You should be very proud of your project. I’ve always wanted a pontoon boat to go out here in the upper Chesapeake bay to do some rock fishing and July 4th fireworks over the water. A pontoon, or any boat was just out of our budget. Now our only daughter is graduating and heading off to the US Air Force. Seeing your video, I feel that I should have done more to make a more memorable childhood for her. We do have a small 19ft camper. We bought it years ago when my wife and I were married just a few years. It’s lasted us to this day 18 years later with a few roof patches and a floor replaced in the bathroom. I wish they made them to last longer. If we ever have the money to buy another newer one you can bet I’ll build a lean-to against my shed to keep it out of the weather from rotting it . Enjoy your time with your little girls. They will be grown before you know it👍🏻😊
@chud3274 жыл бұрын
Well said and yes they grow so fast. thanks for watching.
@darrelljacobjr21204 жыл бұрын
Look on KZbin, there are plenty of videos showing how to build your own camper from scratch. You are right when you say they only build them to last a certain time, you'd be appalled if you tore one apart and realized just how cheaply they are made, both to cut production costs and also to prevent them from lasting too long. If you build it yourself, not only can you do it on the cheap, You are the quality-control department.
@micah-hooka72754 жыл бұрын
Darrell Jacob JR , I could buy a utility trailer which is made of mostly aluminum and use my current camper’s inverter, toilet, shower and tanks. I just don’t have the time. My garage only holds two vehicles. My pickup hardly fits in the bay. So the key is keeping them dry and the roof covered and dry pavement or concrete to store them. Like I said, I’ll build a simple lean-to against my small barn and spread hot mix and roll it. If it still takes of too much rain, I’ll run corrugated walls half way down on the rear and sides. That should give it an extra 10-15 years of life. Plus all the newer ones are made of aluminum studs and the one I want has a one piece curved fiberglass roof. Those rubber roofs that’s on mine and most last wooden framed campers are genuine throw-aways once they start to sponge up in the particle board flooring. If I was rich, I’d buy my wife a small 20ft airstream and never worry about major maintenance again. I have a rheumatic muscle skeletal disease that has made my hands and knees pretty much useless for work. Or at least the way I used to love to put in a daylight to dark day of work. Now it hurts just to mow and keep my little place looking presentable. I’m 42 and I see my buddies who keep getting it like they are still 22. Well, enough self pity talk. I’m glad you are smart enough to know about the budget RV camper trailer industry. It’s not really fair to folks who think they’ll have their hotel on wheels for a lifetime. Just like the pickup trucks. I have one that isn’t new but isn’t an antique either and I’ve had to hide rust spots for years now. A new truck costs $50,000. And rusts before it’s paid for. It’s sad. I wash all the salt off my truck after every snowstorm. Nothing helps. That road salt and thin, untreated inner fenders and panels are the cause. The big 3 pickup makers are laughing all the way to the bank at hard working men. Thanks for the chat👍🏻

Now you need a 3-axis gimbal and a Nikon Coolpix P900 (maybe used off eBay) so you can Really zoom in on other boats and scenery. Not a boat/water guy myself, although i design/build underwater ROV's...could you put 2 sideshaft engines up front, with a universal joint then a long driveshaft leading back/downwards at a slant to the props at the rear? More like one of those skinny boats you see in the tropics, but with the engines mounted solid. I'm worried that the unlubricated gears in the lower units of your rebuilt boat motors will frag after time. Use rudders behind the props for steering. Put the engines in engine compartments sunk into the deck, with the exhaust fed into car mufflers to quiet them down. Just ideas to ponder. Great work!

What would be cool is to go out in the middle of the lake and anchor and spend the night on the water. What would really be cool is to build a pontoon houseboat with the ability to have a restroom and a lower area to sit under the water with a total glass-bottom below the main deck.? There would be an enclosed cabin and an upper deck. There would be the lower underwater observatory, main deck with the front part with an enclosed cabin with a steering wheel with a full bathroom and stove sink and beds. Above this would be an upper deck. It would be nice to see something like this so you could go out and spend a few days but finding a way to build it cheaply and not too big?

Trying not to be negative but I would have been more serious about making it lighter and more durable.wood is expensive and heavy easy to assemble.iI Wonder if you could have put some type of plastic sheeting around the barrels to make them smooth and put a bigger engine on it.just for effects of better fuel economy. Those barrels are big enough to make one into a live well and cut one for storage

I hope you have the air filters on the engine's. I saw footage of the engine's without. I shouldn't have to remind you that over time you will ruin the engine's if the filters are not on during long running time's. Also rain will get into the fuel and engine and shut you down. Do you have the required fire extinguisher and all other Coast Guard required safety items on board ? You probably will be stopped for a safety check one day. I love the build and the way you made the engine's too. I live in NW Florida myself but have no boat. I sold my party barge years ago. Why did you pressurize the barrels? How did you do that ?
@chud3274 жыл бұрын
If the barrels aren't pressurized they will collapse when I go in the cold springs. Air filters are not a real big deal on the water, there isn't much dust out there. I do need to cover it in the rain, but haven't been the last few years, some day I may regret that... I am not required to have a fire extinguisher, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. I have all the other required equipment. Thanks for watching.

They are on board, you don't have to wear them unless you are under 6 years old. We are all twice that age or more. Thanks so much for watching.

NO BANANAS ON THE BOAT!!! If (like me) you think it's ridiculous, it's still an obligatory nod to tradition. Also, while not statistically relevant, the couple of times I've been out when someone brought a banana on board, exactly zero fish were caught, which admittedly often happens without bananas as well. Adhering to the tradition will definitely protect you from the ire of those who do believe...
