I'm fairly new. When I'm counting it makes more sense to me to count high cards as +1 and low cards as minus 1. That should make no difference as long as you adjust what you'd normally do at plus you do that at minus instead correct?

I was blown away at how much I've learned since joining BJA. In one month, I'm testing out at 98 and 99%. Still haven't gotten 100% but it'll happen soon as I learn these deviations.
@cwesley20053 жыл бұрын
Steven this is such a great series! I think blackjackapprenticeship is an amazing resource but its so interesting to see what a novice card counter can do if they put in the work. Im getting pissed at myself bc i cannot lock down the s17 and h17 deviations, but when i saw you took a whole year to hone your skills AFTER the boot camp I realized that there is no time crunch. Perfect basic strategy, perfect counting. Then true count conversion, bet deviation and basic strategy deviation . Thanks for giving an honest look at your strengths and weaknesses. I really appreciate the time you put into these videos. Thanks brother and keep counting!
@stevenbridges3 жыл бұрын
Really glad that it's reassuring to see how long it took me. Yeah just keep at it, one deviation at a time! 😃 I still work on new deviations every day and sometimes 1 deviation will just take me bloomin' ages! Just try not to learn too many at once and keep them part of your daily routine, they'll come. It's really satisfying when a deviation that was reallllllly impossible to learn becomes second nature! I think of Deviations in terms of this format... NHC s17/NHC h17/ HC s17/ HC h17 So when I have a deviation I remember it like this.... For example, if I have a 10 and the dealer has a 10 the deviation is: Hit/Hit/Double at a true 7+/Double at a true 7+ It's just way easier for me to remember each deviation in that format.

The issue of having large amounts of cash described at around the 6:10 mark leaves the impression that customs would seize your cash while they investigate the legitimacy of it. That's not how civil forfeiture works in USA#1. Customs would likely just tell you that the story you gave them doesn't add up, seize the money, file a complaint called "The United States versus $200,000 in cash, and let you hire an attorney to try to get it back. They might even offer to let you keep a percentage if you sign away your rights to the remainder of the cash, but you wouldn't be charged with any crime. I am not a lawyer, but the topic infuriates me and I've read up on the practice of CF and watched YT videos on it (there's also a very good episode covering CF by Last Week Tonight that I recommend and John Oliver's accent might make you feel right at home). Corrupt police departments all over this country use it to legally rob citizens on the side of the highway.

I played professionally for 20+ years. To be honest I would avoid using a true count system and switch to a unbalanced count for shoes. You will be able to play far longer without any mistakes. With some modifications in the early part of the shoe (in which unbalanced is weak) you will gain back any potential EV loss by using a unbalanced count (especially with religious wong outs). After playing for so long I also feel that a max bet higher then $200 is a death nail and you will not be able to play long enough to reach EV. With 250k your looking at $600 max bet with correct money management. If your looking at a long career at BJ the playing at that stakes really is a waste of time as you will stand out like a sore thumb. The only thing you will be doing is playing for less then an hour at each place and driving to the next place only to get barred again. Yes it can happen at $200 max too but they are a bit more tolerant. Playing for a living is more about survival. Swinging for the fence is rarely optimal.
