@@justinurbealis6234 I agree with you on Currents, but The Slow Rush still doesn’t do it for me despite loving a few tracks. But I feel the same about Sleigh Bells’ “Treats”. That album still bangs to this day and definitely didn’t deserve the 2 he gave it. Also that album predicted the 100 gecs/Dorian Electra strain of hyperpop half a decade before Sophie and PC Music pretty much launched the genre, and I know Fantano loves those artists. I’m pretty sure he said he might revisit it given the context.

I love Blonde but CO is the project I revisit the most. Lot of memories tied up with this one. I love the impressionistic lyrics, the rawness of the vocals and something that doesn’t get mentioned enough is Malay’s production. There’s a beautiful balance of acoustic and synthetic elements. It’s recorded and mixed just well enough to not be Lo-fi but it’s not overproduced either. The vocals in particular are often super dry and really give space for Frank to just sing his heart out and tell stories. The structures are atypical and given where Frank was at in the industry he could’ve really tried doing something more commercial but instead he decided to drop this series on vignettes on us and just make a classic basically. I could go on and on I love this damn project man haha

I truly believe ‘Pyramids’ is one of the Greatest Songs of the Century. It’s the ‘Stairway To Heaven’ of the modern generation. Just the mere fact that he was even willing to make the song-is unbelievable. How many ‘Popular’ Artists would think of making a 10-minute, multi-part, allegorical Odyssey-that morphs Ancient Egyptian Mythology-into a modern day Tragedy about a woman and her pimp… ? Frank Ocean is a goddamn superhero. It’s a shame to see how many people on here-are criticizing the song. Then again, that’s the way it is with virtually all of the Greatest Art.

I do prefer Blonde, but it's honestly a lot closer than you'd think. I think CO excelled in showing Frank's range as a songwriter. Every song feels like a totally different avenue, either musically or through a unique vibe or interesting perspective. Its a very consistently great album with a lot of pop and crossover appeal but it still has a fair amount of depth, Pyramids being the obvious standout, but there's a lot going on with songs like Pink Matter too. I always had a fondness for Crack Rock and Pilot Jones, but I could see almost any song being someone's favorite. I think CO showed how talented of a songwriter Frank is, and having such a huge range made Blonde deciding to go so much deeper and more personal hit even better.

@@al-ameenkudehinbu8067 my favorites are Ivy (a perfect, simple tune about falling in love and trying to hold on to it as the feeling eventually fades), Siegfried (incredibly sad song), Self Control is just a good R&B song, Nights is basically Blonde's version of Pyramids (though admittedly doesnt hit quite as high, but that's a super high bar to meet), Pink + White is just a beautiful sounding song (definitely one of the best), Andre 3000 absolutely destroys on Solo (Reprise) and Solo itself is pretty good. White Ferrari is another absolute classic Frank song. Pretty Sweet has grown on me a lot over the years but it's probably not the best starting spot, but it's a cool ride. I think Blonde works better as a full album though, tbh. When it first dropped, it took me like 2 listens for it to actually click, but now it's impossible to ignore how great it is. That's part of why I think CO is so good, because you really can listen to any song at any time and they're all great individually. Blonde has more flow to it and is better as a whole piece I think.

This is a great video. It shows how much our minds can change. It's amazing to realize how much you in the past overlooked or just didn't see. (General you) . To me it is one of the greatest lessons to learn in life and leads to empathy and greater respect for others' perspectives that you very well may just not yet understand. Also it shows to certain people who maybe thought otherwise that your reviews are meant to be subjective and are not meant to pass any sort of final judgment. It shows that you (being human) have surely changed your mind on plenty of records. Everyone's taste in music is a result of their own unique point of view which is a result of their own unqiue experiences that they don't share with anyone else. Your reviews are not meant to say what the album should mean to anyone else, and I think a lot of people in your audience don't get that. If some of your copycatiest fans realized that it's inevitable and sensible that their opinion will differ, sometimes wildly, from yours then the idea that your mind changes over time would come very naturally to them, because they would be enabling themselves to allow andor recognize the same thing in their own lives.

I loved Channel Orange so much when it came out and lived with it throughout the start of a new relationship, but I just don’t feel like it has the same lasting power as Blonde. I rarely go back to Channel Orange to listen to because I feel like I got everything I could get from it already, but Blonde can always make me feel something in a variety of contexts

I think it's stupid to rate singing ability purely based on technical ability. Frank may not have the range or vocal flexibility of the Weeknd or Chris Brown for super showoff vocal runs - corny bullshit - but he has a tonality, phrasing and emotive quality that easily makes him the best R&B vocalist of this generation. I bet almost ever Frank fan fell for his voice first...

@@yusifvaliyev9748 People who enjoy music with deeper themes and messages than "LOOK HOW TALENTED I AM" will forever see the latter kind of music as inherently corny because they just want music that actually makes them feel something, rather than something designed to impress or wow. @@verbatim7508 That is an entirely different convo. The guy above said that Frans is easily “the best vocalist of this generation” even though he can’t do half of what The Weeknd and Chris Brown can do. But no if you want to talk about songwriting that is a different topic. Call him the best R&B songwriter, not the best R&B vocalist (even though The Weeknd is still more interesting lyrically than Frank)
