I understand completely. I had a similar occurrence as a female with rectal cancer. I had to fill my bladder and then drive a good way to the center -then wait until the staff were ready for me. I also failed. It is cruel to ask anyone (at any age) to fight the body's urge to urinate. Good luck with the medication. All the best.

Mr. Tom, I am 76 and I've had cancer 5 times. Sixteen years ago, I had cervical cancer. I had 20 external radiation treatments and 5 internal. The side effects were brutal, so I feel for you, Sir. I developed spasms in my bladder and had to take low-dose antibiotics for 6 months. Then, before the treatments were over, I developed radiation enteritis and had to take imodium every day. I still have occasional flare-ups, but have had a lot of success controlling occasional diarrhea with prebiotics and probiotics with additional fiber. I remember having extreme fatigue and sleeping a lot, and it took a long time to get my strength back. My 5 kitties, and dog took care of me! And my Step father took me to every radiation treatment and stayed with me. I am a very independent person and for the first time in my life I had to rely on others to help me. Eighteen months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But I am still here. Prayers and healing thoughts for you and the kitty crew! 💜🙏✝️🛐

Two months before my husband passed in 2004, I had a heart attack. I recuperated pretty quickly, but fast forward to 2022 and my heart failed. I had triple bypass open heart surgery and due to several complications requiring more surgeries, I spent most of 5 months in the hospital. It's taken 2 years, and I have to use a walker or rollator, but I can walk again! And I slowly started doing laundry, cooking/baking, vacuuming, etc. I'm too stubborn to ever give up. 😁 I am grateful and choose to be happy most days. I guess He's not done with me yet, so I'll abide until He calls me Home. Lots of prayers and gentle hugs to Mr. Tom & the kitty crew! 💜🙏

Hi Mr. Tom-my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer shortly after Christmas 2022. He also went through the radiation treatment and was successful! When he started, his PSA levels were at 8 and now they’re down to less than 0.5. I will add you to our prayers.

Tom, some people have more sensitive bladders than others, especially as we get older and have medical conditions. It is not your fault. If the Uristat doesn't work, please ask the doctor to fill your bladder by a foley catheter, clamp the tubing to keep in the water and once the treatment is done, your bladder is emptied, and the catheter is removed. It doesn't hurt to ask. I hate to hear you suffer so. I hope that you do get some rain from the coming storm but none of the winds and flooding that goes with it. Wow you are really going through a lot Mr. Tom. I will keep up my end in prayer. My husband stepped out of his jeep 6 years ago and his femur broke in half. It was his first clue to having stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized to his liver, 2 places in the skull, his lung of course and the femur. He needed radiation to kill the cancer in his skull. Thank God it was not in the brain. He has been on immunotherapy since,and shows no cancer,at this time. Because of the radiation he list about 50% of his hearing. But better to not hear but be here. I understand the power of prayer. More than happy to ask the Lord to do what He does better than any doctors!

I hear you - I am a lady and I have had fibroids in my life. They perform ultrasounds and I had to drink so much water as well. One of the times they said they were running behind and I started crying. They gave me a small paper cup and said I could pee only that much. It took everything in me to make it through the ultrasound. It is hell having to drink the water and hold the pee. You did your best!

If you ever have another ultrasound requiring a full bladder, know that the amount they tell you to drink is FAR too much. Simply not emptying it before you leave home and head out to the scan facility is fine. "Full-ish" is good enough. (The two pounds of fibroids I had removed by the best expert in the country gave me the opposite problem: When my bladder gets painfully overly full, the internal sphincter closes and I have urinary retention.)

Old RN here. Give it a try if your doctor okays it to make sure it won't interfere with the treatment. It does help with bladder irritation which is a thing with radiation. Also, ask them to give you a urinal close by so you can eliminate as soon as the treatment is done. You may not even need it, but sometimes it helps to know you can grab it if you need to.

I have had more than my share of medical tests, frequently described as "a little uncomfortable". It is my firm belief that every medical professional should have to go through, at least once, tests/treatments they advocate for their patients. I bet they'd understand better and maybe even be a little more truthful when they talk to patients. You hang in there. God's got this too. We women experience urgency and leakage at several stages of our life, especially during pregnancy and after menopause, and men deal with prostate issues as they age that affect urgency and flow of urine. I am so sorry for what you are going through. My husband finished his treatment on the last day of April this year. Each of our bodies is different and things don’t always work the way the technicians are used to. May I suggest you not drink so much water an hour before. My husband took two bottles with him and drank one about thirty minutes before he arrived at the clinic. He carried the second bottle in and drank while waiting his turn. It worked beautifully. I pray everything goes well for you.
