I've had my Stomp for three years now and it's only in the last three weeks that I downloaded a preset which woke me up to how good the Stomp can sound. I've never made my own Stomp presets mainly due to my low concentration levels due to chronic fatigue. But these Stomp tips are always useful as are the ones by Scott Uhl.

HX Stomp/Stomp XL users, you can save a block (and possibly some DSP) by using the combined Amp+Cab block and changing the Litigator's default Cab to the 4x12 Cali V30 (though now that I think about it I think it is already set at the 4x12 Cali?) and set it the Cab portion as John has his individual Cab set up here in Helix Native.

Lol I was looking at a video of yours about creating good lead tones from about a year ago earlier this morning. Time to see if anything has changed.

Thanks, but could you also make a vid about creating solid rythm tones with low to mid-gain? The kind of tones you use a lot when in a coverband? They tend to disappear in the mix or sound real thin or shrill.

Unless the guitar part is iconic to the song, I find disappearing in the mix as a rhythm guitar player isn't the worst thing in the world. As long as the guitar is filling out space and creating sonic movement, the vox, drums and bass will carry the gig as they rightfully should!

On David Grissom's "Keep a Rollin' On," listen to both the rhythm guitar that starts and the lead. They have a kind of "raggedy" sound. The sounds from modelers tend to sound smooth and civilized but sometimes I like "raggedy." Can you get this kind of sound from a modeler like Helix?
@jnh7310 ай бұрын
Yes, and the key particularly with David's playing style is that his pedals go into a single channel amp without an effects loop that's set to be pretty dirty when the guitar's volume is up full. All versions of the Helix (Floor, LT, Stomp XL, and Stomp) sound great in this scenario provided you adjust the Mix of effects like delay so the echo trails aren't distorted. Or, if that doesn't float your boat, you can put delays and reverbs after the Amp and keep drives and boosts going into the front of the Amp.

I hear a downtuned/baritone guitar with a sharp, cranked distortion pedal being recorded with no mic low cut. The smoothed-out tones from less expensive modelers usually comes from conservative default mic low/high cut settings; the Helix lets you set these anywhere you want, so any form of raggedy is possible..

John plays less jazz than he used to, saying it’s hard to live that 100 miles an hour, win at all costs lifestyle when you’re a dad.

Could you do the same video with the Hotone Ampero Stomp please??

Do these types of tones work in a band situation? I don't mean an instrumental band or anything like a typical rock band with vocals / keyboard etc? Obviously they sound good on their own at home :D

If it's just you, drums and bass 💯 but keys or another guitarist get in the way sometimes unfortunately, depends on who you're playing with too but in my experience you need a significant boost and more treble to cut through, not everyone has the awareness to play less when you're trying to solo lol
