Matt have you ever thought about going into coaching post playing career? I think you would be so good at it, your analysis videos are very honest and to the point
@magamaga18272 жыл бұрын
I agree. Matt is a student of the game, clearly. Would make a great D1 college coach and then maybe onto the pros after that.

Thanks for this. I am 31 years old (about the same age as you) and I just started to play soccer in 2023. I am WAY past my prime so I have defaulted myself into becoming a CB/Defender for my Rec League team. Videos like this are super helpful because I will never be as good as my teammates who started playing at age 5. They are far better than me at dribbling, vision, & ball skills. However, as a defender, half the battle is being at the right place at the right time, positional placement on the field, and attacking the striker. I appreciate your commentary man. My only regret is not learning of how fun this sport truly is when I was younger lol.
@andyng5321 Жыл бұрын
Actually sometimes the peak of centre backs is from 30 to 35 years old due to it being a position which helps if you have some experience so I would say you might not necessarily be past your prime which is good news :) For goalkeepers it's 33 to 40 so you may consider playing goalkeeper next time.

thsi shows that the best defending is organisation and anticipation, you rearly have to tackle if you keep your composure and calm. SAFETY is something major too if you dont have an opening dont force it you always have a keepert to whom you can play it back, remember keeping position is great

Love the videos . As a center mid here , you’re getting lots of angles to through your ST. So instead of trying to through the players run . Try and aim the pass to a certain part of the field . That way the positioning between ball and goalie isn’t a problem .

Hi Matt, I love your vids as I play as a defender. I play u13 and played a friendly against an academy as a right centre back. Do you have any tips to deal with strong and fast strikers? I am not the fastest but I can run. Thanks from Birmingham, England 🏴
@Thetierlistmaniac2 жыл бұрын
Even though I am not matt, i am also a CB, try to give yourself an advantage, sometimes let the ball run out instead of chasing it. Also hit the ball out of play if you can just about get to it, don't take chances. Give away fouls and go down if you feel contact. Also instead of chasing a through ball, intercept it before it goes past you or reaches the striker
@ironbizmark21742 жыл бұрын
@@Thetierlistmaniac Ok, thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. All the strikers are really tall and I am quite small so if you have anymore advice regarding that topic, it would be helpful.

@@ironbizmark2174 as a defender, most fast wingers are going to want to take you down the line so try to force them wide into a difficult decision, don’t get too tight on them because if they turn on you they’re gone. Do you regret going to Charleston? You seemed like a much better player at Tulsa, you played up front as well, this team your on struggles in the back and up top except your center forward. Your 1v1 defending isn't tight enough and you can make an argument you had a hand in each goal that was scored. I think your channel is great, and last year i was hoping to see you in MLS, but Charleston seems like a tough team to play tactical and technical soccer with. All the best

How you ever thought or playing for a national team if your parents or grandparents are from another country where the level of soccer is not that much you have a lot possibilities to play national games or you can play for united states territories like Puerto Rico or other island you just need to get the resident but usually they help with that !

Hey love your content. I got converted to right centre back after years as a wingback. Finding it hard to have the vision to remember there is a wider option than me my wingback after years of playing off the byline. Do you have any good videos with advice for how to open your body whilst keeping your eye on the ball? I mean specifically when defending a fast attack or counter and your wide centre back has been beaten one on one their winger has driven to the byline and youve had to sprint back watch the ball and your man when they drop off your shoulder back into the empty pocket? Im making most interceptions but theres been a couple of times theyve found a yard or so of space and have only been able to get there last minute to put them off.

Hi matt Thanks for sharing your analysis. It was a good performance. Unfortunately a naive defending from your team ended to loose the game. Also the formation of 3 defenders at the back was a mistake in my opinion, the midfield and forward players don't make pressure to their back. A 4 4 2 formation I think would more effective against Detroit. Good luck matt for next games. You deserve a better team. Merci

Sorry bro, just more piss poor defending as a whole. No you so much but certainly that middle back. Good lord. No spacial recognition of where opposing team players are in the box. I never liked 3 in the back to begin with. You guys need a Chris Armas type stopper/destroyer in the middle somewhere and let that centerback just roam a bit and pick up long balls and missed passes.
