7 1/4, but can make a 7 3/8 if work if I have to as well. I have also seemed to notice that at least in recent years, my local Lids seems to get a lot less speciality caps like spring training 39Thirities, etc. than they did 5-10 years ago. They will get some unique ones, but most are way over the top gaudy for my tastes. Maybe I just need to find some different locations. Sorry that was random and starting to ramble, but thanks again for all your work!

I hear you about modern selections in-store at Lids... when I went in this spring and asked about any (Tigers) Clubhouse Collection caps they received this year, they looked at me like I just stepped off a spaceship - "Clubhouse Collection? What is that?" So despite NE releasing one pretty consistently for several years now, there were none at my local stores. Also agree on the Low Pro, the way they sell online, I would think in-store inventories would rise a little bit, but I haven't seen it happen in my region either. This is a great video. You have a terrific collection Doug. To me whether you have 20 or 100 or 1000 caps you have a formidable collection. I applaud your restraint by not letting your collection become too excessive which constrains the frequency with which you wear your individual the caps. That is a downside that I have (over 1000). I would encourage you to consider campaigning for selection as a Finalist in the Lids Ultimate Hat Colllection contest. This video gives you such an advantage. A guy like you who is so well known in the cap community it’s almost criminal not to be in that contest (which to me, is more of a celebration of cap collecting). Great seeing ya.

No, they don’t, but my associate the Captician makes a good one just for caps. I use it on my white or lighter colored caps. Thank you!

A really, nice collection, Doug! Thank you for sharing that was really cool! Unfortunately, my city connect Reds cap reverted back to being tight on me again hopefully I’ll be able to show someone how to follow your videos since I won’t be able to physically stretch that the cap myself. Otherwise I’m going to have to bite the bullet and try a size bigger I guess but I really think that’s going to be too big. I just need relief around my forehead.

That is unfortunate, but if you go one size up and it gets too big, it's not a big deal to "shrink" it to fit... I use felt weatherstrip when I have a fresh (short) haircut - it's detailed in my video called "The Haircut Problem" if you look it up at my channel page, thanks!

Actually I rotate sets of caps - a fall/winter set and a spring summer collection - between shelving in a coat closet and a large Rubbermaid plastic bin in the basement. My cap buying has slowed to a crawl, because I do like to wear a lot of them, and I'd say I've probably got more like 25-30 "regulars" in each of those two seasonal sets. Even if I wear them only 3-5 times during six months!

Yeah, not much of a football fan, to be honest. Although there have been a few decent NFL cap collections in recent years, I've pretty much stayed focused on MLB and NBA caps.

@dreinthe616 MLB does the best job in that, and they always do a majority of their designs in all their cap models. NFL does the same thing, except their are bigger advocates of the 39THIRTY. Which I don't mind because they are the only fitted hat I will actually wear. NBA does a great job on their hats, too, but I am not the biggest fan of the New Era 9FIFTY, which is pretty much their main source of neat designs that they do not put on other models.

Lol, yes, that word "modest" is in response to the kinds of cap heads that enter the Lids "Ultimate Hat Collector" contest - often their collections are comfortably in the hundreds or even thousands!

@@JS-dz4bz Yes, sometimes... I mentioned that I've gotten very selective now, and greatly curtailed new cap purchases. I do have a storage bin and change out my fall/winter caps for spring/summer ones each year. But tbh I've also considered selling some caps.

No, not yet - if there is one soon it will be a historic logo, probably the older 'D' that '47 is currently using on an MVP model, I believe.
