Guitar cover of "Thank You For the Venom" from the album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. My first full guitar cover after doing bass covers for 8 years! Back when I was 12 years old I remember always wanting to learn this guitar solo. Not happy to say it took me until now to learn the solo, but I think if I applied myself 5 years ago I could have done it. I'm just going to blame it on bass being a good distraction ahha. Besides the solo it was quite a fun challenge learning both the rhythm and lead parts of this song, especially the chorus since it's not just straight up power chords. Enjoy the cover!

reason for not alternate picking the intro? I can't alternate pick this fast, but I also can't downpick this fast yet, so I don't know how should I approach practicing this 😆

Down picking is a much stronger & consistent stroke, especially when it comes to palm muting. Try palm muting power chords slowly with alternate picking VS down picking and you will hear a big difference in consistency. There's a place for both alternate & downpicking depending on the song, but for this intro I would say down picking is the way to go. However if you're just trying to play this riff I would start with alternate picking and once you have the riff down you can try to down pick the entire thing. Hope this helps!

Doubt you'll see this, but how the heck are you reaching from 2 on the A string to 7 on the G in the chorus? lol I've got a decent hand size and span, but I just can't get my hand to stretch that far comfortably and consistently. Thinking about just playing the high note in that chord on the B string instead, but then I'd have to make sure to mute the G, so idk. Any tips??? (Edit: right after, I realized I can just play 024420 instead and it'll sound good enough. Still tho, if you have any hand positioning tips for your way, I'd appreciate em! Thanks)

Hey Rudy! Lol I guess having long fingers helps for those chord shapes. If your fingers aren't long enough, then I would say just mute the G and play those notes on the B string. The other option is to just play that entire chord shape starting on the E string starting at the 7th fret instead of the A string at the 2nd fret so it isn't as much of a stretch. Hope this helps!

Hmm I don't exactly remember but I believe the tone was like 40% up and gain was 60% up. I stack the Blues Driver with the Green Rhino so I don't need to max out the gain for it..
