I am a doctor from Srinagar Kashmir. I am an animal lover. I have watched almost all the islamic videos about dogs available on KZbin. I found all of them confusing and without any thorough Islamic research. But I found this video most well researched, giving all details available in Quran and hadith about dogs. I am highly thankful to Jenab Dr Yasir for this well researched and scholarly talk about dogs. This video has removed all my doubts. Same is the view of Jenab Gamdhi sahib.

I rescued a dog that was abandoned by my neighbour when they moved out. At first i put it outside but passerby starts throwing stones and bottles. It breaks my heart to see that. One day as i reached home and was about to step out from my car not realizing theres a cobra near the gate..out of sudden the dog jump on it and save my life..since then since im staying alone and old age i decided to keep the dog to protect me from snakes and twice from burgalary.

Subhanallah! This is the reason why Islam is the most natural way of life. Islam doesn’t forbid dogs from even Mosques because they are just another "Ummah" and part of our broader society. Islam asks us to be rational in our decisions. Ask and be clear about why you are doing something you are doing. Just don't do things because you like to do it. That's the universal ruling you can apply on most matters.

I've just recently acquired a dog, which I did not intend. He is 11 years old and was given up because of his age and they didn't want him anymore. You don't just give dogs up after having them years as it can traumatise them. You become a part of his pack. Anyway, I fully intended to pass the little dog I rescued to a charity, but he stole my heart and he actually brought great benefit to me as I live on my own. We go out for lots of walks, which has been good for me. My bedroom is my clean space that is forbidden to him as it is where I pray. I change my clothes when I pray as well. I wouldn't purposely go out and buy a dog. This little guy was free, but we have both turned our lives around because we benefit one another. If Allah swt wills it he will stay with me till his last breath and I will be at his side when it happens and in that I hope for Allah's reward.

Dear sister I own a big dog who was brought in by my son who was emotionally distressed and a teenager. We did try to pass him on but got warnings from random people saying that this kind of dog is used as bait in dog fight. We began to love the dog. My son passed away year ago and I cannot part with his beloved dog. He loved animals.. so if allah wishes he will stay with me for the rest of his life and inshallah allah will not diminish my rewards. My very first job at 16 was in dog shelter and I learned a lot about these beautiful creatures. Assalaam o Alaikum wa Rahmatullahe wa Barakatuhu to you my dear Brother Yassir and to your readers and viewers. Bissmillahe Rahmaan Nir Raheem. I am very much impressed with your lecture Br. Yassir on this very sensitive topic of Dogs. I commend you for bringing the Islamic injunctions concerning many topics that the average Muslim or person is very much unaware of. May ALLAH swt continue to bless you and your family with Steadfastness upon the Deen of ALLAH swt........Ameeeeeen. I am about to Critique your presentation with the intention to bring awareness to knowledge that you already know but may have not considered or may not know. The Ummah needs unity more than ever now that in its history. Dajjaal is attacking Ghuzzah ferociously and the word or tge concept of Dajjaal or Yajuj wa Majuj are Silent on the lips of the Scholars, except Imran Hosein. Remember we are to hold on to the Rope of ALLAH swt and NOT be DIVIDED............as the shaytaan wants us to be.........an audhubillah. Yassir!!!! The Islamic Shariah is NEVER SILENT on any matter in this world. You or another Islamic Scholar may be ignorant of the knowledge concerning a certain Topic, but ALLAH swt and Rasoolullah saws are NEVER Silent or are there are any GREY areas concerning anythjng in the life we lived in the Past or Living now or to Live in the future. Why do I make this Proclamation!!!! There are only 2 Deen operating in this World. 1. The Deen of ALLAH swt which is Islam. 2. Every single thing other than Islam is from the shaytaan or in his Deen.......remember shaytaan is God in disguise and ALLAH swt is NOT God......and tge deities the Kuffaars worship. Yassir!!! Rasoolullah saws prevented the Muslims that ate Garlic to pray in Jamaat because its sent is offensive to the Angels. Angels belong to Bil Ghayb = The Unseen World, just like Vampires as depicted in Hollywood Horror movies cannot enter into a home with Garlic hung on its widows or doors. So Yassir, to say that that Jibreel a.s. cannot come into the home only of Rasoolullah saws because of a dog in the house, and tge Recording Angels belonging to us Kiraman and Katibeen can be in our homes with a dog being present is a contradiction. Rasoolullah saws wants for the angels to visit the homes of tge Muslims, be in Laila Tul Qadr or not......so no dogs inside of the house of a Muslim. Kiraman and Katibeen are our Recording angels on our shoulders......so they are with us regardless of a dog present or not, but the Angels of Mercy or who witness or Salaah are prevented from entering into homes because of a dog being present in the house. Rasoolullah saws is Rahmatulilah Alameen = sent by ALLAH swt as a Mercy to all of the Worlds. So yes, when we show kindness to animals and dogs we are exercise a fraction of the Mercy that ALLAH dwt has given to us. Dogs are not supposed to be inside the home of a Muslim. Outside of the house s a watch or Guard dog, yes this is ok. Concerning pictures. Angels do not enter into homes where the eyes of the animated creations of ALLAH swt are present. Just like the Dajjaal 1 eye image is Repulsive to us Muslims, so too, to the angels. Rasoolullah saws said concerning the Black dog is shaytaan. This is why in movies which are from the Deen of the Shaytaan the Black Dog is Glorified. Check out the movies of Black Doberman Pincher dogs. Check out the Music video for the song 'Frozen' by Madonna. Check out the Music video by Michael Jackson's song 'Black and White'......he uses a Black Panther and shape shifts like a Jinn to and from the Panther. So my dear Yassir, my beloved brother, you were schooled from the Universities of Makkah or Medina which will NOT teach you correctly, because they too were given permission to operate from the 1st Headquarters of Dajjaal which is England........so The blessed descendent of Rasoolullah saws, Imam Al Mahdi is coming to destroy them. NEVER, EVER again utter those words that our Shariah is Silent on a particular Matter. ALLAH has Perfected and Completed this Deen of Islam. Its PERFECT, and addresses every single issue we have. And only ALLAH swt knows Best. Ameeeeeeeeeeen.

