I made a mistake at 10:54, Auto image rotation should be turned on. This means that you don't have to rotate the picture when you import it to your computer.

Hi! You are welcome. All the settings would be completely the same except that you choose JPEG Fine instead of RAW for the image quality and Large for image size. Just be aware that you get much better results when shooting raw and editing the pictures in post.

Hi again, have you created a video thats covers the day & night base settings for aperture; shutter speed & ISO (for D5300(? I have subscribed to your channel but cant see any vids about this.
@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller Жыл бұрын
Hi! I haven't done any basic photography tutorials on my channel because I thought there so many online already. But if I find the time, I could probably start a series. There are no base setting specifically for the D5300 nor are there specific base settings for day or night, it only depends on the effect you want to achieve in your photo. You need to learn and understand the exposure triangle.

@ReinhardBiller 11 ай бұрын
This video is about my camera base settings. For photography there are no right or wrong settings, you have to use the exposure settings depending on the look you want to achieve. Learn to understand the "exposure triangle" and play around a bit. If you want the product to be sharp front to back you most probably want to use a closed down aperture like f8 or f11, the shutter speed has to be adapted accordingly for a correct exposure. If you use a light instead of a flash it could be useful to use a tripod if the shutter speed is to long for sharp handheld photos.

@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dongan! This is not possible to answer without additional information and seeing images and exif data. There can be multiple reasons if photos are blurry, for example bad lens, too long shutter speed (the longer the lens the shorter the shutter speed should be), camera shake when shooting handheld, wind, lens or sensor not clean, images get noisy when using too high ISO.

I'm glad to hear, that this video is helpful for you. I think nobody can tell you the camera settings that works best in your situation without knowing what you want to photograph, what the amount and quality of the available light is and what the look is you are going for. But maybe I would go for a wide open aperture (1.8 or 2.8, if possible), a longer exposure that you can still handhold without blurring the image, ISO just as high as needed, and maybe slightly underexposed. If you want to use also a flash I would use an external flash at low power and use indirect light (against ceiling maybe). Just experiment! ;)

@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 6 жыл бұрын
This video is about the camera menu base settings I use on my camera. The settings for the correct exposure has to be dialed in separately. For bird photography I normally use a long lens (150-600mm, usually on the long end), an open aperture for a nice bokeh (soft background), a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion and avoid blur and compensate with ISO as required. Hope that helped.

@ReinhardBiller 6 жыл бұрын
You are welcome! If you plan to buy your first DSLR I would recommend to choose the D5300 over the D3400, it is a complete different class. The D5300 has a much better autofocus system with more points, a better monitor that also swivels, microphone jack, Wi-Fi and GPS. If you want to buy a kit with lens, I also highly recommend to choose the 18-105 or 18-140 over the 18-55, because of more range and much better glass and therefore better image quality.

@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 6 жыл бұрын
I think the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 is a great lens for beginners, because instead of just zooming you have to move with the camera, so that you better lern angles and compositions. The lens is also very small, light AND cheap. In my opinion it is a good lens for portrait and street photography.
@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 6 жыл бұрын
In terms of image quality both the 18-105mm and the 18-140mm are good lenses considering the price and due to the range they are very versatile. My favorite lens is the Sigma Art 18-35mm 1.8 though. But I also started with the 18-105mm. Anyhow I think that your skill as a photographer is much more important than any gear. And if you want to make money with photography also the skill to sell yourself, marketing etc. Therefore I can't answer the question.

There is a number of reasons that could be the issue and it is difficult to say without seeing a picture. Maybe you didn't hit with the focus. Or your shutterspeed is too long for handheld shooting. Or the lens you use is generally not very sharp. I guess it is one of the first two things.

Hello I tried your tutorial now all my pictures are so blurry. please help
@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Without seeing the pictures and exif data, it is diffucult to name the reason, because there could be multiple reasons for that. I use back button AF this means the camera doesn't focus when half-pressing the shutter release button, but only when you press the back button. Be sure that you focus before you press the shutter release button (or switch back button AF off again). Another reason could be that your shutter speed is too long for hand held shooting with the amount of light available. I think one of these two reasons is the problem. Another reason could be when using a very fast lens like F1.4 especially when combining with a long focal length, that you have a very shallow depth of field. Hope that helps.

Reinhard Biller Wow thank you for replying again. So as you are replying I want to ask you one question about video shooting that why my camera lens doesn’t focus automatically like in other you-tubers videos ? for example when I focus myself first while recording it won’t focus my hand or anything when I keep it near to the lens. Is it problem with lens or settings?
@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 4 жыл бұрын
@@srijanabada2330 To be honest I have never used the continious video AF on the Nikon D5300 because it is very bad. I shot all my videos with manual focus. You can try it and you will see. You have to be in live view and switch on AF-F using the i-button. If you want to have a great video auto focus, I guess you have to buy a more modern Sony like A73 or A7s3 or a Canon with dual pixel auto focus. ;)

I think the 35mm lens is a great choice on an APSC camera for wider portraits and street photography. A zoom lens is more versatile but a prime lens is anyhow a good choice for beginners because one of the parameter is already fixed and to frame the shot you have to move, the learning effect is bigger and you get a better feeling for composition and camera angles. Have fun with it!

I didn't notice that before, but I tried it myself because I was interested. You are right, when the screen is tilted to the front and you use live view, the left hand is shown on the left side of the screen and when you take the picture the left hand is on the right side of the screen as somebody else just took a normal picture of you. I think this can't be changed via the settings, at least I don't know how. But this is not an issue for me. It is just like looking into a mirror, actually I find it easier as it is than otherwise. Maybe you try to get used to it, otherwise you can try to swivel the screen not fully forwards (like 45 degrees).

@ReinhardBiller 5 жыл бұрын
I ignored the HDR mode because I have never used it. You can only use the HDR mode when shooting jpg. I rather prefer to shoot raw because this gives me much more information in the edit and if the contrast in the scene is very high you can also shoot two or more raw pictures with different exposures that you can combine in post.

how to turn on HDR mode on D5300?
@ReinhardBiller
@ReinhardBiller 5 жыл бұрын
You need to shoot jpeg to use the automatic HDR function, it does not work for raw files. But I prefer to shoot raw, as it has much more dynamic range and details. If the contrast is too high to capture everything in one image you can shoot two or three raw files with different exposure and merge them together in post. This is what I would do.

I think it could be that I only shoot raw format, I guess you can just retouch jpeg format. But I don't mind because I shoot raw and edit on my computer.

@ReinhardBiller 5 жыл бұрын
You are right the D5300 doesn't have a dedicated copyright information function like some newer models. But you can add an Image Comment, for example: (c) Your Name.

@ReinhardBiller

I use "back button focussing", this means that the camera is not focussing anymore when half pressing the shutter release button. I define when I want to focus by pressing the back button. Focus and release is done independently.

Go to the Custom Menu settings and check that menu d6 (Print Date) is set to "off". Menu d6 is ignored when shooting NEF or NEF + JPEG.
