This is one of my favorite movies. I love how Philip Ingram (from Switch) is singing I Say a Little Prayer.

I love how this ending goes against the grain of nearly every other Hollywood romance of the time. In any other film, Julia would’ve won. But in this film, she gives up. It’s much more realistic. It’s life.

I was telling a friend about this movie and she was furious that Julia Roberts didn't get the guy. I thought it's ok to not get the guy sometimes. Michael was what she thought she wanted but she really just needed her best friend George. And you can't ask for a better best friend than one who helps you do the right thing even when you don't want to.

This sentence always gets me: "Maybe there won't be marriage, maybe there won't be sex, but by God, there will be dancing". In my interpretation, it means that maybe I won't live my life the way society expects me, and maybe not everything will go to plan, but oh yes, I'm going to live my life to the fullest.

GEORGE, as the voice of reason to Jules' emotional chaos, was my favorite character. I love when the three were running, visually playing out as the plot has done. I saw it in a movie theater when it originally came out. Cameron wasn't very famous then and it was kind of expected that Julia's character Julianne would win the guy. Great point you made that Julianne was a villain and it was told from her perspective as well as what you said about the movie and friendship. George showed up for her and they danced. Julia, Cameron and the other cast were terrific. I like the ending and would have liked if there was more of Phillip Ingram singing I Say a Little Prayer.

I remember the first time I saw this film, I shouted “Nooo!” at the ending! I was (like other people?) expecting Jules and Michael to end up together. Over time, I realise that this is actually the perfect ending. George was the first positive gay role model this 90s kid saw on film and it made an impact. Both a stark contrast to the stereotypes and happily embracing them whenever he wants in his own special way....

This is the best kind of love ❤️ here. Not always your intimate lover. But someone who is there for you and loves you no matter what. It's the love Freddie mercury and Mary had for each other till he died. If l had love like that l wouldn't need a man IMO one of the best realistic endings in a movie.

I never cry at movies. I never cry in real life. But this ending makes me cry.

This is such a sad movie. All the way through. She almost costs herself this friendship, does something terrible - and in the end, she loses the friend and (likely) the love of her life. When I saw it as a teenager, I didn't get. Now I do.
@fruzsimih7214 Жыл бұрын
No, she actually becomes more mature in the process. She nearly destroyed their friendship with her selfishness. To love someone is to want them to be happy, not to cling to them in order to satisfy her own ego.

@@fruzsimih7214 Nowhere in my comment did I indicate Lillian shouldn't get married and it's obvious she wants her friend to be married. The point is she knows the price of that is she'll see less of her friend. In real life, this is what would actually cost her the friendship, the big conflict of the movie. Your comment is so dumb and preachy and you purposefully missed the point to be stupid and preachy.

When I was little this was my favourite movie even though I didn’t understand 70% of the emotions behind it. Julia’s anxiousness, heartache and the hopelessness in some of the scenes hit so hard now when I’m nearly 30. It’s one deeply conflicting movie to me now. But beautiful no matter what.

When you think you’re about to watch a love movie, but it’s really a movie about friendship

Every part of our lives belongs to a certain best friend, Jules was obsessed with bringing Michael back but he didn’t fit in her life anymore! It was George’s time all along, the ending also explains that!!!! ❤
