May I suggest "Constipation." The quilt that I won two blue ribbons for took so long to make that I named it the "Constipation Quilt" long before it was finished. I had to pick it apart so many times. I was determined to finish it and be done with it. The hell with following the instructions and making it look like everyone else's quilt in that class. After I finished that quilt, I put it in the quilt show out of spite. I never expected it to win a blue ribbon (two years in a row). It took a long time to get the job done on my little Patchwork Edition Bernina. I never did get the quilting finished the way I wanted it. Done is Good.

You are soooo talented at FMQ Miss Tracy! Just gorgeous. Love those roses. 🥰 You come up with the best tips and tricks. What a task having to redo the backing. I’m hoping you round the corners…I’ve never seen that done before. Such a sweet and happy quilt. Just makes me smile looking at it. Oh I almost forgot. I went to Joanne’s last night and found the double gauze backing you were talking about. It’s so so soft. Can’t wait to put it on my next quilt. 🥰

We all forget to do things sewing things sometimes. I couldn't tell you how many times I'd change my thread and start sewing only to realize I'd forgotten to thread the needle. lol Yet you trooped on and made a scrumpcious looking quilt. Your FMQ roses add the perfect touch too. (How on Earth do you know where you should sew next when doing FMQ roses...???) Just so's ya know, when you put on the Press 'n Seal, I got the giggles. It's just that I've never seen anyone "wearing" that particular product before. It's a great idea and great for a laugh too - nothing wrong with a triple duty product. I use Press 'n Seal strips to wrap around cords as well as on batting/fabric still on their rolls. It's works great for keeping things in place.

I use the Teflon mats you put in your oven to bake cookies or you can put on the bottom to clean. This would honestly eliminate any need for stretch and seal. Buy the biggest and you can tape several together. I also cut one so I put it under my needle so everything glides. Very very reasonably priced on Amazon.
@dcwatashi

I have those Teflon mats however that is not going to prevent the immense shredding of the fabric so there’s more than that reason to use the press and seal

Wow, your free motion quilting skills are incredible! Love all the hacks you've invented when quilting with a domestic, I also quilt all my huge quilts on my little sewing machine, I only have space for a tiny desk to work on, very hard work and as I can't seem to master the free motion, I always do a grid with my walking foot, and /or hand quilt them. I would love to be able to do free motion quilting well, my issue is when I do a curve, I get the eyelash effect on the back, no matter how much I slow down! And when I was practising last time on a small piece, when I finished and was trying to put feed dogs up again, the switch was stuck or something, it took me ages, and after a clank sound the feed dogs were up again and I got so worried that I'm not trying this again! I think someone is trying to tell me something!!! (Stick to the straight lines 😉)

Wow 😲, sorry that happened to you. I've come to the conclusion over the years that prewashing is worth the effort. Flannels are the worst for shrinking and Batiks need washing because if you use iron on fusible plus they bleed. Quilting cotton bleeds as well. Just listened to the sad story, my red blend into the white at the quilt shop. What can I do? So anyway I wash it all. Except precuts, I don't use them often.

I just finished polishing my Singer hand-crank this morning. The thought occurred to me that not only could you sew custom covers, but why not add a layer of wax to the covers? There is no damage to fabric going over a waxed machine bed, so mayhap it will work on the covers?

I think the worry that the good luck comment caused was unfair to you, because there is something that was not taken into account when she made that alarming comment. When you quilt, you are sewing fabric, to other fabric and other materials like batting. This by it's very nature stabilizes all the fabrics and causes an equalization of ALL the fabrics. Washing a fabric, say a flannel as a whole cloth will cause far more shrinkage than washing flannel that has been sewn to fabric(s) that naturally shrink less. Lets say that a quilting cotton will shrink 2%, and a flannel will shrink 3%... by sewing those together in a "dense" pattern of roses, the flannel will be unable to shrink the full 3 %. You will likely get the 2%, or perhaps a mid range of 2.5% vs the 3 it would shrink when it's by it's self as a whole cloth. Think of it this way. Cotton has a tensile strength, and cotton is cotton. The quilted weave is not LESS strong than cotton flannel weave or vise versa. The reason flannel shrinks more is that it's a looser weave and therefore draws in more. By combining it with the tighter weave of the quilting cotton, (which shrinks less) then it reduces the shrink/draw on the flannel. SECONDLY, you starch. Which preshrinks the fabric already. IF you starched the quilting cotton, it would not shrink or shrink less than the 2%, same for the flannel if you starched it. MOST shrink in a washed quilt is from the BATTING, not the fabrics, and shrink increased by the heat of the dryer. I think that your quilt would have turned out just fine without the panic rework based on her comment.
@TheSewingChannel

I absolutely LOVE your logic on this❣️ After reading what you said....You are probably right...I just got nervous because I really didn't want it to turn out wonky...But I do agree with your logic 100%❣️

@The Sewing Channel I've reworked things at times. And taken the risk at times. So. I understand. And with the price of fabric, batting and labor. You did what was safe. It's a beautiful quilt which is what matters.
