Im th younger sister so four years after my mum had my older sister she was pregnant with me , my grandparents rounded up every pandit, every puja my mum could possibly do , every prayer every fast just to make me a boy . Even before I was born they came up with boy names for me because they were so sure and desperate for me to be a boy . My mum's sister had three boys and so they rlly hoped I would be one too . When I was born my grandparents were so like disappointed I was a girl .

Doesn’t change that fact, that for once, she’s addressing something real. In some places on this earth, honor killings and the disappointment of giving birth to a girl are still real. That’s not victimhood, that’s reality. What I do agree with however is that instead of propagating this in the west, efforts should be put into changing the culture at the places where this is happening

Honor killings, femicide and the oppression of women is still happening in other places on this planet. Those women are disenfranchised from the moment they’re born. You telling those women that they should “make it happen” is like telling a slave to fight their masters. They can’t. India, among other places, does not provide equal chances to women. It’s up to governments and higher powers to change the narrative. What I do find backwards however is how this is propagated in the west and how western men get all the heat, when this should be heavily endorsed in the (middle) east.
