"Grooming "us to leave cash, to accept credit or digital is NOT the best option for me either. Awareness and making a choice is of more importance. When someone says, everyone does it that way, it is an invitation to "follow". I hear alarms go off with this thinking...it does not lead to critical thinking or awareness. Following has always gotten me into trouble! I like also, to talk to my cashier, to be thanked for my patronage and feel like I am part of a community. Thank you for reinforcing that we can be wise and use our intelligence to master our lives in ways that compliment awareness. Happy 2024! Stay warm and thank you for sharing. ☃

I ❤❤❤ your explanation of stoicism as “practical preparation” and the idea of being ready to handle whatever comes your way without living in constant dread. One step I’ve made in that direction is to always fill my gas tank before it drops below half-full. That started as an emergency readiness practice but has turned out to be a great stress reducer a few times when a week just got unexpectedly crazy. I look forward to your 2024 content (and van adventures - yay!), and I hope the creation is as rewarding for you as the viewing is for us. ☺️

I like where your channel is going. I was raised to know how to do things for myself. My father would say..."what are you going to do if your mother isn't around any more?" So he made sure we knew how to do things! He made us help him with fixing things around the house so we at least saw what was done and not intimidated by tools, etc. I hate being dependent on a man to fix something and feel like a person who comes in your house to fix things might be taking advantage of a woman hoping she doesn't know much - it happens! I like your channel because in the end there is no man behind the scene with the "fat wallet" or muscle helping you get things done. I see many renovation videos and in the end there is a man that is lending monetary and physical help. Keep doing what you are doing! I look forward to more videos! And I love your budgeting system and thoughts on interacting with people when you get gas/groceries! It is becoming a lost art!

Dave Randy’s cash budgeting plan was made available to me in the Montreal area years ago. But decades before he came around, my late aunt taught it to me via her sock drawer. Heehee but seriously. If you’re looking for self sufficiency, have you considered growing your own sprouts which are mega vitamin sources, or making your own kombucha (been doing both for years) & I just returned back to sourdough bread making again. Granted, one needs room for supplies, storage and making but knowing how to do them is another tool in the box. Last yr I putted around with dehydrating food and how to can meals. I’ve yet to dive fulling into the later. Good luck with your new lessons. Hit me up if you ever want to learn how to knit. Blessings for 2024.

Adelina, I think the direction you’re taking your channel is spot on. Over the past five years, I’ve focused on self sufficiency…learning about organic vegetable gardening and food preservation. Because I’m in Alberta, I don’t have a long growing season so I will do things like buy frozen organic mixed veggies from Costco and dehydrate them, then store them in mason jars. I recently purchased a digital pressure canner and I’m learning to preserve food that way. There is so much to learn and the journey is fun. I will definitely stay with you on your channel because you are interesting, friendly and honest.

Something I did this week, as we are expecting some colder weather, was to put up a curtain rod. Sounds simple, right? I have a patio door on the rear of my cottage. I bought some insulated drapes to cover the doors and realized I have never installed hardware for a rod. That was my husband’s job. It’s 84” long so it wasn’t easy, but I got it done! I got out my drill, level & stepladder and after several tries it was done. The room was so much warmer this morning and I wondered why I procrastinated so long - fear of failure I suppose. Looking forward to some diy type videos. Your instructional videos in the past have been very helpful. Your patient and thorough style of teaching is appreciated.

But most of all, I've enjoyed following your life. Like you, I'm most interested in living an authentic, intentional life and have found your channel so uplifting because I'm watching someone who is doing the same thing. Keep it up. Yours is one of my top three channels I follow. I especially enjoyed your video today about how you manage your cash flow. Many years ago when I was raising my son as a single parent following a divorce and living on a small salary, I used what was called an envelope system which is similar to what you currently use. I think it's great! Thank you for your willingness to share your life with others on your own terms. You're an inspiration to many.

We do things exactly the same! In the USA there is a program started by Dave Ramsey that is an envelope system that works on the same principal as your wallet system. We have been doing it for years, we pay cash for our gas too. One perk, credit card skimmers that steal your info. are on gas pumps most of the time, and so you don't have to worry about that if you pay cash. We have always lived on a budget, and I actually like being aware of what we spend. Great video as always!!

