Both are cool in very different ways! It's neat that they share the same the same connective tissue though. Almost sounds like the kind of thing where you could form a single song by using the fusion version for 2 / 3 minutes, and then having a half-time breakdown of the original version to end the track. Love stuff like that Beautiful chord progression as well. Without passing chords it still sounds so dreamy and smooth

absolute gem of a channel, I’ve been a metal musician for the last decade or so and now I’ve just uploaded my first lofi/jazz tune on distrokid. Your channel has been a big help bridging the gap!

Everytime I learn some cool harmonic stuff and think to myself that it's somewhat complex, I come to youtube and see thing like this 😂 Well done Jaron

Whether you've 'ruined' it or not depends on artistic intent and that is an entirely subjective call. The two trigger completely different responses, I wouldn't necessarily say one is better than the other, which i guess is your point :D Personally I prefer the stripped back version where the metronomic drums serve as a bed for the melodic elements, in the fusion version there is a lot of competition between the different elements. Not a value judgement, just a preference.

Such a great video! As a fellow lifelong learner of music making, I’d like to bring a note here that can potentially benefit each of us here: Over the years, one thing I consistently observed in great producers and mixing engineers is that they work pretty quickly. For example, J Dilla was known to produce most of his greatest beats in 10-15 minutes, 9th Wonder as well. Pro mixing engineers apply this as well because they don’t want to lose perspective by spending too much time on individual parts and problems. What I realized is that what we call “vibe” is most of the time our gut feel so listening to it can hopefully help as well. I hope this helps somebody one day!

Why do you feel that if one part becomes complex all the other parts have to be made complex too? Couldn't it be interesting to mix degrees of complexity within a single piece?

while the second version certainly is impressive regarding technical and musical knowledge it is too complex for my taste. a lot is happening quickly, so many chord changes. the second is more simple and relaxed. just make the drums more interesting, expand the bass line at certain points and you have a proper lofi beat, perfect for background music
@lennarttendam2 жыл бұрын
THIS IS CLICKBAIT, because you did not ruin your improv! :) It's actually pretty dope IMHO. I would love to hear (& see) an arrangement, where you develop the simple vibe of the two chords into your overthinking fusion piece, cuz i can relate to both hahaha
