You know, my favorite memory is with my mom. I was born in 1954, and in the late 50's early 60', in the winter when we got a heavy snow, my mom would bundle us 3 girls up in our snow suits and late at night, usually around midnight, she would take us on a walk to see the snow sparkle under the moonlight. We never worried about crime back then. After our walk, she'd make us a nice hot bowl of oatmeal and then get us ready for bed. Spending that time with my mom meant the world to me. I wish my mom was still here ( she passed in 1999), and anytime we get a heavy snow, I think back to those special times when life was carefree. We may lose the ones we love, but thank goodness for our memories. I'm glad you got the pictures of your trophy fish... great story Kevin. ❤

I think a lot about the past as well. Simpler times. Happier times that didn't involve as much gloom, doom and stress. Times when I was a little healthier, physically and mentally. People often say not to live in the past, but to look to the future. The thing is, if the future looks bleak to you, sometimes you can get some much needed comfort by reflecting on happy memories. Sure, eventually we snap out of it and find ourselves back to the present, with all the current issues, but we at least have the power to escape for a moment anyway. It's crazy how we take life for granted when we are younger, then often times as we get older we wish we could get back to those earlier times that we took for granted. My mom has a bunch of old home videos on VHS from when I was a kid. I recently got hold of a VCR and a VHS to digital converter, so I've been working on converting all those old home videos to digital so that I can watch them anywhere at anytime and share with others.

Wonderful vlog and beautiful photos of you with your big fish, Kev😃 It sure put a smile on my dial and sent me down memory lane. Best you get yourself some new line on your reel - you don't want it breaking when you're playing a rainbow! Fishing and freedom camping has featured big in our family too, but I've only fished once since my hubby was killed almost 9 years ago. My daughter has been fighting 2 types of cancer all year (🙏🏻🤞 successfully). They farm for a living but live to fish and hunt, as does her partner and their almost 5 yr old son. They got away for a few days fishing recently and my grandson was the only one in their group to bring one home for smoking. A 8.5lb rainbow - he's a strong farm lad but it was too heavy and lively for him to bring in & land but he tried hard & was rightfully so proud of himself, bless him ❤️ I'll be sure to give you as many nudges as it takes to get you out there again come your spring😃 Fishing is exciting and so good for the soul. We taught a number of disadvantaged kids to camp and fish. I often think of them and hope they've continued to do it in their adult lives. Does Bridgette fish? My first dates with first my ex husband and my late partner of 22 years, were a day out fishing😂 A Jenson Spinner is our favourite lure for lake fishing. What did you catch your biggies with?

Kevin memories is all we have left and we need to hold on to them tightly, as a young girl I remember going to bed at night and we kept our door open and never worried about anything. Life was just so carefree in those days and families was so tight knit and spent time together but those days are behind us now, I have a lot of wonderful memories as well and I had such a great childhood and I dream of going back to visit those days. Kev cherish those memories as long as you can and hold them close to your heart because those times are such a special part of our lives, thank you so much for sharing that special memory with us and God bless.

I use to go fishing a lot when I was younger and have a lot of good memories of that. My older brother use to take me fishing every weekend. Unfortunately, he passed away. I miss him a lot and those were really good times. About 2018 or 2019, I went back to lake and the spots we use to fish at. For the first time in many years. It was nice just being there again, and I think about those times every time I drive by the lake. It would be great to see you go back to some of your old fishing spots again. I remember looking at those old fishing magazines too.

I remember as a kid in early 80s when my dad was laid off we'd go camping out on river and catfish for week solid. We'd go catch our own lizard's in mountain creeks and cook hot dogs on fire while fire going at night sleeping in back of a pickup truck camper bed . I have very vivid memories of that life when we didn't have much, but we had each other and enjoyed God's outdoors. I still love to fish and hunt to this day and God willing enjoy many more trophy bucks or small mouth bass but most of all enjoy the outdoors. God bless man.

I still enjoy trout fishing in my state of Colorado and if I am alive by next spring I plan to go fishing again with my brother. However, I noticed I do not care about much other things anymore and I slowed down a lot trying to relax more than my more stressful younger years of life. We just have to enjoy every day we wake up because every day you live is a day before you die.

