Hi Lauren. It's taken a good month to get over. But even this morning I thought about my G unit as I came downstairs for breakfast...but it wasn't a painful memory that would have caused me to burst out crying like in the month after his death. Rather it was a warm internal acknowledgement that we'd had a great time together.

People who don't have pets will never get what it's like for a pet to die. We had our dog for nearly 20 years. My very first memory in life, was when , as a toddler, we went to get him. He died when I was in my 20's. He was about all through my school days, first girlfriend, first pint, first job. That was a hard one to swallow. Rip George.

My old boy died at the age of 21. His last day was sunny after a week of dull rainy he struggled and stumbled to his favourite sunny patch and stayed there till the sun was gone. I carried back to his bed at the end of the day and laid him down and gave him lost of strokes and he meowed and meowed, I left the room and when I came back in 10 minutes later he was gone. I cried and laid my face on him trying to hear a heart beat, gave him a few more strokes and thanked him for being my cat.

Best video I have seen so far on trying to deal with the loss of your cat. My big boy of 15 years died a couple days ago and I have found it very, very hard to cope. I see him everywhere inside and outside our house - but he is not there. We buried him in our backyard, and I go to his gravesite often, I cry often, I loved him so much it is beyond measure. Life without him feels so empty. I look at photos of him, including one I just took a few days before he died, and I cry some more. I am not a crier - but i have been bawling like a baby and i have an indescribably deep hurt inside the pit of my stomach that will just not go away. This video did help and was beautiful. You obviously had a very, very special cat like I did. Thank you so much for posting this. Thank you to our beautiful cats too who while bringing much pain upon their passing, brought immeasurable joy and love during their time with us. Rest in piece my buddy, Ernie, I love you more than you could ever know -- I hope wherever you are now you do know.

I told her everything I knew to say, and to let her go without worry over me. She’s with all the others who went before her, everyone younger than she was. Thank you for sharing your story. 🌈🐈😿😭❤️🙏💜

my first and oldest cat died two weeks ago. He was 9 years old when he died. He had gotten out of the house for about 2 weeks. When he finally came back he was in rough shape. He mostly sleep for the first month. Around week 5 he started to be his old self again. I was happy thinking he is going to be okay. Then towards the end of week 6 he vomited a few times and died suddenly. I had gone out to run an errand and when i came back i found him laid out in my dining room floor. He had died less than 1/2 and hour before that. I didn't bring him to vet because he was extremely afraid of people and being handled by them. I though the stress of going to vet was enough to kill him. He did have trouble most of his life with regurgitating food and had a poor appetite. I don't think seeing a vet would have made any difference or that is what I tell myself to reduce the guilt i feel. I hope that someday after i die that i can see him again. I really miss him and think about him everyday.

You apologised a few times throughout but I commend your composure telling this story. My 14-year-old just passed away this week and I'm gutted. She'd been getting worse for awhile now after she was diagnosed with cancer, last weekend she started losing strength in her feet and I pretty much had to carry her around and help her. Took her to the vet and after a few tests we decided to let her rest. A piece of me died on Monday, but I hope I'll be able to talk about it as collected as you did. Thank you for sharing.

After struggling for 4 months with fluid drainages and all sorts of pills that would just put him back in heart failure, his heart got full of clots. The hardest thing i had to do in my life was to decide to help him cross, and not wait for the clot to paralyse him or to kill him. When you announced that Big G had died, that night I lit a candle to help him on his way. Having lost many friends and family (which includes pets) in my life, I’ve always thought lighting a candle helps - it gives me the chance to stare at the flame and think of the good times. It also means every time I light a candle, I automatically think of one of them, which keeps their memory alive. Your eulogy was lovely - thank you for sharing this with us. Take care.

Hi James, I'm so sorry to hear you lost George. Cats get into your heart don't they. I only know you from watching your videos, but the fact that you're a lovely guy shines through. I'm sure George knew how much he was loved. I'm down to my last cat now and he's ancient for his breed, so we know that train is coming down the line. It's a couple of stations away at the moment. For the time being he's doing well, and that's all we can wish for. The day I had to have my first cat, a ginger boy, put to sleep, part of me died with him. Then two years ago I lost my second cat and then last year her daughter died. No matter how long they live, it's never enough. They are truly magnificent creatures and they teach us so much about unconditional love and how to live in the moment. Big hug from Cornwall.

