MY CHAIN ADJUSTER BOLT IS STUCK IN MY SWINGARM!! (How to Remove)

While trying to adjust my chain tension I encountered a problem, my swing arm bolt was seized completely. While trying to free it up I ended up welding a socket to the head and snapping it. This caused me to have to drill it out and insert a heli-coil. This was recorded over two weekends and was very frustrating to say the least.

You are twisting the bolt against the axle blocks. Take the wheel off and attack it from the end with a socket and an impact gun. Also raise the swingarm so the pen oil follows gravity and runs down into the hole. Invest in a wobble bar too. You don't need threadlock the bolts ... that's why there is a lock nut.

My bolt seized up. Had my local shop drill it out and put a new one for $120. Now i normally pull it out a grease it up to protect it. Great video btw!

Aluminium and steel don't mix, always use grease or loctite or something to create a boundary layer.

Same problem just I drilled a tiny hole into the swing arm itself and sprayed lubricant through the hole onto the bolt and I was lucky enough to get it out like that

How did you know where the bolt was and if the bit to the hole was going to hit the boat or not?

worked for me with lots of different siezed bolts,good for rounded bolts to,the weld wouldn't ever hold strong enough trying to weld another nut to it. thanks Steezer.

Decent video just so u know and every one else watching NEVER USE LOCKTITE on your swing arm tension bolts the only thing u r suppose to use is antiseize. Thats probably why they didnt come out in the first place and since u locktited them u will have to do this again. In closing i have never had my chain tensioners come loose

Got this same problem. was going to break it at the end and drill it, then tap. But first ima try to Dremel a slot for a big flathead and see how that goes. if not, NAPA store it is. thanks for the vid.

Same problem on my bike, but it snapped off so I bought a new swing arm😂 you should check these bolts regularly

İ have same problem on kx450 i want to drill it out but adjuster is looking a bit inside and i dont know how will i drill staight because there is not a good gap for drill fit there did you need a longer drill for that or can i do with any drill?

Why did you try to use pliers at first? I just had this problem. After a night and four applications of penetrator and heat mine came out.

far easier if you had welded a bigger nut over the existing bolt head,could of welded it right away around,and the heat would travel along bolt breaking the hold it had.

Doesnt work. I tried that, the heat in fact probably weakened the bolt at the entrance. I tried it and it broke still right at the entrance point of the swing arm with adequate heat on the entire thing.

I searched youtube for suggestions because I had the same issue with my WR400F and came across this vid. Thanks @Steeezed but looks like you had a rough time and had to use every trick in the book. I removed the rear wheel, loaded the bolts up with WD40 and after a some soaking time hit them with an impact gun with 10mm socket. Both bolts came out with no damage and it took 10 seconds...
