You can get a very nice one for $30k. For most people that is a better buy. If you aren't an expert and / or don't know someone that is very honest and very good, don't buy a car that needs repairs, especially body work. Personal experience. Buy $10k car. Spend another $10k on shady shop. Of course all shady shops look upstanding when you take the car in. Shady shop wants more money and won't even let you see the car. Contact Police. They can't do much. Another $3k on lawyer to get car back. Next shop says they see that all the time. Will be more to fix it all, seeing they have to put car back together. Car only worth $2000 now. Sell car. $21k less and no car. Lesson learned. Should have bought the nicer one.

Hey, I bought cheap 2007 335xi straight from auction. Nothing hidden, car went over a curb. Other than two wheels, bumper and headlights, nothing else replaced. I paid 1/3 of the market value of this car. Rebuilt? Who cares! I saved a lot of money and I can spend this money in modifications of the car. It's always lottery when we talk about rebuilt cars. My advice? Buy straight from auction and repair it yourself or with help of someone you can trust. Also, look at the amount of damage and of course, the page that he showed in the video.

I've fixed these cars and the quarter panels are to be riveted and bonded, not completely welded. Plus they need to be put on jigs to properly anchor the car. Any high end shop worth a damn uses a celette bench. For the amount of money needed now to make this right, it's not worth it given the rebuilt title
@williameuler80565 жыл бұрын
1slogoat I was going to post this as well. Mercedes does not have much welding. They use a 2 part adhesive and rivets. If you can I would pull the WIS documents from Mercedes before getting it repaired. Also, at this point replace the rear body panel with the tail lamp pocket, a little extra but will resolve the rusting. And, if going to fix it, replace the left floor. It probably had near 20,000 ish in damage just for the rear and 10,000 to 15,000 for the front end. Also the rail looks out. Definitely needs a Celette bench and jigs. I see why it was totaled now. Alex, I can feel your pain. While I never purchased our 86 300SDL Benz as a wrecked car, it had been resprayed at one time, likely due to faded paint (DB904 Midnight Blue, which is non-metallic). The paint job was okay but it seemed to get worse and worse over time. I wanted to have it done the proper way, but the estimates of close to 5 figures was beyond my ability to afford it. I dealt with it and then when I needed some rust repair handled, I went cheap and used Maaco. Not a good move as the paint job for $1500 was not even close to the factory color. Needless to say, I was not happy, but then I got what I paid for. Not long thereafter, it was totaled and I received top dollar for it since it was in perfect shape otherwise. Bought a 1976 230 Benz after that, for our daughter. The 300SDL was owned by me for 9 years. If I had kept it, I would have had it professionally rebuilt (body-wise) and farm out what I couldn't do otherwise. Gorgeous body style, that W126... a real classic.

This is typical level of work If a car has a salvaged title. The chances of it being fixed "right" are very very slim. Everything will be fixed for minimum cost. Corners will be cut, very few parts will be purchased new, and the job will be rushed. Most of the salvage rebuilders aren't even properly trained auto body repair men. Salvage cars can be dangerous, so it's good you're educating people on this stuff

Rebuilders will typically never fix a car to an insurance body shop standard. Biggest issue for me on a RB car though is safety, like unreinforced seam welds, SRS bypass, chop shop type stuff. Every time a see a C63 at an auction or private seller, even on a clean title car I'll run a VIN check and pull the spare tire out and sure enough there is damage, these cars seem to average 2-3 accidents per car. Took them to court, won the case, and the judge awarded me a full refund and i got to keep the car. I then sold the car for about 20% of what i paid for it as thats what it was worth in spare parts. Simple shims or washers would have brought the tail light back out to where it belonged. Even stick on foam pads would shim it out. Any vehicle with a salvage or reworked title indicates it was repaired. It shouldnt be a deal breaker but common sense says the vehicle is not going to be worth as much as one with no damage. Now days, body shop repair guys are pressed by insurance companys to the point some can and do take short cuts on repairs.

If he wanted a pristine AMG, he knows where the nearest MB dealership is for a 2019/20. He already knew what he was getting before he and his friend went to get the car and another one. Of course, he’s using it to make money on KZbin - that’s what “KZbinrs” do. After he realized the car didn’t have the infamous head bold issue, he is creating other content for the “business”, and for the viewers. Alex, I for one - enjoy seeing someone doing AMG content and not another “I bought the cheapest Ferrari in the states!” video. BTW the hard cold starting on the newer CDI is due to wrong voltage on the glow plugs. Bosch has the incorrect voltage listed in their catalogs (12V) so any of those plugs should be binned. Beru has the correct voltage plug in the stock system (7V) and is readily available from 3rd parties such as IDParts.com . The problem with the wrong voltage plug is it won't throw a CEL at all. I had to do this with my '05 Passat TDI when VW recalled all the plugs in the stock system and I needed to pass inspection. We installed 12v plugs in place of the 5V oem plugs to clear the CEL It was a b!tch to cold start just like the your CDI . Eventually VW correct the stock and issued a recall for replacement. I currently have an '05 E320 CDI (7 years) and an '09 ML320 Blutec (4 years).

I think I'd probably get the bodywork done, if for no other reason than the car would set off my OCD whenever I look at it and drive me nuts. I hate mismatched body lines. I'm not all that familiar with Mercedes, but is the C63 AMG prone to any major mechanical issues such as what plague the BMW M5 E60? If it's a mechanically solid vehicle that you can repair for a reasonable cost and then drive for a while, then it's a bargain even with the scuffed title.

get a paint thickness meter . it will tell you a lot of about the body of a vehicle.

Do they still have the 97x? Is it an AERO, can't help myself, I am a sucker for Mercedes and Saab's, owned both of these cars and loved them