I feel sad for today’s youth that they are missing so much we grew up with: freedom to play outdoors, to run free in the fields and climb trees, .. to walk to school with classmates and friends, to swim off a dock, to help our parents with our backyard vegetable garden. I highly relate Kevin, I'm about 10 years older than you, 1960 model lol, and there were bad stuff happening back then, Vietnam war, Raegen vs Gorbachev in heated Nuclear standoffs but we weren't slammed with it back then as we only seen stuff on the evening News and that was it, back to the variety shows. Today, we are getting slammed with opinions on the Internet including KZbin and that's all it is, opinions, not real news as it can be edited to look like it's all real and now we've got AI, we won't know what's real vs a tube of toothpaste. I often feel for those bringing Children into this world right now, what kind of future will they have, I'm sort of glad that my family line, ends with me. My Nephew and his partner just had a baby boy 2 years ago, i think what will that little fella be doing in 2045, will there be a 2045? who the hell knows!! My Dad was also a very keen fisherman only ocean and salt water as we don't have a huge amount of freshwater like you have over there. I also remember love beach fishing with Dad wish my huge 10 foot beach rods and a huge spinner real with a bell sinker, used to catch flathead, bream, whiting and sometimes Snapper. When we had a boat, some of the snapper were near 5kg, they take a long time to grow that big, often over 20 years, a smaller snapper we call a Squire, both a great eating fish. We do have rainbow and brown trout but are introduced species from the USA, we have Bass, and we have huge freshwater Cod in the upper river systems. Like you, i've got my fishing gear up against a wall, the spiders have taken over mine, no fun now both parents are gone because my Mum enjoyed it as much as Dad, they would go to a holiday place in their caravan, catch their own live bait and then go fishing. I remember as a kid catching little poddy mullet on bread dough, they ended up as bait. I could write a book on the fishing adventures we did. Dad and his Brother used to go fishing up the coast, and he'd come home with a cooler box with about 12 Months worth of fish to eat, scaled, beheaded and cleaned ready for the freezer or pan. Them days are over, I do kind of wished I had a son I could teach all that stuff to but alas....never happened. Even though we're in a different Country, how about we get our shit happening, clean up and get our gear ready and go fishing and even if you end up in Iowa, I'm sure there'd be fishing somewhere around there, maybe even one of Bridgett's relatives might be looking for someone to go fishing with.......who knows!!

all so true. i am thankful to have grown up decades ago when life was simple. i know we all just heard of the lady whose son was simply walking down the road to their small town.... and the mom got in trouble. yet, for many of us, we walked about a mile to our schools. no one thought anything of it, nor were we afraid someone would snatch us up. my hubs and i choose to watch the movie Christmas Story this time of year to be able to remember what life was like for us growing up. they really did do a good job in that movie showing what family life was like back then. so just agreeing w/you.... gotta find your own way of dealing w/this negative crap and all of the entitlement that is surrounding us... and for sure joining w/AI is one of the worst things we could do. may His peace be upon you, and may He light your path each day.

Alright man, where to start... when you mentioned about your fishing gear sitting around for years I had just came back from the garage and while there I was looking at all my fishing gear and the boat that hasn`t been used for years and I knew I had to comment to you for the first time. I have noticed our lives have sort of ran parallel at times, we seem to share quite a few of life experiences. Playing old vinyl from the 60s 70s and 80s has always been a go to stress reliever for me. So, that all said, I want you to know that you and yours are in our prayers. Together we can do this!

Awesome video Kevin‼ I can relate... My most memorable experiences were about fishing with my Dad and spending hours with him. Every summer, we would go to Grandma's cottage (his Mom) on the St. Lawrence River. And other times, a couple of friendly experienced fishing guides would take us to the best spots in the province of Quebec and cooked, for us, our freshly caught trout on an open fire. 🐟🐟 Yum! And my Dad (like yours) was a really good fellow. Everyone loved him. And he always had a way to make you feel special. At the end of his life, he ended up (like yours) in a wheelchair👨🦽as both of his legs had to get amputated. However, he always remained positive. We miss him dearly and I do hope that someday, I can see him in heaven. Wishing you good luck, Kevin, with your fishing 🎣. Looking forward to your videos and maybe, perhaps, you could cook us a virtual shore lunch🔥with your fish? Take great care P.S. Fred and I should get back into it, as well, in the spring. Fishing is a great past-time! 😄

I was born in 52, I use to do the same thing. All of the magazines would say the secret to catching the big ones and I would read them cover to cover trying to find out that secret. I hope you make it back to the good times, ever once in a while. Take care

So interesting Kevin. Relating to ticks: did you ever witness the grass burn off that was common years back? It may have been before your time or in maybe just a rural setting. I'm thinking it may have been done because of ticks or grubs, in order to "steralize" the soil, so to speak. Its wise and a gift from God I believe, to be so thankful for our parents or grandparents, and the memories we have. I am older than you, and I can't tell you how many times I wish I could go back too. But the best is yet to come: "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.". 1 Corinthians 2:9