I studied with Dave's team years ago. His system is where I stared.

Thank you for sharing. I do something similar with cash, but I don’t carry it with me. I have envelopes I keep in a locked fireproof box & take what I need when I go to town. I also don’t live close to stores so I plan my trips by what I need to do on a particular day. I certainly can do a much better job budgeting as it’s getting more difficult now that I’m retired and a widow. It’s been tough with just one retirement income now but it’s doable and I count my blessings.
@myBIGtinyhouselife10 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. That's awsome that you already use a similar system! I'll often take the amounts that are accumulating (such as for beauty, etc.) and leave them at home if the amount is getting high. Mostly, when I pull the funds out I go directly to fill the tank, which takes up about $130 out of the wallet that day and then get groceries. So I don't actually end up carrying around that much cash with me.

Great stuff Adelina!!!! I'm fully on board with the direction you are taking, in fact have been taking for a while now and I love it. And I have just purchased a zipped wallet to help me budget my cash expenditure.

You keep it interesting . Appreciate what you share. Would love to live in a tiny house like yours, it does not seem tiny and my cat would love that loft area!

Thank you so much for this video. I find myself in very similar circumstances as you are facing. I am new to cold weather climate, new area, new home - lots of things to learn and overcome. Looking forward to gaining more confidence along with you on those life hurdles this year. You take care of you.

I like this video. As a 67 year old single woman, I need to start using cash again. This new chapter of life, needs me to be intentional. I am on social security and working part-time. Great video.

Love your cash system but I have a fantastic rewards credit card. With those rewards, I can get a lot of my household items (toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc.) for free plus it builds my credit history. And, I often buy from Amazon because they often have the lowest per unit costs for so many items.

Sounds like you have a system that works for you 😊.

Looking forward to your expanded content Adelina! I’d love to see you talk about your ease (and how you acquired it!) with living alone in a rural setting with no family (friends?) nearby. I think there are some of us who might enjoy your lifestyle but are fearful of the “what if’s”. A worrier by nature, I’d be wondering..what if my car breaks down and I need a lift to the repair shop? A ride to the doctor/hospital if I become ill? I enjoy your channel and while I’ve always been quite independent (in a big city setting!), I see you as brave in the way to you live your life-and I admire that! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Happy New Year, Adelina! I like your idea of a wallet with tabs. So much simpler than the cash stuffing envelopes that people show.
@myBIGtinyhouselife10 ай бұрын
I started with the envelopes way way back but then came up with the tabs because it's just faster at checkout and more visual. 😁

Excellent Excellent Excellent!! I can’t wait for this coming year’s videos!!! All that you’ve mentioned is also what I’m currently interested in and skills I want to grow within myself! My husband and I live in a 5th wheel, which is also a “tiny home”. Also, though we are not vegan, I have made a number of your wonderful, delicious recipes!! Thank you, Adalina, for ALL your videos!💕😊

I have been following your channel for several years. Our lives are very different but I always find something of interest in your videos. I really admire your lifestyle and the decisions you make. I was very independent when I was young. I bought a house as a single woman and could not get a conventional loan because I was a woman. I had to go to the government and get a minority loan. Getting a telephone and utilities in my own name was a challenge. Fortunately my father gave me good advice on establishing credit but I never had him sign anything for me which was what businesses wanted. I am obviously right much older than you. I have recently made a major life change. I am looking forward to your upcoming videos. Please include more on budgeting. I use a similar cash system but would love to hear more about yours. See you next week.

I am several years older than you are & retired but I can always learn new ways. I also try to run most of my every day life in cash. I most often pay cash for groceries,household items, cat food, gas & meals out. My budget for those items is like you $300 a week. Hope you have a great week. ♥️🐈💐

Wow, we both got divorced 20 yrs ago..never remarried either. I’ve become an introvert so I’m not as ‘disappointed’ any more about being alone..I was early on though. I raised my 2 kids alone too. We’re a couple of tough nuggets, girl!

Good morning Adelina, thanks for sharing your cash budgeting. That was an "aha" moment for me. I'm looking forward to learning with you in 2024! Oh, by the way, thank you for sharing your split pea soup recipe. I've made three different batches since I saw your video, it is so good. Calgary's weather is breaking tonight. 🤞 Take care
