My Biggest Concerns with Book 9.5 (Keeper of the Lost Cities)

I severely slept on book 8.5 in this book despite the fact that I had plans for an entire paragraph about it lol Book 8.5 and Book 9.5 are hardly comparable because book 8.5 had so much extra and fun stuff inside it and book 9.5 is...just a book also, as much as I like book 8.5, if Kotlc wasn't my current hyper fixation (and it was even more when I found out about it lol) I might have accidentally skipped it lolllll Shannon, your .5 books need a better approach- /j Please be respectful in the comments! Love this video! Your thoughts are so well put together, I think you said everything I was thinking about the book. There is hope for the fandom - when I was 13 I was obsessed with Keefe, now at 16 I've come to see the flaws in both him and the fandom. Hopefully the others will come around.

HIIII! AGAIN! I finished watching the video and have some stuff to say 1. I found it really funny when you were angry ranting and then there’s just the most stunning art of Calysta being made. The shading on that is so pretty!!! 2. I feel like book 9.5 is most definitely a side book, and people have the right to feel disappointed somewhat, but I personally am totally chill with it. I myself only got into KOTLC like the year Stellarune came out, so I just sped read all the books and didn’t have to wait lol. In list of series, KOTLC went pretty low on book priority’s after I started reading more books so I’m fine with filler books. 3. I am gonna be OPTIMISTIC!!! As a person who sees all of Keefe’s flaws, I am still excited for this book. 1, because even if the fandom overhypes Keefe, the fandom isn’t there when I’m reading the book, so it’s only my opinion that matters✨✨ 2, an elf’s perspective in the human world would be super cool (even if Fitz’s would’ve been better) 3, it’s a book so I’m not complaining lol 4. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, KEEFE IS NOT THAT HOT! Then again, I guess Sophie said that all the elves were hot, BUT THATS BESIDES THE POINT!! I ship sokeefe, but I don’t obsess over Keefe. 5. Again, I don’t check instagram or twitter and the only reason why I’m caught up on KOTLC is because of videos like yours and Kat’s community posts. So, in reality, I’m not going to let people ruin the book for me even if the book isn’t good 6. YOUR ART IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! All right, that’s it. It's interesting too how book 8.5 was UNlocked and this is UNraveled. I assume it was on purpose but it just feels a bit weird and silly to me. And honestly? I didn't like Unlocked. It was like my second least favorite book next to Legacy. Actually, I may have liked it less than Legacy. And I feel like this book will make be the same but instead of being mostly about Keefe it'll be 100% about Keefe and while Unlocked at least gave us new info, this one won't give us any... I am very nervous so Shannon had better prove me wrong.

I'm not sure what to think, it might just be marketing, but I don't think that SHANNON of all people would be putting out another .5 book without a reason. I still really like Keefe, and I think that there might be something in the book that he thinks will hurt Sophie so he's holding back, or doesn't know how to explain. I agree with you on some of it, like Fitz getting too much hate, and Keefe getting whinier, but I think that's mostly because he's been opening up to Sophie more about his feelings, so we're getting a peek of it too. I also agree that the whole "Foster Feels" slogan is just . . . seriously? Out of a whole dictionary, you had to choose that? Also, with the whole "marketing" thing, it might not be what you think because she had a whole entire child and could be really busy and trying to work on the book at the same time, children make you busy, so that might be why it's part of a .5. Anyway, thank you for reading my opinion and your video was very insightful, I hope you have a blessed rest of your day!

@@livnlavidamomma the thing is, I truly think Shanon would do it, not to market it, but just to stall. She said that book 9.5 will be a required book to understand book 10, but as a writer, I think she just needs to make the plot less complicated lol I truly believe there is a clear difference between being whinny, and opening up. As much as I like Shannon’s writing, she should have written it better so that there was such a clear differentiation, that no one would even question if he was whinny. I know, right? I fully understand that it might be a stretch-it just leaves a bad feeling in my gut. My friend Jude had the same feeling, and when she put it into words, I thought it would be a good idea to put it in the video with my own opinion. I understand as well that a child can make you busy (and apparently she has two? I have no idea where the second one came from lol), but this part of your comment confuses me. She is busy with her child…so she decides to write an entirely separate book when she could be working on book 10? So the child will take up her time writing book 9.5, and then when that is over, take up her time writing book 10? When, instead, they could be just taking up her time writing book 10? I’m sorry if that was confusing. I was just wondering why you think that, considering book 9.5 is a full blown book with 400+ pages. It isn’t going to be like book 8.5 where it has artwork and all the extra things, it will just be a book about Keefe’s journey to the human word. Thank you for reading all this as well!!! Hi, I'm here to give my opinion on volume 9.5. To be honest, I wasn't expecting anything special, as we already know what happened in volume 9. However, I'm going to read it instead because I've been reading KOTLC since volume 5 came out (I started in seventh grade and I'm now in higher education😅) and I'm a bit -a lot- of a fan of this book. I read it not just for the character but to find out about his mentality and the consequences of his actions when he's left with powers he hasn't yet mastered. So that's not going to stop me reading it. And this way, I'll be able to keep myself busy before volume 10 (I'm sick of this clinfanger). Anyway thanks for this video and those information (even if you know anything, i know)

Apologies for how late I am! I just got Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and have been playing it for most of the day. I'm... torn on how I feel about this book. On one hand, a new KOTLC book? From my favorite character's POV? With an extra chapter featuring Ch. 42 FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE? SIGN ME UP On the other hand... it really is starting to feel like Shannon's stalling. What about Keefe's human world adventures could honestly need an entire novel to explain? A great example in my opinion of a series that uses its novellas and side stories to flesh the world and characters without making them required reading is Folk of the Air. I could totally read the whole series without once picking up "A Trip to the Impossible Lands," as it has no bearing on the story, but I chose to. I don't HAVE to read Cardan's letters, but because they add to Cardan's character (and because I feel like inflicting emotional pain on myself) I choose to. its all about the choice in my opinion, which Shannon is taking away here. I want to trust Shannon, but after the let down of a lifetime that was most of Stellarlune, it's not that easy. I'm... holding out hope? Best I can say is ill give it a shot. I mean, already pre ordered it a few months ago so not like I can just not read it. (also yes, KOTLCs pacing is a disaster, and I am becoming increasingly convinced I should think more about that KOTLC rewrite I've been pondering for awhile. other characters deserve arcs and focus. and im glad I'm not the only one who thought the foster feels line felt... wrong?) On a more positive note, great video essay! Excellent work, especially on the art! And I definitely appreciate the EPIC in the background :3 apologies for the extra long comment, I had a lot to say 😅
