I read an article that talks about the album and the video and pretty much sums this video up nicely: “People are depicted as a cult of hooded figures, focusing on nothing else but their cellphones while the world around goes to hell. A blonde Instagram model prances about in a photoshoot, almost showing some good old T&A in the process, while hollow-headed followers drool over her and tap their likes. A child wearing a gas mask is sacrificed to the altar of pollution and multiplied Floor takes selfies with a girl who looks like she’s from a children’s beauty pageant, while Tuomas goes around hugging trees and nurturing sprouts of green. Someone gets beaten to pulp while the onlookers just snap away with their cellphones. This is a rude awakening, a vicious backlash to every superficial modern phenomenon, starting from our slavery to social media to prescription drug abusers to consumerism, pollution to egotist personal branding. Nightwish has never been so mean before. This will ruffle a lot of feathers. The end of the video sees the viewpoint rise above the noise that all this is, and shows a vista of a sunrise on a lake in the distance, showing that everything that ever mattered is elsewhere, not on the screen of our phones and computers.”

No, it’t about how most of the information that we take in through media and social media is not in accordance with the truth. Lots of fake information, fake news and political stories that sound great, but that are factually not true. It is about how this noise of misinformation controls our minds. It’s about how we as a society are not capable anymore to distinguish the truth from the lies.
@ChrisPage684 жыл бұрын
@@treintje1001 It's about all of it. It's about living life in the real world instead of online. We are all guilty of it - showing up at demonstrations just to be seen to be there. The Insta-Mom who effectively lives her life through others looking at her children, and her supposed perfect life..
@mdog25604 жыл бұрын
treintje1001 notice you said “we” a few times. When I say it’s a me society, “me” is included in that group. All of what you’re saying is true, what we read and see in social media is not all true, but when we’re checking it out, subconsciously we are asking ourselves will this information, true or not, help “me “ make my life better or worse, thus making it a me society.
@Scugzerker4 жыл бұрын
I love it when musicians decide to write a dagger to society! Everyone with some common sense knows that the nowadays society is only to feed the ego, where sex is for sale, children are forced to do stuff because their parents want them to like those 'miss beauty' girls of 7 or 8 years old. You'll hardly find one child who doesn't hate it, but their parents force them to do so because it makes them feel good knowing that their kid is a "beauty". Most of us know this can't be and isn't right, but we cannot do much about it since we're unable to reach large amounts of people within a short enough period.

Yes, it's awessome :) But do go read the lyrics and re-watch it ;) My takeaways are quit being fake like the posing environmentalist who bathes in oil in private (Tuomas), be tolerant of others unlike those who beat up those who are different (Emppu), help those in need unlike those who use the fight as another selfie occasion (Kai), be king of a throne other than a toilet (Troy), don't count on recreational chemistry or fad diets for happiness (Marko), and pay attention to your children, bond with them, but give them the space and freedom they need to grow (Floor). Also, don't overdose on the digital like an alcoholic with wine so that you don't come to the end of your life only to find you've neglected to live. It all fits in with the previous studio album. Shudder Before the Beautiful, appreciate your family and your Decades in the Sun, enjoy the Endless Forms Most Beautiful, build your Walden, taste the wine and travel with great Elan, and when it's your time to become one with Alpenglow, revel in having won the lottery of birth against all odds to be a part of the Greatest Show on Earth! @Ruby Phoenix : I've said it like this: We are turning society into a gigantic Virtual Panopticon. Originally, Jeremy Bentham, an 18th-century British philosopher called his Panopticon a model prison, where the prisoners would automatically follow the rules, once they knew they were being observed. This Virtual Panopticon is already coming to fruition (see China's pilot program of a social credit score). The issue for me is, we aren't just being passive as a technologically innovative Virtual Panopticon is being built all around us -- and the irony is, like trained animals, we are willingly putting ourselves into our own individual cell. And in this prison we are creating, there are no locks, because they aren't needed. At the end of it all, we have the choice, the autonomy, to refuse to consent to what is being built around us -- and we stay silent, because the mob, we think, is somehow more moral than we are, individually. The mob is actually the immoral aspect, not us, because, as I like to say, no man or woman has the right to take away my free will, my autonomy -- and neither does a large group of people deciding, as a group, to do the same. How we each use the tool is up to us -- but to keep our autonomy, to stay free, to enjoy liberty, we each must be willing to pay attention to the world around us, instead of narcissistically seeking the approval of others online -- because when you are a social chameleon, and you are always chasing the approval of the masses, you lose what's real. You lose what makes *you* who you are. Sorry to drag this out, but ever since Noise was released, I've felt a duty to make known my thoughts about this aspect of the modern society we live in -- because unless we speak out, things will only get worse, not better. The first step to solving any problem is recognizing there is one.
