That was super courageous, Mogi! Most bins shoppers are routine, so we know the rules but some people choose to cause unnecessary chaos. In general, if I have nicer pieces/name brand items, I'll roll them up and stick them deeper under items that I'm not as attached to (like the items that I'm planning to take to BST stores). I'm glad she let you look for the rest of your items, I think your calm demeanor kept the situation at bay. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Disclaimer - I’m naturally a confrontational person. I don’t mind conflict, and prefer it over stewing in unnecessary drama. I ABSOLUTELY would have confronted them. You did the right thing. You stood up for yourself, called them out, and let them know that you won’t stand for that. I think that’s especially important when you do see them all the time at your primary sourcing location. If you wouldn’t have called them out, this could have potentially turned into a repeat situation. Hopefully by standing up for yourself, they’ll leave you alone in the future. Good for you! I am also a mom to a little girl, and I always rhino to myself - what would I tell Ella to do in this scenario? I would 100% want her to stand up for herself, so bravo for doing that!

same thing happened to me the other day at the bins in SLC, someone stole a brand new pair of ariat boots, I hid them under lots of clothes, and I allways coover my cart with some sort of blanket or bedding, unfortunatley I was not able to find them, this is common at the bins, is rarely "an accident" The bins in SLC are quite small, so there is no space to walk around or have the cart nearby, I constantly have to be checking, which is annoying, if I find something oof very high value I will just keep it with me, I carry a small carry on bag with wheels for this purpose, it also helps now having items on one arm

Hi! I watched your video and learned some good new brands! I think with the white jean jacket, if you can’t get the stains out, and you’re feeling ambitious, I’ve bought fabric dye and actually tie-dyed things or dye them black. I’ve done this to a lot of stuff, and 99% of the time it will hide the stain and the item will sell. Some dyes you have to wash first and or iron them, to set the color.

I thought I watched my cart but as we were driving home my boyfriend was telling me that someone sold a rug from his cart before even checking out. Yes. Place a large sheet or large items that you don’t want on top of your stuff you want to keep. Most people you meet there are competitive and some they may take things out of other peoples cart although it usually doesn’t happen often. You can also fold your items and face them down making it harder for others to see clothing pieces in your cart.

I don't have a bins near me but I had something like this happen at the Salvation Army before several times. One time someone took my entire cart and walked off with it! I had to start all over! And I have found multiple people pulling things from my cart. I just tell them that it's my cart and to please put it down. It's really sad what people will do these days. We should be supporting each other and be happy for people when they find something good. It's not like it will be the last time to find good items. I hate that people make it feel like a competition. You did what was right! They were in the wrong.

Similar thing happened to me before at the bins except someone "accidentally" took my cart out from behind me. As soon as I realized it was gone, I went right up to one of the employees and they were able to go in the back and watch the video to see who took it. They confronted the woman and got my cart back. I got most of my items back but knew she took some off the top when she took what she just put in. I considered it a win since I got most of it back and didn't have to confront her directly!

I'm so sorry that that happened to you, I went to the bins recently and felt very self conscious about leaving my cart alone. My mom was there with me so she was able to watch it, but I can see that it could happen because there are lot of people moving around and I had a ton of stuff and I probably wouldn't be noticed if something got taken until later. I also felt like everyone treated me like I was absolutely crazy because I had 3 carts of stuff, but I process so many items and these people are looking for like, 1 bolo vintage T-shirt. I guess it's the difference between full time and part time, but they still judged me for having so many items. Where in reality it's only gonna take me 2 weeks to process all my items, but these guys are all looking at me like I'm crazy for picking up so many basics. One guy was like oh you must not be around here.. like yes I am. Another guy was like wow you're just grabbing everything, that's gonna cost you like 500 dollars.... Meanwhile I made 260 dollars in sales that day while I was at the bins plus I found 60 bucks.. My haul cost me 245 and I got a ton of high sell thru items everyone else passed on.. I feel like there is always bins drama.

Oh Mogi Beth, it's so sad that you did absolutely nothing wrong, yet are the one left with an icky feeling. It's bc those actions are so foreign to who you are. I am glad you had the confidence to confront, and while initially I would have said there were maybe less accusatory words that you could have chosen, but I would have been horribly wrong given their reaction. I always try to assume positive intent, and sometimes get burned. To me, you handled yourself with grace and maturity; and can sleep well knowing you act with integrity.
