Problem with RV repair generally is a lack of knowledge and training. Thank you for helping these folks…

That is so sad that this happened. I hope the shop has learned from their mistake. James, thank you for keeping these issues in front of us so we can be reminded of what to look for. Hope to meet you when I come through the middle of May 2025.

We are all learning James just as long as we own up to our mistakes as we are learning and make it right with the customer.

My parents had a Winnebago Chiefton in the early 70's. I remember the salesman pointing out that not only were Winnebagos built with steel framing in their walls, ect., but they also had "roll bars" that made them stronger and safer than the competition. There were two of them visible inside the interior right next to the walls and ceiling that added reinforcement. I think they were welded steel square tubing with a vinyl covering. Then there was the drop test where they picked up a motorhome with a crane, hoisted it 3 feet into the air and dropped it on its roof. They sometimes used that in their advertising. All of their appliances were attached to the steel wall framing with steel brackets too. I thought Winnebagos were so good. To think they went from that to no framing in the roof at all!! Between your videos and Liz Amazing I have learned a lot. Please keep these excellent videos coming. I'm sure they help out a lot of people and entertain the rest of us!

Excellent video James. We’ve owned a number of motorhomes since the mid 1980’s. We had a NEW 1996 class C Winnebago and over 10 years, never had a roof issue, just the normal sealant check and repair . Fast forward to our 2022 class A Winnebago. We truly enjoyed the coach for three years, liked the quality but hated the roof! I’ve watched and learned from your videos. Living in Arizona, I don’t know if it is the more extreme heat we’ve had but I’ve had constant roof sealant repairs. No leaks but constantly resealing the roof radius. I gave up! Just traded it in for an Entegra class C. Thank you for your videos. I wish Winnebago watched them.

James, you are true superstar! I am in desperate need of a “James” over here in north Florida, trying to solve an HWH slide issue, you did a video a few mos ago. Hopefully I can get it done! Thank you for what you do in the effort to help with these RVs..

Yikes!!! Honestly,...what I've learned by watching your videos or roofs, and of course other repairs, I've gotten better at what I do. Now,.... With that said, most repair techs (be it RV or Automotive) usually stay, "I can do it all". When I was much, much younger I admitted to an interviewer that I did not know about transmission repairs, but I would be willing to learn. I got the job because I was honest. Repairs of many types require knowledge, and often knowledge based on failures, and the experience they bring. As a RV repair novice, your expertise ha helped a lot. Keep it up.

Probably learn how to do this myself I find cost to pay someone to repair anything these days is too much. If I mess it up I probably can do it a few more times still cheaper then paying someone. I also learn a new skill which I like doing because it's better then sitting on day watching KZbin.

I just found your channel a day late. I have a 2003 24' Minnie Winnie I bought in 2007 and was up on the roof, didn't know about inspecting the edges of the roof, no damage to the roof, no leaks, still in great shape. I just noticed stuff was missing along the edge in the groove. I cleaned it out good, got a big syringe and injected flex seal liquid "clear", up to the top of the channel the whole length on both sides, anyway it turned out nice. Now I watched you do it and realize I probably used the wrong stuff. Should I worry or just keep inspecting and redo it when it needs it? Thanks.

Have you ever researched one piece FRP based RV roof replacements manufactured by Crane Composites? I am curious of the cost difference both material and labor wise between your per project costs and the per project cost of a Crane Composites Filon Flexroof. I'm thinking from your standpoint as an installer, a one piece could potentially save you time per project so you can do more projects per season.
@AZExpertАй бұрын
I find FRP to get burnt and cripsy much easier than filon.

I looked at a Winnebago ultimate advantage once and the guy who was selling it claimed he worked at Winnebago when they were made and he swore that there was structure in the high end models like the ultimate advantage, have you ever had to do one of those? I’m curious if he was telling the truth…

The end caps are missing as it is critical to remove both endcaps front and rear to install a new roof that will remain stretched and thoroughly sealed for 10 years or longer.

Why not a boat bottom, ether epoxy or 3m 5200 . With luan and fiberglass cloth and epixy.. A forever roof .epoxy.
@danrandall794Ай бұрын
Three decades boater and I to have been surprised how they just don't copy from the boat world or other worlds for that matter. 5200 is a great sealant and works below the water line. Shocked at Dicor and other products for sealant. Boats have hatches and you don't see the mess of goo like RV's. Millions of bus roofs out in the world that don't leak so hey maybe copy them? When something is a crap design it is hard to repair correctly. Thank goodness for people like our host here!!!

You would think that with all these crap roofs out there over the years that the mfg’s would come up with better quality roofs like a school bus. People would pay extra. I know I would. Rediculous. Who wants a roof that’s good for 10 years when you pay as much as a house for them
@AZExpertАй бұрын
Winnebago hasn't changed designs since 1998, I doubt they see reason to start now. Unfortunately, most RVers do not really shop by quality or build.

I hope these people sue the shop that did this work. ETA: Never mind. Glad to hear they didn't have to pay for the shoddy work.

It’s Winnebago’s roof design that’s causing it to sag more than an 1”. The fix is Extra bracing roof wasn’t engineered right from the beginning. Only a few shops do this type of specialty repairs!! Still needs curbs everywhere.
