Very creative alternative to replacing the water pipe plus the pipe fittings will last a lifetime. Great work!
@andrewgere8756Ай бұрын
Good work on the repairs. When I saw that gingerbread mess of manifold fittings, it reminds me that the hidden systems on sailboats are often built with little thought for service or maintenance, and are poorly engineered and badly fabricated. All those threaded fittings were almost guaranteed to leak somewhere, and it would have been better to pressure test the manifold with plugs on the outlets before the awful task of installing it in the floor. Worm clamps are another built in failure point but they are cheap and therefore used frequently.

_It’s strange that the store didn’t have a comb manifold for cold water, because the assembly on the tees can crumble under vibration._ _Lauren, you are an endlessly resilient and intelligent woman, I think it is the ups and downs of your adventures, equipment repairs and boat rigging that attract men.🤞_

You need a water maker for sure in the Bahamas. Making water requires running the generator for long hours. Also we are in hurricane season. There is no good hurricane hole in the Bahamas. And none in South Florida too. If the Cat 5 comes - run to South Carolina. I get supplies online cheaper and faster than any boat yard. And i pay much less. Amazon is selling boat parts now and I have saved a fortune. Watch the movie Yellowstone. You are the woman in that movie. She is the star of the show. Because of the way Lauren assembled the replacement manifold without pressure testing before mounting, I feel that it is a potential nest of scorpions waiting to bite her in the not-too-distant future. Also the valve on the water-maker line is not mounted or secured and is another worry. I think the plumbing and electrics on the boat need a professional refurbishment. How she keeps her calm in all this is astonishing!

Does the diesel require there to be back pressure on the exhaust? I ask because I don't really understand why they combine the hot water return from the saltwater exchange into the exhaust separating those pipes would prevent blow back or back pressure where the salt water could get in the oil system. Since that is the problem it seems more like a design issue of the exhaust system... Complete isolation between coolant and oil systems. Just curious my marine experience is U.S. Navy and I wasn't a boiler tech or sfbo so that doesn't relate to diesel well. But the auto mechanics does seem to apply a bit. In auto mechanics we would try and remove anything that created back pressure on the exhaust because it could kill the engine if it was running, lowers horsepower, and reduces engine efficiency, though it also makes it louder typically. That would also be an idea for a video.

i already knew that i will be leaking when i saw it, just because of the number of connections...also you can make some mistakes with teflon tape. better would be one square block of metal with the right number of connections/holes for the fittings...this would remove at least 10 points where it could leak ...alternatively (and maybe cheaper would just be t-fittings connected with tubes which are secured with hose clamps)

All the drama with your muffler seems kinda strange. I installed a 60hp Isuzu diesel in my yacht and there is no muffler as such. There is a plastic box right before the thru hull just above the waterline at the stern near the centre of the boat. The box mixes the exhaust gas and raw water giving the same effect as a muffler. The box is a fraction the size of your muffler was available off the shelf and took about ten minutes to install. A hose takes exhaust and raw water from the heat exchanger to the stern then up to deck level and then down to the mixer and out. The loop up top deck level stops sea water from a wave running back in to the engine.

I would just like to encourage you to dismiss that stuff out of hand.l because even the most popular actors, artists, and other public personalities have the same thing to deal with. The big difference is that they have a pair staff to sift through all the comments they get, and pass along only the most relevant comments, and of course we never hear about all the hate mail they get, but they do get it, it's just part of putting yourself on display and going high profile, and the haters have no worth.
