I gave birth to my little guy at home, but we didn’t know he had DS, and I’m kind of glad because I probably would have been scared to have him at home 😅… mine also nursed but the first 18 hrs. were rough because even though he latched at first he then had trouble with it and I didn’t know why at the time, he was born at night and I was so tired that didn’t pay much attention to how he looked, it was in the morning the next day when I started to notice something was different but I didn’t know what, after much thinking and praying about it I realized he had DS, worst day of my life, but I got over it, he’s 5 now and such a delight… your little girl is adorable 🥰 congratulations!

I never heard the saying "what gets them in, gets them out" and I have 3 daughters also. 2 are adults with kids of their own and my middle child is pregnant now with her 2nd. I went into labor with my middle daughter the same way you weren't into labor and within 7 hours she was out. My 8 year old daughter was born via emergency c-section and we both almost passed. She was in the NICU for 7 weeks. I think your daughter is so precious. I refused testing for DS because I knew I'd love my baby regardless of if she had DS or anything else. I was so upset I didn't get to birth her the same way as my first 2. My first 2 I had without any issues and zero pain needs. You're a rockstar Mama, just take care of that precious little girl along with your awesome family.

She’s such a happy girl! I’m thankful your birthing experience was so uneventful in regards to things that could’ve gone wrong. It’s a beautiful story though cause a precious soul was brought into this world. She was showing you from the start that you got this! Ugh I can’t believe you gave birth without A/C. So glad she’s eating so well. As a Speech Language Pathologist I’ve worked with several little ones who have Ds that required quite a bit of feeding therapy. I’ve worked with ages birth to elderly, with people of all abilities, with simple to complex needs, & to this day people who have Ds are my favorite group to work with. I absolutely loved working with adults that have it at their place of employment. Honestly one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. I laughed so much cause they know how to have a good time 😂 I miss them! Ok I’ll stop reminiscing lol I’m so excited to watch Winnie’s journey & the rest of your family too!

I think your videos can be very helpful, i remember going through my pregnancy with lots of fear, the talks with genetist and a lot of question never answer.. i had a lot of health problems in that period but i was so lucky that i gave birth to an healty baby! By the way it is normal to be afraid of what we dont know.. so if we open our mind and get to know every human being we can elaborate and realize that different is not necessarily bad 😊

Are you able to make a video about breastfeeding and how Down syndrome affected breastfeeding if atall? My son has low muscle tone and really struggled
@kimberlyharvey125 Жыл бұрын
This is probably the best comment I've gotten so far because it makes me so happy that someone is enjoying our story so much that they want to see more from me, thank you so much🥹 I would love to touch base on this topic in the future, but I don't feel like I am ready to yet because we are def still struggling over here as well. I have been breastfeeding since day 1 but it has been a difficult journey for sure. She has had a strong suck since day 1 so I feel like she has "moderate" muscle tone in those muscles at least. Latching was difficult during every feed in the beginning but once she got the latch down, the suck was already perfected. She was never recommended speech/feeding therapy since she appears to feed well. That all being said, she is very tiny for her age, even on the down syndrome growth chart. She is in the 2nd percentile. She was 11 lbs at her 6 month check up. So, I am not sure if that is due to feeding issues or something else. But once I feel like we have this whole breastfeeding thing 100% working for both of us, I would love to share❤️
@baxterbunch Жыл бұрын
@@kimberlyharvey125 it’s amazing that she’s getting the hang of it and has been able to establish breastfeeding without any therapy, she’s so strong! Latching was the thing my son struggled with the most along with his coordination learning to suck, swallow and breathe all at the same time, he has been going to speech therapy and it’s really helped him he doesn’t choke on his food anywhere near as much as he used to and he doesn’t drool as much either because his muscles are getting stronger, afew months ago we were doing 1 load of washing a day and that was just bibs from him drooling so much, he’s also starting to talk after being completely nonverbal for 3 years! He’s still in the 5th percentile for weight but he’s not as small anymore he’s starting to catch up with his peers height wise! It’s amazing watching children that have struggled progress because you know they’ve tried 10x harder to achieve those milestones ❤️

My son is 2 months old and also has DS. We are breastfeeding and it has been going well. He had trouble latching in the beginning so we use a nipple shield and he feeds very well with this.

How did you learn how to breathe through contractions etc?
@kimberlyharvey125 Жыл бұрын
I watched a lot of youtube videos but one tip that stuck with me was to use moan/deep grunt type noises vs high pitch noises/screams. Remind yourself that each contraction you are one contraction closer to meeting your baby!

@KDSima9 ай бұрын
I know u r not saying anything mean. I love your videos and I totally respect u. I just need to say this bc there is a lot of this out there. I tried nursing all three of my daughters. They were born in 1979, 1981, and 1993. I love them all so much. So everyone is aware… bc I do not know if you all are aware of this….there is A LOT of guilt, and shame applied by other women on women who do not nurse. I held my babies while feeding them, I was the one who got up in the middle of the night…. and all day. My daughters all slept with us…. Even though nowadays it is not recommended. Sometimes nursing doesn’t work. My oldest daughter nursed her son until he was one, my middle daughter didn’t. My youngest daughter tried nursing her son, she was told her nipples were inverted so she pumped for a month! She felt a huge amount of guilt. Y r women so horrible to other women. SO. MUCH. SHAMING. Another thing… it is normal not to do the same amount of stuff for your other kids, that u do for your first, or second. I dong know y… but I had so many more entries in their baby books, no pictures…. Just the way it was.
