My patrons had to vote between my partner or my pets controlling my writing vlog...and The Boyfriend just barely beat the little furry ones! This vlog includes a "stoppage time" concept, dice chaos to determine when I start and stop writing, and a lot more! (Also I spoil Project ☠️☠️ a lot because I'm getting close to The End and apparently cannot stop myself???)
0:00 This is a throwback writing experiment concept! (Ft. Duke and my family.)
1:13 The Boyfriend decides!
5:46 Let the writing experiment commence!
9:29 Just nonstop spoiling.
10:29 Oops, rules are hard. Also back to being a good authortuber and not sharing everything.
13:05 Even more, even worse spoiling!
15:06 Back to not spoiling and also trying to achieve more of what The Boyfriend set for me.
24:06 The experiment is done! Wrap-up thoughts and questions for you!
☟↓ QUESTIONS FOR YOU BELOOOOOW! ↓☟
D I S C U S S I O N Q U E S T I O N S :
How long do you think you could non-stop write for?? (If you're only allowed breaks to the bathroom...)
What do you think of the writing routine my partner came up with?
Do you prefer spoilers to be labeled in writing vlogs or do you not care at all and want ALL OF THE SPOILERS!?

The second the DND dice came out, I knew chaos would follow and I was not disappointed! I've done a 12 hour writeathon before, all out of the house so I couldn't get distracted, but i'm not sure I could do it now.

Okay!!! This is such a good point, because I keep thinking how nice it would be to see about renting a cheap AirBnB or something and just secluding myself for a weekend. It's amazing the distractions we have at home. (Especially as a parent, I imagine it's distractions x100!)

I feel like I can safely assume you will never do another 24 hour write-a-thon again, but will you ever do a 24 in 36? Whenever I need writing motivation, I basically loop the 4 or 5 (or 6?) 24 hr a-thons to fuel myself with chaos and the "I can do it!" spirit the videos always start with lol
@KateCavanaugh
@KateCavanaugh 2 жыл бұрын
Bahaha! I think the only way I'd do a 24-hour writeathon again is if I decided to do a 24-hour streamathon (which might happen?? Like I'm VERY curious if I could do it, which means I will probably try....at some point....) But I DO think I'd try a 24-in-36 again! Maybe during one of the Camps?? And glad I can help refuel your chaos! Bahaha. :)

I loved watching this! Once the dice came out, they had me wondering about an experiment where the dice control your writing day. I recently bought myself a set of dice for a Power Rangers RPG game my brothers and I will start playing soon, so if I do that experiment, I have dice handy! Also yay for all the critter love! And the chaos.

You know I am the kind of person who is really okay with spoilers (with the exception of marvel projects). I am fine with getting snippets of spoilers because I always think: even though I know this snippet of information I look forward to learning how that spoiler came to be. If you get what I mean. So for example if I get spoiled that someone dies, I am excited to learn how they died, why they died, and what led up to that death.
@KateCavanaugh
@KateCavanaugh 2 жыл бұрын
I totally get what you mean because same!! Unless it's a story I've been looking forward to for years and is like, the last book in a 5-book series or something, and I purposely picked it up the first day it was available and somehow was STILL spoiled -- that's the only time I get mad bahah. Otherwise I enjoy spoilers and snippets and hints at what's to come!! :)

At least it wasn't 7am - 10pm 🙂That Darth chalice is so amazing! During NaNoWriMo I wrote for about two hours to get my daily word count and some days I struggled with that. Although, it is an improvement from 2020 when I started my writing journey.

Bahah, that is a VERY excellent point. I can't imagine 7am - 10pm plus stoppage time. I would've been working until the next morning. An accidental 24-hour write-a-thon bahaha. And I think that's INCREDIBLE!! It really shows your dedication! It'll be so fun to hear how 2022's NaNoWriMo goes for you. :)

Man that was intense lol. So I know my sweet spot is 25 minute writing sprints with 10-15 minutes 'rest' the rest can be me watching a youtube video, bathroom break, food, or walking around my house like a victorian ghost. If I can do that, I can write almost all day. I was able to write 14k in 7 hours at that pace, and that 10-15 minutes I was able to do other things so I didn't feel utterly detached. Now. Mind you. I was brain dead for the next 2 weeks after I did that. I might try only bathroom breaks just to see how badly I break down, but that'll be when I have a project ready. Currently I'm in the middle of my rest before I switch to editing.

This was an interesting experiment. I really like the idea of having to make up the time that you do other things during your "work time" as a way to stay accountable and realize just how much you do go off track each day. I could see this, with a shorter writing window or broken up writing times, being an interesting method.

Lololol! I don't think I counted it in the part I showed on the vlog, but did count "puppy and kitty breaks" other times. 😂 And it's the Soundance laptop stand! www.amazon.com/Ergonomic-Compatible-Notebook-Soundance-LS1/dp/B07D74DT3B Apparently you can also get it in different colors?? (The Boyfriend bought me the same one he had. So 2/2 people in this household recommend! Bahaha.)

I have the exact same laptop stand and I love it! This experiment was a lot of fun! It would be cool to see an entirely dice-based writing experiment where you assign different tasks to different numbers and roll every so often. Two d6s would be cool because different numbers have different probabilities! It'd be chaos haha

The problem with me though is that while I know that I could go longer I can only go maybe 2-3 hours before someone is demanding my attention. If I was on my own I could probably go a full 8 hours the same as I would for a regular shift at work. (although I would need a half an hour break for food and 2 15min breaks same as I get for my day job)

Interruptions are an excellent point! My dad and I were talking about his time as a professor and how he loved teaching, but how important the research was, and he felt like he never truly got enough time for it. And I said that it sounded just like writing. We get in a zone and if we're interrupted, sometimes it takes 20/30 minutes to get back into that perfect zone, and that's assuming we don't get interrupted again! Not that you have to be "in the zone" to get words or be productive, but I find it's a noticeably different state.

I wonder if it's because we as the writers know the importance of something, but there's no way an audience could possibly know?? Even if we say like THIS IS THE BIG TWIST, unless someone is holding the finished book, it won't really have the same impact. But I completely understand that fear!! Especially for sharing snippets or specific lines, or the way some people are able to post whole chapters online for critique!

I feel like it's hard to tell how much of a story is given away until a reader picks it up, comparing what they think they know to what is. But that could be very much to each his own: I'm someone who doesn't mind spoilers most of the time, and any tidbits you've given have only enticed more. I also think we don't know enough about about the main plot/conflict to give away to much or spoil any future reading? Or I just missed it lol

YES. Always choose chaos!!! Dude. 2,458 Is the exact number I got on Julie's New Years Eve stream o.O Looks like you and TB had a fun time with this one. I'm with you on trying to figure up how many hours is actually work vs. how long do I stare off into space wishing I was anywhere but here. That does kind of throw a wrench into writing plans hahaha.
@KateCavanaugh
@KateCavanaugh 2 жыл бұрын
CLEARLY THIS IS A SIGN, JESSICA. (But what does it mean? I wish it would've been more specific. Like we both wrote the same word for our 2458th word. That would've been a better clue bahaha.) Bahah YES. Staring off into space for sure. Sometimes I think it's beneficial to sit in that discomfort of "this story is too hard and I'm not sure I'll ever be good enough" vs. just getting up and doing something else. I think I come to the eventual solution just as fast either way?? But who knows.