I lost my 14 year old companion 8 months ago. She had such unconditional love, and could read me so well as was my care companion while going through some horrible challenges. She was 14 and so full of life and then she wasn’t and had to have her put to sleep. The memory of that feels so traumatic even though it was peaceful .I loved, love her so much, I can’t believe she’s gone and feel I’ll never get over losing such a best friend who was devoted to me, the friendship much more full of depth than most human friendships. I had her cremated the same but cannot spread her ashes yet, I hold them and long for her on my knee comforting me while I stroke her and her purr so calming. She sought me out constantly, finding me. I hope she knows how much I love, miss snd needed her🥲🥲❤️❤️

Blimey James, that was heart rending. I'm not a cat lover, more a dog person but that pulled my heart strings like an archer! My Mum had an old mongrel terrier which we inherited when she died at age 93. He was 16. A bit deaf, eyesight not to good ( like me now at 65!) Probably not the best 3 years of his life but he plodded on until 19 and the time came when his quality of life was non-existent, totally blind, deaf and incontinent. What do you do? I think I knew but just couldn't do it. Anyway my brother came to the rescue and took him to be euthenised. I felt really awful but just couldn't bear to see him thew way that he was. On a positive note, he gave my Mum a great deal of pleasure in her last 16 years of life. And I still have a picture of him on my desk to this day! My kids have various cats and dogs so we now enjoy those very much! Plus we have grand children so life in old age is good!

My cat Miguel had died at 6 months 3/6/24 was the date, he had been ran over by a car and unfortunately didn’t make it. This has really affected my life as he was there for me everyday. I have also lost 3 other kittens due to their mothers abandoning them. Before this we had lost 2 dogs due to old age. I wish the best of anyone that had to go through anything like this.

Just seeing this with tears streaming. I hope you have some peace now that it's been 2 years? This must have been so hard to make but least now you have memoralised. your little minx. I don't know what i'm going to do when i lose my little one. I just pray she goes before me cause she's my little shadow. I know she'd be lost without me. This is why it took me 40 years to have a pet! I love her more than any human. This is going to kill me x

It was horrible. I didn't think it would be that bad. My 12 year old cat died from heart failure. No more pets for me I can't go through that again

That was difficult to watch mate….. I could feel my self holding back the tears watching that…. You were lucky to have a cat like him full of character but on the same token he was lucky to have you and Emily and your entire family including KZbin family that also loved him so dearly 🐈

I feel for you both so much you got me going too. They are the rock that's there for you no matter where you've been, if no one else will talk to you. I'm so sorry for your loss. 28th May 2020 I had to put down my best bud of nearly 20yrs my Maine coone cat. Sounds mental but Ive never had a sick day at work in 3 years but I took a few days off toward/the end of his life. Horrible that due to Covid I wasn't allowed to be there for the injection but the vet having known him so long snuck him out the back door to be with me. I'll never forget before I took him down, he sat neatly and looked at himself in our full length mirror. I swear he knew exactly that it was time and he was taking his first and last self aware look at himself with pride after nearly 20yrs on this planet by my side. I can't describe it , it has hurt much more than losing some family members. You'd given George such a happy and perfect life and it's clear he gave the same to you. Thank you for sharing him with us. All the best , J.

I think it hurts more because you wtith them all the time. Especially since the lockdowns and everything. I used to look at G beached out in the garden blissfully unaware of the total madness going on around us.....

I had to say goodbye to both my dogs, first my boy in 2022, the second, my girl, died in 2023. When my boy died, it knocked the stuffing out of my girl. My heart is still broken.

I still have Big G merch on my fridge! You did well getting through that tribute - I know how much he meant to you both. It's desperately sad when they leave us. I sobbed for weeks when I had to have my Lily (aka Booboo or Fury Wife) put to sleep. I had her for 16 years.

My dear Cat Benjie was put to sleep 5 weeks ago due to cancer. I cannot believe he’s gone! It’s going to take awhile. He was 10 years and 3 months old. I know how you feel. I still cry for not seeing him. I had him created and he’s now in my bedroom. Hope my pain goes away soon. Best wishes David.

Hi i am absolutely dreading the day that we have to say goodbye to our little dog. She has been a great companion to me but at the age of 12 i feel her Golden Years have passed her by. She can be a pain at times but our pain a lovely pain. Great story telling James its not easy im sure. Just also wanted to share with you in case i am the only who who saw this, at 12:40 in the video if you look towards James and as you look look over his right shoulder what looks like a baby squirrel runs down the fence ! Maybe a sign who knows. I have given my little dog a couple of extra treats today and thought well 2 wont hurt!😉
