I have worked for bosses like Sawyer in the past. One employer I had valued me as an asset to the corporation and was moving me up the management ladder to a high level supervisory position. My "Sawyer" was an a$$hole, with framed documents attesting to his educational prowess on the wall of his office. He did everything he could to discredit me and failed. I quit and shook the dust off my feet at his office doorway. A year later, because of his arrogance the corporation went belly up. He pi$$ed off so many major clients that they went with someone else. The last I heard, he was still unemployed and lost his lifestyle, supported only by social security. Sometimes there is justice in the world.

It's sad though, how many people in the world relate to the conceited. You were a victim of that. I also used to work with a similar a/hole. But I fixed him. He was my leading hand. Told our foreman about a leading hand job going in another plant belonging to the company. He encouraged Jimmy to apply. Jimmy took the job, and we got rid of him. Our next leading hand was a human being and got on with everyone in our section....but after a couple of months, Mr. Non people person, alias Jimmy was pissing off everyone in his new section. My foreman thanked me for the excuse to get rid of him. Jimmy expertise on the job was excellent, his dealing with people was well beliw par. But we didn't miss him, and harmony returned.

One of the key problems with today’s workplace. Few companies have strong leaders anymore!Anyone who jeopardizes 30% of the company’s worth is not worth salvaging! Arrogance and haughtiness are diseases. People with those tendencies are compensating for inferiority. The negative message that keeping someone like that on even at reduced title and compensation destroys the chemistry and trust from those he mistreated! HR is way too gutless these days!

As long as you keep the manager above you manipulated, you could murder someone in cold blood and nothing will happen to you.

So it sounds like he was confrontational with his new manager right from the start because he didn’t like the new structure the manager decided he wanted in his department. Hopefully after he was fired the company sued the client and the former employee for not disclosing the conflict of interest.

I'd be documenting, documenting, documenting...and sending very polite enquiries to HR, "Is (citing a specific incident) an (appropriate/approved) method of leadership? It seems (a bit harrassing/hostile/shortsighted) because of (cite the problem it's causing). Several of us would like to know whether or not this is an official company (policy/attitude/etc)." And then document and BCC all correspondences and ALL actions/reactions, to form the inevitable papertrail of harassment & retaliation. Not everyone has a powerful person/patron/business partner in their pocket, but there ARE things you can do. Just make sure to phrase it in ways where you are clearly looking out for the company's best interests, and are seeking clarification as to whether or not the company officially approves or sanctions such (normally unacceptable) behavior. And ALWAYS DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

Hmmmm…. Was a great story and the truth is, there’s a lot of arrogant creeps like that in the work place who have an attitude of privilege and make life miserable for others.

Well written story but just another in the "bad boss gets found out" mould so often used. The story is translated to English and adapted to suit western ears by using common US/GB people's names. In the western culture, people accused of wrongdoing do not fall to their knees (kowtowing) so almost certainly a Japanese author. This channel's robot voice is emotionless and always pronounces "patted" (him on the shoulder) as "potted", irritating, isn't it?
