Love the pot! Anything Roman is fascinating to me. When I was a kid ( long long time ago, lol) we lived near the Ridgeway, a roman road, and we dug up a Roman coin in our garden. So exiting to find stuff like that.

Congratulations Si! So very pleased for you. There aren't many viewer experiences better than seeing someone have a dream come true. All the better as, through watching your escapades on KZbin these past few years, I almost feel as if I know you. Just as long as finding this doesn't mean you'll scale back your treasure hunting and you keep the videos coming. Sundays are pretty dull normally (every day is pretty dull in the Scottish lockdown right now) but the Sunday videos from yourself and Nicola White make the day more bearable. So thanks for that and well done again!

Mr. Tumshie, that’s an interesting handle. I would like to say, “Here, here!” On that remark to Si finds. I only found him, and Nicola when we went into lockdown (here in Melbourne, Oz.). All I seem to want to do now is watch you tube these days. I wonder what I missed in the previous few years. But at least I’m glad I have found them now. By the way, they are the best two out there as well.

Wow, just WOW. What a find. I have to admit watching this every time you were handling that Roman pot I was nervous as hell it would break, I was so relieved when the video ended and it was still looking great. Holding that in your hand must feel so special, think of everything it has been through in 2000 years and it's still here...if only it could talk, the tales it could tell...sends my imagination into a spin. @@Sifinds No thank you for keeping a granny entertained and educated during a very boring time stuck at home for weeks. I would love to come to London and explore the shore but have to be happy down in the ancient kingdom of Wessex. My son has just got a really good metal detector so maybe soon I will be able to go out and find some goodies. My dream find would be anything from the time of Alfred the great, I am fascinated by that era so even a bit of broken pot would make me feel like I had struck gold. I love watching what you do with your finds too, you and Nicola White are my favourites x

Beautiful find! Interesting that the burnishing technique was/is used by the first nation people in the Southwest, US.
@sinnombre-xs9ub4 жыл бұрын
E.W., Clearly you are familiar with pottery of the Southwest . Did the hole in that pot put you in mind of the Mimbres (among others) who would put a “kill hole” in a vessel before an interment? There are just a few examples of this in Roman burials. Just seemed to me to be a rather careful, deliberate hole as it didn’t break the pot.
