I love wardrobe organisation!! About 15 months ago, I did the KonMari method. It was transformational. I got the thin velvet hangers with hooks. I also got the skirt and pant hangers with hooks. I put one item per hanger and stack them. That way I use vertical space. I only have about 7 hangers vertically but each hanger holds between 3 - 7 items depending on weight. I can see things at a glance. I also got the clear plastic shoe boxes. The uniformity and transparency is a double whammy!! I can easily stack them and can see what's inside. When I was getting this organised, I also got an OOTD hook. I plan my outfit the night before and it's great to have that already sorted. I also got a scarf hanger. I fold each scarf and hang them on the flat rod. Each rod can come out when I need to get an individual scarf. I find that the best way as it is pre-ironed and ready for wearing. For years I have packed away my out of season clothes and now I only have my current season in my wardrobe. I usually do that seasonal changeover twice a year, but as I have so much time on my hands lately, I did a mid season changeover. Now, I can honestly say that now when I open my wardrobe door, my heart leaps with joy. The inside of my wardrobe is a sight to behold. I literally feel like I am shopping my closet. it is definitely worth the time and money to invest in sorting it out. Thanks for sharing your tips, Erin. I learn something from you everytime. I will download that checklist.

I use pool noodles from the dollar store for boots. I don’t precut them, put the noodle in your boot, mark how tall it needs to be, then cut it for that pair. Custom fit. Nothing beats velvet hangers. I find that wooden pant hangers work better for me than plastic ones because the metal clips keep getting mixed up with their neighbors and snagging other clothing.

I use canvas hanging bags for my most worn shoes like the shoes I wear to work, sandals, and tennis shoes. They can be hung from a closet rod or from under a shelf with slats and only take up about 5 inches. There are 10 slots in each bag, and you can put multiple pairs of small shoes in each hole. They can also be used to store other small items.

Love having shoes in bins! As a compulsive labeler 🤣 I also label those shoe bins. I make the paper as large as the end of the bin and print the shoe description fairly large, all in the same font. Then I use clear packing tape to tape it inside the bin. The uniform white paper/cardstock with black printing appeals to me more than shadowy shoe shapes. Also, I *can* remember what’s in each bin, but I don’t want to.

By then I was stress eating...so all the smaller clothed my family and friends bought me or gave meare going to our church outreach. I am going to use your tips to do a better closet organization. I need so many organization tips. I don't have the $$$ and space like you do as I'm single and don't live in a house but you do have many useful tips. I probably need a professional organizer but can't afford one. I moved back east, it's ridiculously cold most of the year, we can't wear heels most often but need them for special occasions and in better weather. It's time for me to give things away but heres a dilemma, I'm large busted and tall, I have a hard time finding clothes that fit properly especially in the lighter colours that I like, the seasons and seasonal storage is probably one of the most difficult things and my condo is so full it's embarrassing. I used to travel a bit, like to look nice which means I need a decent wardrobe. Can you please do a video on how to down size and purge unnecessary items. I become attached to some of the items I have because of what I spent and the fact that I don't want to buy it again and can't afford it. I'm really nervous to do this especially at this time of the Covid 19 world. Thanks Erin.

Hi Erin. I just watched your video today. It’s crazy, everywhere I hear we have more time on our hands now, but I actually have less! Lol...I’m still working full time, plus home schooling and on top of that moving and organizing my new home. That’s right, I just moved in the middle of all this mayhem. Which makes these videos extremely useful. I already employ many of the tips you suggest, color coding my clothes, the shoes facing different directions...or I least I used to in my old closet. I used to have shelves and had my shoes neat and organized like that. In my new closet I still haven’t found a solution for my shoes. I don’t have an ancillary closet and I can’t put shelves because we are renting. I looking for a solution that would be practical and easy to move because in a year or so we will probably be moving again 🤦🏼♀️ seriously considering bins. I just want some that are stackable and lock together for easy moving and are sturdy and not crazy expensive. Quite a lot of requirements 😅

It can be very hard. If you are having trouble try taking some of the pieces that you are unsure about and storing them somewhere other than your closet. Then revisit theses items in a few months. The idea of tiny/small for many americans is so out of reality for most people in the world! Many just have 1 normal built in or movable wardrobe, or none! I see so many people call small or tiny, to spaces that for many are a privilege. I think that it is demonstrative of the unreal and unfair america ideal of greatness ( and im not including real tiny houses)! Not a personal critic anyways, just pointing facts. That apart, i just found your videos ( from Portugal ) , and i like your work and tips.

It all depends...100 is just a rule of thumb and would be the max. Less is better because it's less crowded and easier to see what you have ! xo

Have you had any trouble with the plastic shoe bins? They do t breathe and I’ve had soles disintegrate. Wish I had hung onto the cardboard shoeboxes! I have poked holes in the plastic boxes for air circulation but they can crack when you do that.

Mary Roberts good point! I use plastic shoe bins but have never had that problem. Perhaps I’ll pull out my drill & bits or use a heated ice pick to make some holes in them.

A good motivator to clean out your closet would be, if you are needing someone to grab up a shirt out of your closet to bring to you to let say the hospital or work, and they have the tendency to grab up the craziest thing that you haven't worn in 4 years and bring it to you to work or the hospital. And then you have to be seen wearing this shirt before you go home and and throw it in the garbage. Trust me, and if it's not in season don't let it be in your closet where it can be found easy, stuff it in the back, men have a weird way of finding something "pretty" for you ware.

Great tips except the under bed bins. I can’t stand having anything under the bed.

Omg $298.00 US dollars for an 85 page book? WOW

This is not the accurate price that we set for the book, and it's actually no longer in production. We have tried and tried to have it removed from Amazon - with no luck, and I apologize for the confusion. BUT...I did release a brand new style course to help make it easier to get dressed every single day! It has the same name, but it is full of so much more than this original guide. You can take a look at it right here to see if this is something that's right for you: erin-busbee-1ce9.mykajabi.com/style-made-simple-youtube
