There are huge shopping centers here for Vietnamese (a TV station too), Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese. (all this also in Houston). There are numerous Buddhist temples open to the public, Chinese college prep schools and different language newspapers. The Indian community has a huge footprint here to, and they brought their food with them (yum). I am probably missing someone but the point is, we all get along. One State, under God, with liberty and justice for all. Lets keep it that way East and West coasters should have a test and revocable permit before moving here, just like hunting or driving. You touched on tornadoes and house damage. Can you share more details on that like has a tornado actually damaged your residence? Can you also discuss your local area property crime rates as in house & car prowlers and how you defend against that? Your topics are informative so keep posting
@EdwardInTX4 жыл бұрын
Good point. My AC bill was $110 last month. I had hail and wind damage in 2018 and had to replace my roof. I ended up paying $2650 out of pocket (1% of house value). Good insurance and 1% deductible is important. Had to fight with the insurance on it for 1 month. I know a friend living in a high hail probability area and got screwed because he had to replace roof 3x in 6 years. I think that's a video idea to make. I bought in a low crime area but I've seen the car prowler issue and I'd recommend them just park in the garage. Keep the cars locked. There are times in good neighborhoods you have young kids opening cars at like 2am just to see what's inside.

Simply said… Here it is in a nutshell… If you are from another state any state, but for now let’s just say California, and you come to Texas… Live here, enjoy what we have in Texas… And if for some reason it is not your cup of tea… Then to all of those simply Pack up all of your belongings, enter home on your GPS tracking device in your car and head back to wherever you came from and be happy again… Or try somewhere else. But as this gentleman said he came to Texas and has enjoyed his time here… Good for you sir! Texas is alone as far as our people, our way of life, and our beliefs! There are companies that will fight your property taxes every year. I live outside of Houston and the company I have will protest any property increase every year. If they save you money you pay them half of what they saved you. I paid them $145.00 this year, last year I didn’t pay them anything. Giving them half is better than giving the county the full amount.

The real estate tax is based on the value of the home. So if your county appraised value goes up every year, your taxes will too. Denton County has taxes in the 2.3-2.5% range. I moved to Flower Mound Denton Co., to take advantage of the lower tax rate.

So if I understand correctly, the property taxes "go up" because your property gets re-appraised. Not because your taxes go from say 2.8 to 3.0, correct? -- And how does the appraisal work? Can you get your own or does the county/state just automatically do that?
@EdwardInTX2 жыл бұрын
Correct. County does appraisals, and the majority of us protest the values every year. With the housing prices going way up, that definitely affects taxes.

Great video! I was born and raised in Texas (DFW) and I would not live anywhere else! Another thing that you could point out in your next video is that DFW (and most big metropolitan areas in Texas) offers the ability to live a country life while still being close to the city. For example, my family and I live in a beautiful house on five acres in Royse City with a horse-ready barn. My wife works in Dallas at 75 and Walnut Hill and only has a 35 to 50 minute commute depending on traffic. Texas is able to offer big city conveniences and/or a country lifestyle simultaneously. It is perfect for anyone’s preference. Also, out here in Royse City, our property taxes are under 2%, rather than the 2.8% you mentioned in your area of the metroplex. Though we are in Royse City, we are in Rockwall County which means we have access to the extraordinary schools in Rockwall County as well as Royse City’s exemplary school district. Rockwall is the ultimate suburban city... great restaurants, shopping, parks, beautiful downtown, and of course Lake Ray Hubbard. Here in Royse City, we are able to live a country lifestyle while only being 10-15 minutes away from the suburban amenities of Rockwall and only 40 minutes away from downtown Dallas. Love your channel, keep it up!

I think my largest concern with leaving California for Texas is that in the area I live in, I can go to target, pick up some quick lunch, and head back home in less than 25 minutes. I lived in Florida for one year and the far driving to do menial tasks is horrible. There’s no place I’ve seen like Orange County, but the downside is that you pay for it.

As far as hobbies, you should tell people that Texas has a little bit of everything. You may have to drive a bit to get to it, but considering what you're saving on a daily commute, you still come out ahead. Texas has forests in the east, a long coastline, rivers, hills, canyons, deserts, and even a couple of mountains. The states surrounding Texas also have popular attractions. Louisiana has New Orleans. Arkansas has the Ozark mountains and hot springs. Oklahoma and Louisiana have casinos. New Mexico has skiing.

Here is my question about Texas high increasing every year property tax: For a state that is primarily hands off Government regulations, why doesn’t someone there stop that? I understand it’s used to fix roads and schools and maybe no income tax there off sets it, but if property taxes are the highest in the nation and keep increasing every year, then Texas doesn’t really sound so “free” to me.

@GetsumJ4 жыл бұрын
Ok, I like this dude. I get why he moved here. However, I would use caution because you basically are not describing the essence of what Texas is. I was born here, and live on 8 acres between Denton and Decatur. (You know where that is by now). We have horses, 4 wheelers, and no real rules (Unincorporated). Don't judge see us like you do people in Frisco, Plano, Carrollton and all the other urban cities. Most of those people come and go. People out here are country folk, we don't really judge people on much. We see two things. Honesty and Respect. We don't have contracts, we have handshakes. We same ma'am and sir, ladies are respected, not beaten, and we could care less what color you are or if you date the same sex. The only issue we have is when people make demands on our lifestyle based on their own perceptions. So I may go to church and own as little at 20 different weapons. You may not like church and be afraid of guns. I support the fact you it is your right, and will never judge you for it. Don't label me for mine. If you really wanna see the country and the essence of Texas, you can't do it from where you are. You can shoot me an email and as any Texas will tell you; "We have a place at our table for ya any time". PS- Dont bring that car, my meme/pic tells ya what cha need to get around out here. Welcome to Texas friend!

@rayshepherd24793 жыл бұрын
Summers in Huston are awful because of the humidity. We have lived in Texas 3 times, Midland, Snyder and Huston. Retired to Northern California foothills. House prices here are higher than Dallas but slightly less than Austin. California weather is better and scenery is much better and diverse. Hate the politics/regulations here in California. Will probably eventually move to either Texas or Tennessee since we have kids there. Tennessee would be less expensive with lower taxes. Prop 13 has kept our property taxes reasonable especially compared to Texas. Our son lives in Austin and his property taxes are almost as much as our property and income taxes even though his home is smaller than ours. So as they say, location, location. Our home in the bay area would be 3 times what it is here.
