Ryan - my daughter and I were with you in the river, at least for a while. She was wondering why you were talking to yourself but then we figured it out. She caught a real nice rainbow spinning with a Rapala sinking lure and I caught a nice one with a Prince nymph. Looks like you had more luck that we did. I just started fly fishing this spring, and it's challenging but fun. Good tip about using Tungsten. Thanks for the video and for keeping the hooch clean.

Very cool! I always wonder whether another angler is a part of any of the GA fishing groups. I was stoked to see her hook that nice fish, I was like dang... she's better than some of my friends!! Fly fishing is a blast, if you're hooking fish you're doing good! I hope to incorporate more tips or concepts like that in my upcoming videos to provide some value to folks. I love the river so I hate to see all that junk and trash around when I want to feel isolated, if you see me out there say hey I'll show you some of my productive flies there! Thanks for watching Tim, tight lines

Enjoyed your video. Please describe your location. Always enjoy knowing where these videos are made. I live near the Chattahoochee, but I imagine I am well South of you. Keep up the great work. Thanks again 👍

Thank you for watching I greatly appreciate it! I wish I could mention specific locations more in videos, but unfortunately there are too many people who would love to wipe out my favorite spots with full stringers given the chance. After nearly 10 years of dedication to learning the river I enjoy a few spots off the beaten path and would hate for things to change drastically. I fish the Roswell area of the Hooch, you are welcome to email me for more details if you'd like. ryanhartley@comcast.net Or Instagram @madfishinskillz

It was indeed! Fished the lower part of the Tailwater, thanks for watching!

@@GoWest927 It can be hit or miss but the fishing can be great! Only downside is fewer brown trout

MadFishinSkillz if I catch and release that many on a trip I won’t be mad that I didn’t get any browns. ;)

Are you using split shot?
@madfishinskillz4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dustin, I was actually using no split shots. I was using only tungsten beaded flies which were tied with weighted bodies to help them plunge straight down even in turbulent current. I was using 6x tippet because the thinner line you use = the less surface tension there will be to slow up the sink rate of your flies. These two factors help me maintain a direct connection to my flies which helps me feel the bites and recognize twitches in my colored leader which signify a take. Split shots remove that direct connection and result in many unidentified strikes, as soon as I became comfortable with this technique my catch rate went way up!! Thanks for watching, let me know if I can better clarify anything!

What rod size and length are you using?
@madfishinskillz4 жыл бұрын
10 ft 3wt .....soft tip helps cushion as light as 7x so far! Thanks for watching!!

MadFishinSkillz thanks! How about your leader/sighter/tippet lengths?
@madfishinskillz4 жыл бұрын
@@justindavis2282 No problem! My leader is probaby about 4-5ft straight of like 2-3x line to about 2 feet of sighter. Then, I'll try to tie on enough sighter so that at max with the depth of the water my sighter will only be under a foot or so . So If the depth is 4-5 foot I'll probably have 3 1/2 of tippet. If it's that deep they will not mind a little sighter quietly passing above. This leader I've used for several months. It won't cast a dry for crap, but what it lacks in cast-ability it far makes up for in sensitivity being only several connected lines. I may switch it up to a more versatile leader soon since you have to lob this rig but right now it's working alright! Whole leader setup is likely ends up about equal to my 10ft rod maybe another foot or two plus.
