Hey Euge, Great video. Thanks for sharing your personal experience with us. I know what you mean about large guitar rigs and the logistics problems. By 1995, I had a huge refrigerator effects rack, separate racks for 100 watt heads , spares heads, etc., etc. I toured Europe in the mid 90's I had a huge revelation during one tour when my transformers malfunctioned and I could not use my equipment that was 120 volts American. It kept blowing the stage lights fuses on stage at the venue (SCHUUR). I played through JCM 800 borrowed from a local music store that night and one 4×12, dry and chained to a small 20' cable. Scared to death, I played my best show of the tour that night. Since that time, my rig has gotten progressively smaller and smaller. These days, I no longer tour but I do play in a classic rock/60's - 2000's cover band around L.A./Orange County now for fun. I use only a DSL40 combo and pedal board with 4 pedals, 1 of which is a tuner and the same SD-1 I bought in 1988? It's barely still yellow. I tell myself, I wish I could get away with an even smaller rig and now you have given me some ideas to experiment with. I think that's fantastic. Thanks for the video and I hope all is well in your life. Peace bro.

That was great! I have not tried the direct-board setup yet, but it is intriguing! I think having the small board with the cab and power amp sim, into the PA is a great option for travel, and small gigs.....The convenience and low travel cost make this a simple decision. But, as someone who grew up with cabinets, I am married to the sound of cabs blasting away, an feeling air on my legs....... :)

Thanks! And not just small gigs, I’ve played with the same setup in small venues, big theaters, icehalls, huge outdoor festivals etc. but I hear ya. I miss that too sometimes ’cos I toured 20 years all over the world with a good ol’ 100 watt Marshalls and 4x12 cabs 😎.

Damn! That was impressive. As a Kemper user, I downsized my pedalboard and amps specifically for live use. I should look into this kind of option as a backup because I am always concerned that my Kemper might go down on me. The sounds are a bit different from the pedalboard to the amps, and between the amps, but it still sounds great. Actually the pedalboard solution seems more 'pre-mixed' to fit into a full mix already. That's a huge time saver.

@@EugeValovirta230V I hear ya!! The kemper is much simpler that most. Axe FX is a nightmare. But you can profile all your great amps on kemper and have them ready. Далее boss digital delay (stereo) + boss digital reverb (stereo). Дальше либо эмуляция кабинетов (line 6 hx stomp) и это уходит в микшер, либо return малогабаритных живых усилителей и микрофоны. Звучит неплохо. Но я постоянно экспериментирую. Спасибо за ваши видео.

I had a BE-OD for a short while but felt quite underwhelmed. My amp has plenty of mids but using the BE-OD into the clean channel missed a ton of low mids so I couldn't get my roaring rhythm sounds out of it. The pedal screams well but I felt I need something far more guttural. Maybe I'll try a Wampler Triple Wreck or Dracarys or som SLO based thing next.

thanks for the good presentation! I only have one thing to ask you! Could you get that PANCH 5150 and the live rig you used at live gigs with that Fredman pedal! I mean by adding other parameters or did you solve it by ear to get the color of the tone that you like to fit in MIX! Everything you played is very Thoughts in the colors of the tones are very well balanced! and you are right IF YOU HAVE A BAD SOUND CHANGE AMPLIFIER! Because that is the color of the TONE! RESPECT!

Hi Milan, I’m not sure what you exactly mean but I dial sounds using only my ears and you heard on the video how it sounds 😎👌. The sound comes mostly from the players hands so if someone sounds bad I usually advice to practise a bit more ’cos if your playing (=sound) sucks no gear in the world won’t make it sound good 👍.

It is funny how you appear to respond to the low end chug of the Friedman pedal in a way that reminds me of the chug from a BOSS Metal Zone. It's something that I find myself wanting from a tube amp, but it doesn't happen easily until the tube amp is cranked up, boosted, etc. Even then... maybe NOT ENOUGH to equal that transistor sound from the Boss MT-2, or maybe your Frieman pedal here.

Awesome setup and sounds! everything is really interesting, the ampless rig & the effects! very nice, simple, and effective selection! 10/10. You are a clever man. Another very informative video, Euge! Q: If you could only take one guitar on the road with you (ok, with a backup of course lol) which one would it be? Watching your videos I'm thinking one of the Tokai's? Re the A/B clips. This is great for all the guys out there chasing the dragon for more than what they need to. That relatively inexpensive compact rig compared to a Kemper for eg just goes to show what's available now compared to when me and of course yourself got into this. It's mind blowing. The first "redbox" I bought in the 90s for simulating a cab was so awful I only used it for like 10 mins and it cost me $100 back then. I'm on a very decent monitoring chain with Dynaudio monitors and Dangerous Audio DA and honestly, you really have to listen fairly hard to hear a quantitative difference. The 5150 as expected had more of that meat and roundness in the low mids and played so well with the bass in the track that you would expect and you could notice it more on that low F for that cool 'vowlly' sound (don't know how to explain lol) but c'mon, so close! Lastly, I hope a lot of your younger fans really appreciate that they have a seasoned pro out there that is more like a mentor than a rock star just going off. I'm an old guy that's been around a lot of great players but your humbleness is so refreshing! I'm obviously a fan!

Hey Euge ! Glad I found your channel ! Your sound with the be-od is what i’m after for home use ! I am trying to figure out how to make it work at home ... The econoclast is just a speaker emulator right ? So in this setup there aren’t any tubes involved ? I am trying to determine if I put a be-od in front of a clean solid state amp (boss katana) I would get a similar or at least close tone ? Thanks !!
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Glad to hear! It’s a speaker emulator but also much more ’cos it replaces the power amp, cabinet, speaker and microphones mic’n the speaker so all you need is that as the last thing after your pedals like I have. And from the Iconoclast the signal could go to audio interface, mixer, active speakers etc. ; whatever you want 👌😎. No tubes involved. Katana is an amp which has it’s own characteristics so you most likely won’t get Katana to behave/sound like Iconoclast but you can make Iconoclast sound basically like anything. Or at least really close like I showed on my video comparing it to my big studio rig with 5150 & JCM800.

Thanks! I hardly use cabs nowadays but a reactive load & IRs or the Neunaber Iconoclast. But the speakers I’ve used the most during the years are probably Celestion V30s. And Eminence P50Es which are on my Fryette Fat Bottom cab. Those are kinda like a mix of V30s & Greenback 25s which I’ve used also. And some others I can’t remember but those aforementioned the most. And cab wise the Fryette, Marshall, ENGL & an oversized Mesa. My signature IR ’Valovirtuous’ from Jens Bogren’s ’Lead & Clean’ IR pack is based on an oversized Mesa w/ V30s. It works on everything and not just Leads. I wanted to have like a good general IR that is ”set & forget” - type of thing and that’s what I’ve basically done 😊.
