Thanks Chas, for all the really good, critical tips for a technique that is often given little more than a passing nod. Fact is you GOTTA do it every cast. Every one. I've caught a number of fish that have come in blind, never seen 'em follow, yet a good first turn or a well executed full eight (or two) gets 'em. Please forgive my adding a few additional details to your 101... Depth change is one that is not often used by casual fisherman. If I really need a fish I know is there, a depth change can make the difference. I'm talkin' sometimes I'm on my knees with an 8 - 9 foot rod submerged up to the reel making depth changes measured in feet instead of inches. You wouldn't believe the fish I've caught clear at the bottom of the reach of my rod. Last thing, if you've actually seen a fish come in and you want/need to catch it, don't give up easily. You've done the hard work: found a fish, got it to move, gotten it right to the boat... I'm a persistent "eighter", sometimes into literally dozens of reps plus. And yes, I've been deep into a couple dozen or so before that fish finally hits. Give 'em the chance to see a lot of stuff, maybe they need to reposition and get a good look at what they were chasing in the first place and decide to crush it. Sometimes you don't even see the fish following the whole time except that you got it right to (or almost to) the boat. No matter. Give 'em a proper opportunity to get what you want them to have.

Probably the most important aspect of a successful musky technique. Change of direction, change speed, change of depth. Some claim 50% of their hits come in the figure 8 Keep this vital information coming Thanks

Good tips and video, thanks! I think the fact that these crazy fish will follow a figure-8 around a few times and maybe bite and maybe not is one of the unique things that makes this fishing for them so addictive and so magical/maddening.

Great tips! How much line do you have out when going into the 8?
@MuskyMastery3 ай бұрын
Thank you! Only a "leader's" worth of line. About 1 ft