Great talk mashAllah. I would like to propose to our beloved scholars a couple of additional factors to consider in todays modern society. I am a dog trainer and animal behaviorist student and in the animal behavior world there is actually a lot of discussion around the well being of dogs themselves, and whether being pets are in their best interests. A lot of behavior problems arise because pet owners do not understand or meet the needs of their canine companions. So first and foremost, anyone who takes a dog as a pet, should study and learn the proper care- both physical and mental, of their breed. so based on this lecture, it made me think that it is also important that we really consider the welfare of the dog when we discuss “haja”. because you see, in the old days dogs could roam the town or village freely, and scavenge for food. This led to mentally stable dogs. however nowadays our cities are not conducive for dogs to live in this manner. Especially in the United States and Europe. Therefore, the survival of dogs is symbiotic with that of humans. And one could therefore make an argument that it is necessary for the protection of dogs to keep them in our household, even if they serve no obvious function. secondly, in this day and age children spend way too much time on social media and suffer lots of anxiety and mental issues. Many studies have shown that caring for an animal teaches children empathy and responsibility. I would argue that this is on the level of “haja” So if Muslim children want a pet dog then it should be conditioned on them agreeing to take responsibility and learning animal behavior and working to care for their pets. A pet dog is a great learning experience for a child.

One thing I have never heard a Muslim mention, is that dogs are really not happy unless they have a job to do. A dog who is simply pampered all day will be bored and miserable. The restriction that Muslims should only have dogs who perform a duty is actually in the best interest of the dog because it is in keeping with their nature.

No, it absolutely doesn't make sense to prohibit having dogs unless they have a purpose like protecting the house, hunting etc. Many people in the West, even inbthe Middle East own dogs without them being used as hunting, protecting house, guide dog for blind etc.

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If you hear the barking of a dog or the braying of a donkey, then seek refuge with Allah, for they see that which you do not see.” [Sunan Abi Dawood] A hadith in Bukhari states specifically that what the dogs and donkeys see are the devils among the jinn.

How is the reference to dogs in Surah Al Kahf neutral ? It says in this surah that there were four men who were companions, and if the dog lieing outside guarding the cave was counted, there were 5. That is not neutral. It gives the status of a dog to another companion. The dog in this story is counted as a human. It's a beautiful addition to the factual narration. Beautiful.

I am a recent dog owner and a practising Muslim. I avoided keeping a dog for many years due to the cultural indoctrination about dog saliva being impure so much so that if a dog even touched me slightly, I would change my clothes before praying. I decided to keep a dog recently for the sake of my children. I have to say, it was a great decision and I have no regrets. Not only has does our puppy bring us immense joy and overwhelming love, but looking after him has taught my children, responsibility, empathy and discipline. However, before I took the step to own a dog, I listened to various scholars on the subject and deduced that it was not logical to be allowed to own and train a dog and not expect to come in touch with its saliva. Consider, for instance, owning a therapy dog such as in the case of a person who is blind, would they be expected to change and wash their clothes 5 times a day because their dog licked them? A dog will lick to show affection, I don't think a non-licking dog exists :). Anyway, the point being, cultural taboos aside, Islam is a religion of practicality and logic. I cannot imagine that Allah would create the most adorable and loving of animals and then ask us to shun them.
@unicornowner99932 жыл бұрын
"I cannot imagine that Allah would create the most adorable and loving of animals and then ask us to shun them." This is the exact argument homosexuals use. "Why would Allah create me to love men so deeply then expect me to shun their sexual advancements?" I'm sorry to say but it seems like you went fatwah shopping to find an answer that was in line with your desires. Whatever Allah and His messenger tells us to do, we listen and we obey. Using your own logic, what's stopping you from eating swine? "I cannot imagine that Allah would create the most delicious and nutrious animal and then ask us to shun them". Also, Allah doesn't ask you to shun animals, he tells you to not bring them into your home for hygiene reasons and also dogs are known to kill young children. Just Google it. 1) Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (saws) said, “He who keeps a dog, will lose out of his good deeds equal to one Qirat (mountain) every day, except one who keeps it for guarding the fields or the herd.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. 2) In a another narration of Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (saws) is reported to have said: “He who keeps a dog for any reason other than to guard his property (lands) or his flock of sheep, his good deeds equal to two Qirat will be deducted every day.” 3) the angels do not enter “a house in which there is a statue, or a dog, or a portrait” The evidences against keeping dogs in the home are clear. It's ok to have them outside of the home and it's no problem if your children play with them. I can only advise you, what you do and what lessons you teach your children about going against Allah and His messenger is up to you, but I warn you, it sets a very dangerous precedent for when they get older and face the real temptations in life that Allah has forbade. May Allah guide us all to the straight path. I wish you well.

I’m not trying to start an argument, but things can coexist at the same time. We can make dua and give in charity to those in need, and still seek knowledge to make sure that we don’t stray in our everyday interactions. Some of us are converts who come into contact with dogs frequently when visiting family (my situation). Some people have a need for guard dogs, especially in the US where crime is increasing. Some have need for disabilities, and there needs to be more understanding within the community at large for those people. I appreciate the details that he went into, and found some use from it. (I don’t own a dog and have no sentimental attachment to dogs). I still appreciate his lecture.
